Well done man, you've obviously spent some time learning to do this correctly. You even did the boost sequence by the book, and you load tested the signal wire, putting yourself ahead of many pros. The practicality of getting to some of these connections is the most irritating part of the whole game. On first review I wondered why the battery was flat, but you addressed that in the comments, the owner left the key on overnight. The one issue I struggle with is the chance of corrosion on the main wires and specifically the engine ground strap. I guess as a screening test one could use a test light hooked to ground, touching engine while friend turns the start key. If it glows, ground is bad, but that will only detect gross ground strap problems, it's not sensitive enough. And if the solenoid fails to close it's a weak test. Clearly in this case the solenoid wasn't closing, and it is unlikely you'll get two diagnoses causing that, so it would be really unlikely to have a second problem in the B+feed. So, it all comes down to how one can quickly prove the ground strap is fine. Any ideas? Perhaps a multimeter or power probe with the same configuration as the test light above, effectively using the signal going to the solenoid as your 'test load' when a friend turns the start key (which would work even if the solenoid failed to close)?

Hey Spelunkerd! Thanks for your detailed comment, I read it all. There are only two sources of any electrical issues: 1) heat; 2) vibration. If it's possible always check loaded electrical circuit to get accurate reading. Multimeter only measures differences between to potentials. I have another video on my channel testing Nissan Titan fuel pump loaded circuit power and ground, showing everything in details. If you have good main power, ground and control to the starter pins (check connectors, sometimes you can have good voltage on the wire but not on the stud. I would recommend to do loaded circuit tests if all test check out, then only go to replace the started.

Thanks for the guidance! I was having problems with a P1078 code, and after resolving it, I ended up with the same issue that you were facing in the video. While taking out the IMRC system and cleaning it, I must have jostled the electrical supply to the starter and loosened it. All it took was a little attaching to get started!

Great video, looks like a very awkward job, don't know how you got the camera in there and got those great shots, my 2005 Honda CRV has now 122,000 miles on the clock on original starter so i will have to do this job eventually, I have seen this done from the top which means you have to strip out many hoses and connections also the inlet manifold, so I would put up with it being a bit awkward and do it your way which would be much quicker, thanks for taking the extra time to make and share the video.

Omg dude, you just totally wasted your time and someone elses money. Your never gonna get a car with a completely dead battery to start off a set of jumper cables. You would have to charge the battery for some time before it will even try to start. You never asked yourself the first and most important question, why was the battery completely dead? My guess, the alternator went out. That battery didnt go from cranking the car to completely dead unless it wasnt being charged and something was draining it, meaning the car was running off the battery alone until it ran completely down and the car died. You changed a perfectly fine starter for no reason. Lear to ask the right questions, the reason the battery was dead in the first place was completely lost on you man.
