I just did this job yesterday. The tools that are a must have: 90 degree needle nose pliers, 17 mm deep socket, 6" extension, good flashlight AND a universal joint. I could not have done this with out the universal joint. Getting the hose off the PCV valve was nearly impossible, tried prybar ($10 from Harbor Freight) and hose pliers ($14 from HF). Didn't work for me, either because I couldn't fit them in there of lack of leverage. I used the 90* needle nose gently to twist off the hose. I had to use a break bar to get the the valve off. I would say it took me an honest 30-45 minutes going back and forth to my tools. My local dealer said they don't replace these parts on newer cars and pretty much laughed at me. Then said it would be about $165 + tax. NO THANKS! $50 for tools and $25 for OEM Honda part online and I was done. And I have some tools that I can use another time. Bending the bracket was a little intimating, didn't want to break it. I bent it back maybe 2 mm, just enough to get my socket in there. I didn't even bother bending to original state once I was done with the job. The green connector fit just fine...so don't go all "gorilla strength" on the bracket. Do this job yourself, its not too bad.

Great video! - however use should have shown the tools you used. I needed a 10" long needle nose pliers to get the hose clamp and hose off. I used a 1/2 ratchet with a 10" long extension and a universal joint to get the correct angle. Also a deep well 17 mm socket was needed.

Simple enough fix but as some comments mentioned below it's a very tight access even after you remove the ground wire. Be prepared to have variety of tools ready especially short handle/ angled tools to take out the clamps on the tube.

Simple and to the point, good stuff. My Civic’s oil appears to be disappearing at an alarming rate (~50% every 6,000 miles) so I’m guessing a leak developed or it’s burning too much from the PCV valve being stuck in or out. Funny enough, my gas mileage is still around 31-33 average when I calculate it. Gonna throw a new one on and see if it fixes it, thanks!

I had the same issue with oil consumption. I changed the PCV valve but didn't make a difference. Finally, noticed oil leak around the VTEC solenoid and valve/engine cover gasket. Both fixed now and car is no longer consuming oil and actually feels like it has more power. Good luck.

Hey dude, thanks for the tip with the PCV, my Civic was consuming about a litre of oil between changes even when I was driving it 2-3000 miles a year. Might ask my mechanic to change it next time it goes in... for this other issue, I wonder if you might have any ideas. My car has developed a weird noise that only happens under specific conditions - in gear, 2k+ RPM, gas pressed down/high torque called for, eg when climbing hills or doing a pull. No loss of power, just a kind of rattling sound coming from somewhere deep in front of me as I drive it... and no unusual noise at idle. I'm stumped.
@YourCarGuyDR

That sounds like what is called spark knock or detonation. Also known as pre-ignition. It can be caused by low octane fuel or possibly some carbon buildup. Run a good fuel cleaner and try running a tank of premium to see how it does.

Thanks for posting. I have an 06 Civic with 150K miles, and replacing the PCV valve is next on my maintenance list. I was also curious if you've experienced any oil leaks around the PCV/ VTEC solenoid area? I think this region is prone to leaking. I also believe I have an oil leak around the chain timing cover. Have you experienced any leaks around this area as well?

It would be doubtful to be a pcv valve. Things I would check if there is no check engine light are fuel pressure (possible plugged filter) or plugged catalytic converter. If the check engine light is coming on I would suspect there is a code for the tps sensor/ throttle body.

@YourCarGuyDR
@YourCarGuyDR 3 жыл бұрын
@@mattanfang if your POV valve is stuck open it can cause your high oil consumption. I would change it first because the other options require major repairs. The other things that could cause it are bad valve seals or bad piston rings. To be most manufacturers have an oil consumption rate that they consider to be within normal guidelines. I do not know the specific rate for Honda but for years 1 quart per 1000 miles was considered to be acceptable. This might just be that the manufacturers did not want a high standard that would cause them to have to rebuild or replace engines for oil consumption issues.
