Fixing a seized boot handle on a 2009 Honda Jazz.
The handle features some steel components which have corroded and this made the handle seize. As the handle was seized the boot lid did not fully close and this at times left the boot light on which caused the car to have a flat battery on a few occasions.
The repair was quite simple, just remove the handle. Disassemble it, clean up the parts and then reassemble with some copper grease to keep away future corrosion. All in nothing was spent on replacement parts just an hour of time and some grease was used.

Very helpful, thank you. I read a comment saying you didn't need to remove wiper, just loosen some of the fastenings of black plastic cover on the left. Remember to undo the 8 mm bolt first. I tried this and it worked

Terrific video. Step by step. Clear footage. In this particular case I'll not be attempting the repair - but that in itself is helpful. Thank you. Keep up the good work.

Had the opposite problem with mine: the boot wouldn't open at all. Sprayed some lubricant on the mechanism under the cover (on the inside obviously). Job done - Boot opens.

I have the same issue four years ago. I use compressor to clean it and spray with rust proof lubricate into the latch. no door dissemble required. After one two week of usage. The latch back to normal again till now. also the rust proof spray keep the rust away and lub the latch.

Thanks for the video, it helped no end. However, those white poppet clips that hold the exterior black plastic trim on!! What an utter pain in the arse to get them to release! I ended up getting a crowbar on the bottom of them and levering them up from the inside of the car. There's no way panel clip spreader would have released them.

I did all that with ours about 3 years ago. In the process of doing it again. The metal just keeps rusting, despite repainting.This time I'm replacing the hinge pin with one I made from stainless. Threaded both ends and fitted with stainless nuts, locktighted as needed. Keeping my fingers crossed.
@peugeotCitroen2CV
@peugeotCitroen2CV 4 жыл бұрын
You are going down the best route there with stainless. The metal seems to be in a vulnerable place and any surface coating needs to be very good. Ideally to repaint the metal needs to be brought back to shiny steel, rust converter applied and then a good durable paint coat applied or perhaps the part annodised. But stainless steel wont go wrong. I remember at work we had an order in for stainless steel machines, left a lot of stainless steel offcuts, made quite a number of tow bar trailer plug socket holders a part that rusts very quickly when made from mild steel due to the very exposed location, stainless steel was the ideal material for that purpose.

Hi there I am not sure to be honest i don't do mechanic work as a job so not sure what the rates are like its a question i get asked and i never can answer accurately, this is just a hobby when I'm not in the day job. a new latch is less than £20 on ebay, the rest a few basic tools and perhaps the right video on youtube should make it easy enough to tackle yourself😉

I know that cats chase after laser pointer lights. I wonder if dogs are the same. Instead of a broom, try a laser pointer.

I do recall a cat we had did chase after a laser pointer, this dog most of the time runs circles around whatever car i happen to be working on, and has a strange fixation with the concrete.

It is simply unbelievable about the amount of extra dismantling required to fix something so simple! Says a lot about the design, no? Utter rubbish design - made deliberately difficult so that owners go to main dealers and have to pay lots of cash! Obviously a car to avoid: JapCrap.
@peugeotCitroen2CV
@peugeotCitroen2CV 5 жыл бұрын
Id disagree, it took a bit of time to remove the parts but in the end thats what working on cars or any mechanism is all about. This did not cost anything to fix other than a bit of time and patience. Easily within the realms of the DIYer and no need to run to the dealer and spend a load of cash. In the end the car has to be designed so that it meets many different requirements. First it has to retain the styling the orginal stylist sketches up, it has to use whatever common components the manufactuer keeps, the parts all have to be easy to assemble on a production line. The servicing requirements for the car as it passes the 10 year mark are not at the top of the list of priorities but it seemed quite acceptable what had to be done on this car to repair this problem. Interesting to see JapCrap instead of French shite haha.

It can be worse and more technical with european cars though, and more $$$$ for parts!! of course lol
@peugeotCitroen2CV
@peugeotCitroen2CV 4 жыл бұрын
@@tim3854 It would depend on the car, i wouldnt blanket term all european cars as being unnecessarially complicated, the same job on any of my old french cars would be very simple, i know as ive taken a few bootlids apart to have bodywork done, even on a mk4 vw golf it wasnt too bad.

My car problem is coolant tank water mixing with an oil.
@peugeotCitroen2CV
@peugeotCitroen2CV 6 жыл бұрын
Babar I have not done too much work on the Jazz so do not know a huge amount about their mechanicals. Water in the oil can be a sign of head gasket failure, although it may be worth finding out if your jazz has an oil cooler, or if it has an automatic transmission is the transmission oil cooler and engine radiator one unit.
@guggie2000
@guggie2000 6 жыл бұрын
i'ts not Jazz, it's renault modus automatic and it has oil cooler. There was maynonaise in coolant tank, which i did coolant flush. Now i over fill the water from top to clean it, i can see little bit ziz zag oil. It's not giving me any smoke, the engine is running fine.
