Honda Fit K&N Cold Air Intake Installation (K&N Part 69-1017TTK)

Күн бұрынToday, I'm helping my good friend Mark install a cold air intake on his car. The car is a 2012 Honda Fit, with the 1.5L engine. The part K&N Kit we are installing is part number 69-1017TTK. Its a farly simple installation, but there are some things the instructions didn't include. These little things are what I tried to add in this video.

Great video! I had used K&N before for my old Accord. I went with HPS this time on the Honda Fit. This video worked great for it as well! Thank you! I added it to my Honda Fit Playlist! 👍🏼

That is funny because I am using an HPS intake on my 2015 Honda fit currently! It was a similar process for installing the intake and after checking everything was well suited and tightly fitted I just started driving and noticed I can heal-toe-downshift A LOT better! For every car/truck I own I will at least do an intake install from now on.

good job guys, as stated below KN can foul MAF's it happened to my moms car, had me scratching my head until i read some tech bulletins

Good job guys, prefer the dry flow filters better, they filter better than the K&N and also dont have oil to mess with the MAF sensor

True. It's crazy how many details were left out of these instructions. The ones I've installed before had decent instructions. These were lacking.

Without having a dyno to test the HP numbers I don't know. All I can say is that it doesn't feel like it lost any HP. It feels like it has more.

Jeff, as you probably know I am not a fan of these k&n kits. I have seen numerous issues with them and similar companies when installed on customers vehicles that come in my shop. The oil gets on those mass air flow sensors and reeks havoc causing false readings. We also noticed thru scan data of the mass air sensor that factory set ups actually flowed more air especially in mustangs.

I know you're not. I've heard of the over oiling messing with the MAF sensor. So far, I havent had that issue. I've been thinking about doing an unscientific test on this just to see what happens. It might make a fun project.

I am thinking of doing an intake similar to this kit but now I'm unsure. Could you explain what you mean by the oil causing issues with the airflow sensor? Also I am going to be using a breather filter for the crank vent rather than using a hose to connect to the intake pipe, will this be better?

As a professional auto technician I saw a lot of these conversions. The oil from the the air filter is sucked into the engine. On the way it gets sucked past the mass airflow sensor causing the sensor to get covered in oil. This then insulates the wire that the sensor uses to determine the airflow going into the engine. That wire has voltage going thru it and is cooled by air changing how much voltage that is flowing thru the wire. The computer sees the amount of voltage and determines how much air is running thru it. By the oil insulating the wire it throws off the computer’s ability to determine airflow and fuel mixture. I’ve especially seen it on Fords. We had several mustangs where we could actually watch the airflow thru the scan tool and see that the stock air filter flowed more air than the aftermarket kits. Sometimes there is an ambient air temperature sensor along side too. The aftermarket kits do a poor job sucking cool outside air. They tend to suck the hot engine compartment air.

@@jimbond24 "Tend to" Depending on filter and exhaust manifold location. According to my OBD2 my SRI is roughly the same temperature as my stock airbox "While moving" What I did notice about the factory air box is that it was sucking more humid air compared to the SRI. I guess it all depends on what you are trying to achieve and your application.

The exploded view in the instructions specifically indicates which fastener goes where and how many. In your video, you expressed frustrations with not knowing where the fasteners go. Well, there you go!

Good video but I have a 2013 Honda Fit sport which I installed this same k&n unit but after 50 miles I would get a check engine code too lean. Contacted K&N support but no help. So I took that unit out couldn’t deal with constant engine code.

Heard some of the newer cars have this issue as they upgrade the ECM units on them, try a dry flow AEM or similar dry flow high flow filters they are on Amazon and Ebay

Hola, ese es un problema común de los “Air Intakes”, no estoy seguro pero, me parece que es debido a que la cantidad de aire que entra es mayor y la computadora interpreta eso como que hay un problema con la relación aire-combustible, es decir, la mezcla es muy “rica” o “abundante”, más de lo necesario. ¿Qué marca de Intake compraste tú?

Does this work on a 2009 1.3 fit? Or it has to be a 1.5 engine? If not model is for a 1.3 engine
