For me, hearing your beautiful CB400A start & run was like hearing a favorite song not heard for years. Sometime in the late 80's I was taking my Yamaha 750 Seca on a Saturday ride in rural Western Maine. Went past a farm and noticed a nice looking, blue motorcycle sitting out front of the barn with a "For Sale" sign hanging on it. I just had to check it out. It was pristine: chrome bright and shiny, paint unfaded, 3000 miles on the clock...just something unusual about the instrument cluster....why was there 3 square lights where the tach belonged? Skinny old fella came out of the nearby house, 'bout as "down-east" as they come. "That there's my daughter's bike. She went to Oregon to go to college, got married, has kids now and isn't coming back. Told me to get what I could for it." When he told me it was an "automatic", I was incredulous, I'd never heard of such a thing. He'd kept the battery charged and it started pretty easily. He allowed me to take it on the farm road going to the back of his property. It was love at first ride. I asked how much? "Four hundred and I wont take less...I hate dickering" I gave him $30 I had on me to hold it and drove back the next day in my van to pick it up. Reason I bought it was I had a girlfriend at the time who wanted to ride her own bike, not just sit behind me. Problem was, she had never driven a stick shift car. She was small and my bike was too heavy for her to learn on. I also didn't like that she would get so discombobulated trying to shift that she wasn't paying proper attention to the road...not good. The Hondamatic seemed the perfect solution and it was...almost.. She drove it OK but it was too tall for her. I discovered that Honda had replaced the CB-400A with the CM-400A, a much lower, "chopper" style, perfect for her short legs. I was able to find one in good shape for a fair price and she loved it. I liked the CB so much that I started riding that on our weekend rides. It was easy to put both into the back of my van and drive to the countryside without having to deal with highways. Hearing the (very loud) exhaust note of your blue beauty brought those days back to me. She and I went our separate ways but they were good times riding. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I did mine and watch out for that vibration at 60 mph.

I run the CB400T/A owners on FB and even though its been modified (dont like the bar end weights) its a nice bike and the CB400T was the first honda to have CDI Ignition and that loop on the seat that hangs down is a security feature that fits in the helmet lock to stop people stealing the seat, the CB400A was number 417 design for Honda and a very reliable bike which still rides well by modern standards

Wow that idle speed is high! It's a twin not a four cylinder, it shouldn't be idling nearly that high. Judging by the blued pipes it's also running lean.

I have a 1978 Honda hawk 400 6400 miles on it I actually got it for free. Overall it really is in mint condition cleaning out the carbs and going to fire it up. But I’m not Sure I want to do anything with it I have two other moter cycles.. I think I’m going to sell it where would be a good for them to sell it I would want to go to somebody that has interest in these bikes

Nice bike! Someone is selling one near me but I’m a beginner. You think it’s too powerful/ heavy for a new rider? I’ve heard that it’s a suitable bike to grow into but I’ve also heard that it’s too powerful. The main draw for me is that its an automatic; What do you think?
