My Review of the CB500x I broke it into two parts (too long otherwise).
First part is the first Kms and twisties!
Second part has a nice conclusion to the review, and some riding in-town.
Bike was a graciously loaned testdrive from linhaway (www.linhaway.pt). Wanna see me on a KTM RC390? Vote here!

I just bought a CB500 X. I work at a Honda shop and fell in love with it when I saw it on the showroom floor. I haven't ridden in a few years and what a great bike to get back into it on. Looking forward to a great summer doing some weekend tours of New England.

I very much enjoy your extra-long video reviews; the typical 3-5 minute posts are appreciated, but are just too short to get a sustained good impression of the bikes. I also like your running stream-of-consciousness narrative, versus a carefully crafted script, as it shows your actual enthusiasm and immediate, candid experiences of the bike, at hand. Thanks for taking the time and effort to makes your videos, well done.

Thanks for your review! You convinced me, I'm going to get this bike. I'm kind of new to the motorcycle world, I've ridden a moped for about 8 years now and I'd like to switch to a motorcycle, for commute and and weekend trips. It looks like the perfect machine. I've read that the only con of the CB500X is that the rear suspension is a bit too soft for a sporty riding. It's not a problem though, I'm a calm driver. Thank you again and keep making videos, I like them a lot!

Just wanted to send you a thank you for your excellent review :) Helped me make an informed decision in which I ultimately went with the 500 as opposed to a NC750. Mostly owing to size and weight. I had a Transalp back in the 90s and it was simply too big for me and the 500 is feeling just right...

Wow, loved part 2 also. I heard that these also have heated grips and that the windshield is adjustable. I'm glad you showed how easy it is to turn the bike around; I have never been able to do that w/ my bike but would like to. Excellent review!! Now, all I need to do is go test ride and try to convince my hb that I WANT ONE! lol! Thanks for doing this!!

I really enjoyed your review on the CB500X - and I can tell you have some credibility because you favorably compared it to your own bike instead of just defaulting to the "my bike is better" approach some reviewers get stuck on. I picked up my CB500X yesterday and I think it's a great bike - I'm not a brand new rider, but a newer one - and this was a great next bike for me (I started on a Rebel). This review helped me make up my mind between the NC700X, CB500X and a Shadow Phantom 750.

Really really nice vids Cager. Lovin' your overviews as a honda fan boi :P. I'm a starter biker and i've been riding a cb125e actively for about 6 months now. Considering to upgrade to a cb500x since i saw it... Like you mentioned i dont want to get a bike that is trying to kill me. :) (its a shame that we wont have 500 series in turkey until 2014, but i see that as an oppurtunity to get more experience on 2 wheels) Anyways i m running out of characters :D I loved the meme touch on the end :P

WOW the scenery is just breath taking. Portugal is such a beautifull country and you are very lucky guy to live in such paradise :) Awesome reviev, detailed, funny sometimes and you showed absolutely everything about the bike. I would prefer your NC700X than this though. Torque is what big boys like :) I am also thinking about buying a bike from this class and proce range and was not sure to choose cr500X or nc700x. Greetings from Poland from your new subscriber :)

Hey Cager, thanks for the informative post, However, I'm still confused on wether to get the nc700x or the 500x. I will be communiting 30 mi. 3 times a week to work but want the versatility to go for longer rides every now and then. Any further advice would be helpful, I also may be overthinking the decision. By the way I'm about 5'8" 170lbs, novice rider

I bought one last May, Nice enough bike going from 125 upgrades which should be on the bike already but accept its a cheap bike are Fender extender as Im uk its always wet. centre stand. Larger screen to keep the rain off. Heated grips ( does the NC have them as standard>?) Hugger. Will buy neoprene shock/fork seal covers a top box and some luggage. Oh and the naughty valve check at 600 miles should be in the price, new 2014 ones wont require it. I love your reviews, thanks! Roy

So how does the seat compare to the NC700? I did not get the NC700 yet because there is another one in red rather than black and with bags. But, a local guy also has one of these 500X's as well for good money. I test rode one and liked it. The wind screen was noisy for me at 5'10 inches tall, so a little taller than you.

it's when you see this review tht you get the idea of the evolution that the new nc750x was from the original nc700x. Because people don't see much of difference from the later compared with the new 750, but can compare the cb500x with the nc700x, but in reality the gap between the cb500x and the nc750x is so huge that you finally understand what was indeed changed for the 750x coming from the 700x. IMHO the greatest of difference was the better use of the gearbox ratios which make it much different to ride and manouver either in slow speeds and in 5th or 6th gear. The higher ratios are also compensated by slightly amount of increased power and torque.

nice reviews (of all 3 500's) - am thinking of getting one to step up from my little 250 and was very seriously looking at the X as I often do 50+km each way up the freeway to work, but I kinda like the F (looks fun) and the R (bit more racy) too. Choices!! Which was your favourite of the 3?

Cager, lots of people are looking to compare these two bikes. So this is a great and very needed review because it would seem that they compete very strongly with each other. Your review makes the point clear as I thought it might have, the NC is a better sport touring machine and the CB500x a better commuter. how does the CB500X handle the regular highway speeds (say 120 KMH)? Gracias por el reportaje.

I'm very interested in this bike to compliment my wonderful but huge FJR. Here in Texas we don't yet have the ABS version of this bike. Is there an ABS disable button on this bike? The only bad thing I've heard about the 500X is that the first required service is very expensive due to a labor intensive valve adjustment.

"Yeah, granted, mine can do this (overtake) easier, but not as fun, not as much fun. You don't get to hear it sing. And this one does sing. Even though the exhaust is very silent, very muffled, you can still feel the vibration." It's about resonance. That one quote could guide motorcycle development and marketing to make it more successful. Make the motorcycle engine resonate best in the range where the rider will use it.

Your funny! I like your enthusiasm but I don't know how long you've been riding or what bikes you have ridden? What country are you in or from & where are you video recording? I'm from America & am use to 750 & 1000 up motorcycles. I think you forget that your engine on your bike is lower making your center of gravity low so this make it handle different from a regular bike & will make it harder for you to spin it on the kickstand like you do. Good review on the CB 500X makes me want to buy one.

I'm curious if you've ridden a new WeeStrom. I was pretty set on one but admittedly am not happy with it's size, weight, fuel economy, etc for my commuting, occasional touring/camping needs. Then Honda had to go and release this, but there is nothing nearby to test ride. Any comparison other than the obvious size difference that stands out to you personally. I don't know that I'll like the further back foot position one bit. Other than that I think the 500 X is my next bike.

Wouldn't the Yamaha FZ-07 be a better option. They are the same price here in Canada. Further, Honda only offers this bike in white here. Yamaha offers the FZ-07 in three colours. Honda must hate Canada. Though, I think the CBR500 comes standard with ABS and the FZ-07 is a $500.00 option.
