I bought the model HS720CS (with remote chute controls and electric start) last week and it works very well. The remote controls are mechanical and not electric tho. I can change the direction and angle of the snow throw while keeping the snow blower running. It's definitely worthy of the extra cost. This Honda is very powerful. The only minor issue are the wheels. They tend to lose traction in deep snow. I guess this is a common issue among most if not all the single stage snow blowers. I may replace the wheels once I can find suitable replacements.

I'm confused about the benefits of the remote chute controls when you commented that you still had to manually move them? Also, do you find that the electric start is more of a convenience for starting the machine below 32F or is there other benefits?

@@1995melw I meant these are connected by physical wires/cables vs by electrical cables (to some sort of motorized components) so the movements are not very smooth. I bought the electric start in case my wife needs to use the snowblower in a very cold day and this is the only benefit. BTW, I just changed the oil and I started it on my first pull - it's a fairly warm day tho,

I own an Ariens Path Pro 21 single stage and the electric start is so worth it. Especially when it is super cold, you do not have to pull multiple times as you do with pull start. I love mine. Wheels are not powered on single stage machines, but you lift ever so slightly on the handle and the impeller powers it forward. @@1995melw

Great review thanks. I hear what you're saying about the remote chute controls BUT, there is an argument to me made in favour of your manual controls which are virtually maintenance free. It's why your unit is considered the "commercial" version. Contractors need things to work all day - every day with minimal down time for maintenance. They may not be as convenient but not much can go wrong with them either 👍.

Well put! Sadly these will no longer be available in the US, Honda is ditching the single stage line up….they will remain available in Canada, however.

@@gwheel3502 I'm sure my KZfaq handle tells you where I'm from LOL. In southern Ontario our average snowfalls are less than 12" per storm. I have an old Craftsman 2-stage that was a hand-me-down from my dad. It's about 25 years old, rusty but runs and blows snow fine - but it's a bear to handle on a smaller urban property (4+1 car parking). I'm looking at a single stage for the average snow dumps (< 12") and may tuck the old Craftsman in the shed for the odd time we see snowmageddon which is rarely if ever these these days.

He has tested Harbor Freight gear which is equivalent to Princess Auto, so he's in the USA. I'm in Pickering waiting to bring out the Toro to tackle the storm we are both currently in. Wednesday Feb 11 half hour before midnight. Stay off the roads unless you gotta go to Timmies or Crappy real bad...

I live in Windsor and we get lots of slush. I own this similar model and it works excellent with this type of snow but horrible with the slush. If anyone has tips on how to deal with the snow-plugsin the thrower let me know. I tried oil spray with no luck.

nice technique... even, moderate push and let the machine do the work. I hate seeing people bashing/pull back/bash the front of the blower into snow. serves no purpose but to add more vibration to the machine.

I'm a big Honda fan, but even though I have the 2 stage Honda HSS-724 with Tracks, I want to the Ariens Pro 21 for a single stage because I like the way it can be easily slid on handle bars into a truck, and the hours meter on it. So I prefer 2 snowblowers, depending on what comes at us in Winnipeg.

I love my Ariens Path Pro 21 I use the electric start all the time. No it is not the commercial model. But this was their commercial before they came out with the commercial model they have now. But yes I would recommend Ariens, they make fine snowthrowers.

All seasons in Glenville, but Honda stopped selling this model in the US. They may have some left over but not sure

Live in Michigan and have had one of these for a few years.. The unit is too heavy which causes the wheels to cake with ice and stop turning. I like Honda products, but this one is a loser in my opinion. Consumer Reports gave it a high rating, but come to find out, they tested it with sand vs snow and cold. No good.

I agree the wheels are not the best, small rubber ones similar to a dolly would be preferred but would look odd. I haven’t found the wheels to be a show stopper by any means, but ice can build up and inhibit forward motion if you aren’t keeping an eye on them.
