Hiya mate, it's an old school way but we used to set up carbs by listening through a piece of tube placed in the inlet of each carb making adjustments until they sounded the same .love the channel you've inspired me into getting my bandit back up and going keep up the great work bud .

Hi mate I tried adding a link but it obvs doesn't allow it but if you Google "synchronising carbs with a stethoscope" there's a triumph motorcycle group post explaining it, it's works just as well using a length of fuel line or similar to listen through, yes she's a 1997 1200 I've had for about 15 years, it was laid up for a while when I suffered a back injury, but with a refresh and clean up should be good to go .

The choke on the van mighth be like an old school auto choke that uses the heat of the coolant to disengage the chock in stages. As you said to "arm" the choke press the throttle down to engage it before starting then it wll come off in stages as the coolant warms up. Usually they adjustable for how long they stay on and engine revs while choke is on also. All the best Charlie. (PS - I'm going from memory on how the auto choke worked on my old Vauxhall Nova SR back in the day so maybe not 100%)

That sounds about right Steven. It's a complex looking carb aswell. I couldn't even work out how to get it of lol

You need to synchronise the carbs. This way you can set everything, idle speed, air mixture etc.

I was trying in this vid. I just couldn't get it right. It may need some air restriction. I'm rubbish with balancing individual carbs to each other

Generally, the slides can only be fitted the right way round, because they have a slot down one side, and there is a pip which locates in it to make sure it's in the right place. Are you sure it's firing on both? It sounded more like a single to me. Have you got service data with baseline settings for the carbs? Setting them up from scratch by trial and error can be tricky.

I tested both cylinders by pulling the separate spark plug and both sides were firing. Although I may check again on the weekend. It's driving me nuts. I've actually advertised it as a project now. Hopefully someone else can finish it

Handy thing venier calipers,the cb 200 sounds like its not getting enough fuel to me? Is it fresh fuel Charlie!🤔👍

Yes fresh fuel and direct feed from my mini tank into both carbs. Floats set and synced aswell. My only thought is that it needs some air restriction or bigger jetting to idle. I may try the pod filters again on the weekend.
