I'm a woman in my 70's who just turned my minivan into a camper a couple of years ago. This is the same way I make an awning off my minivan. Have you thought of setting your awning off the back of your vehicle? That way, you could have access to the interior from all doors. The hatch door could be closed or lowered, too, without taking the tarp down.

I've, thought about it but haven't tried it yet! I'm sure I will play with it more.

Nice set up. Magnets are a great idea. Im going to car camp in my toyota matrix and was wondering how I was going to use my tarp with it. Your videos are getting better. Keep it up!

What pulling force wt magnets did you use? We tried this with suction cup hooks and the first strong wind pulled them off. Thanks.

They are rated for 320lbs straight up. I stuck them to an old fireplace and I couldn't pull it off, I had to slide it off the edge. They aren't as bad on a car, you just tip and pull. They worked amazing. Might want to duct tape them si they don't scratch.

The same thing happened when I used suction cups. They were very large ones, but couldn't resist the wind. The magnets I use now are only 100lb. They work fairly well, but, I may get some stronger ones at some point. Magnets with eyebolts make it easier to set and remove them. Duck tape applied to the magnet surface will help protect your vehicle's paint.

nice setup. I really liked the use of super strong magnets, and the carabiners. The poles and guy lines seemed to take a fair amount of time. I am in search of a rapid setup DIY truck awning for my Ridgeline. Enjoy the adventures,
