With their Civic Tourer estate, launched in 2013, Honda for the first time designed a car in Europe as well as building it there. The result was an unexpectedly effective combination of style and practicality matched to driving dynamics a cut above those of most competing small estates and Crossovers. Especially when matched to peppy but frugal 1.6-litre diesel power. It's a surprising package for the right kind of used buyer.

And I am giving my Passat B8 2.0tdi for Civic 1.8 Tourer cause reliability is important. VW when it starts to brake you empty your bank account. Same with Audi.

@@DGT73I really liked the design of B8 model 2016 with those Led headlights and interior, but at the end the costs of maintanance and parts are just ridicilous if something starts to brake. Honda 1.8, 2.0 and 2.4 are one of the best petrol engines next to Toyota you can buy.

Magic seats are so under rated. We’ve an elderly dog, and she can just walk in to the back seat area and lay down without having to jump. I can also put my mountain bike straight in through the back door. (I’ve the hatchback version).

Great review! I bought 2015 diesel with 112000km 3 months ago, pass 2000km till now and I am sooooo happy with this buy. That car is so great and I hope I will drive it for AT LEAST 15y more. Checked oil few days ago and its clear like I pour it in that moment. Been on fast road and push it on max. 195km/h like it say's on specs with no trouble. That car drives like factory says. Only "fail" on it is that stearing have some 2mm lag to left side, but car still drive straight on line. I read on some Honda forum that this is standard bug for some models

I payed mine 10k bought it with only 87.000km manual 1.8. Prices went up now but anyway a good buy as they go all over to 13k at the moment.

Hi, Thanks for this really thorough review - really useful, especially when comparing emissions for the petrol v diesel options. That surprised me! However, is it necessary to leave that banner along the bottom ALL THE WAY THROUGH the review?? It obscures some details, especially on the internal shots and after the first five minutes is just plain annoying. Please remove it ;-)

Just bought one, 2014 70k. Agree fully with this review. Coming from vw , amazing engine and box, im averaging 67mpg mixed driving. Long gearing but decent torque. Handles very well, likes to waft along too. Splitting hairs: I’m finding it difficult to get comfortable in, I’ve driven nearly 2k but still haven’t found the best seating/steering wheel position…also the fact that the Speedo is on a different screen, and if you don’t have the steering wheel at the right angle you can’t see it. Basic infotainment is clunky but has solid Bluetooth connectivity.

A great review and until i heard that the diesel did not have the autobox option it was my top contender, but given the volume of traffic on the roads today i want an auto to be my next car, so everything that is not auto is out, so the search continues for an auto estate with top build quality like Honda, the Toyota Corolla is the next on the list, i just want decent engine pull into the bargain which is often where it all falls down. Great review though.

up to 78 uk mpg(65mp ug) with 1.6 diesel too, with a stickshift with good torque too

Gave up Passat B8 SW 2.0tdi for Civic Tourer 1.8vtec. My only visit to mechanic is going to be only for oil change from now on.😂

Would you still strongly recommend the 1.6 diesel in the current diesel fuel price hike?

You can since it consumes much less than the petrol. The 1.6 dtec is still one of the or still the most efficient diesel engine you can find.

I'm also driving the 1.6 i-dtec and even today, it's still cheaper than the petrol due to the lower consumption. I average at 4l/100km in my daily driving.

@@Asto508If used on short trips it would break faster. 1.8 is one of the most reliable engines out there and it does not have DPF which clogs if used unproperly. I took 2 days ago manual 1.8 it consumes 6-6.5 liters on 100km now in Winter. What can you wish for more.

They always are, I have a 2003 civic 1.7cdti with 242,000km and still drives like new.

As a new driver i would like to get this car. Something that is not too fast but enough space for whatever. Would you recommend this to a new driver? Or only an experienced one?

much rather have a spare wheel or space saver than under boot luggage room been looking for decent estate since my xsara estate grew old and died after 250,000miles not seen any worthy until now

The space also fits a 16' spare tire, or space saver donut.

Im here just confused... and cant decide. A Civic Type R FN2 is the same price as a 2016 Civic Tourer 1.6 dtec. Type r is the passion and this is the practicality, i have 2 kids. Difficult choice...

Not sure where you’re getting your prices from, my 1.6idtec was 9k and my fn2 is worth about 4k Both cars are typical Honda, reliable and great fun but the diesel was bought to do the miles, 70mpg, free tax and low insurance compared to 34mpg, £360 a year tax and higher insurance. Fn2 as a daily was getting too much, very hard suspension, you feel every bump in the road
