Mark Nichol takes a good look at Honda's smallest, cleverest little car - the Jazz. He also has some new shoes.

We call it the Honda Fit here in the states but I love mine, I've had it for almost 7 years now and have had to have very little maintenance done on it aside from normal wear and tear stuff. I plan on driving it until it dies lol

Does your car have an automatic transmission? My biggest concern regarding auto transmissions is that they are not as reliable as the manual ones.

In Japan you can get the Jazz with the CR-Z ZF2 Engine (1.5L 120HP Petrol + 20HP E-Motor)0-100 in less than 8 seconds...

I quite like this new Jazz. It's an honest, small car like the previous generations, and like the previous generations, it's very practical and bigger on the inside, like a TARDIS or a stripper.

I have the Honda jazz 2009 1.4 semi auto and on the motorway it has really good gas mileage I get around 59 to 60 mpg and it don’t feel under powered as the 1.3 litre if you get the car go for the 1.4 litre rather than the 1.3.

The Jazz is looking a lot better than a Citroen Cactus that's for sure. I don't really get the many complaints about the Jazz its looks. It's not exactly handsome, but name me a b-segment hatchback that is? Performance? It's better then most say, but I understand where it comes from. Well the typical 2nd to 3th gear shift is a disapointment, even if you shift as late as 3500 rpm (at driving schools they tell you to shift around 2000 tot 2500rpm), there is a very noiticible lack of torque when you continue the acceleration from gear nr 3. My advise, if you need performance, wait with the 2 to 3 shift till you are at 4500 rpm. The Jazz likes to rev, if you like the 1.8 ivtec from the 2007 Civic, you like how the 1.3 works!

Yes, extraordinary rear seat passenger room. Decent car but the crease on the side is stupid. The gas tank hump intrudes into front seat leg room. Has more cargo volume inside with the rear seats folded down than other cars of its external size and the hatch is a bit bigger, but a lot of that internal room is due to the HEIGHT of the cargo space. The same volume with increased width and length and less height would have made the cargo space more useful. In the US, we get a 1.5 liter engine - no choices - that revs up REAL nicely, quickly and smoothly, but we don't get parking sensors. The car is easy to merge onto the freeway - maybe you call it a limited access highway where you are. The CVT has better acceleration than the 6-speed manual. It takes only 8.8 sec to accelerate from 0 to 60 with the CVT. With the throttle to the floor, the engine rapidly winds up to almost redline, and STAYS PUT at that RPM while the CVT does all the work of bringing the car up to speed. Yes it is a bit noisy at 6800 rpm, but it's only for a few seconds. I really enjoy it when, merging onto the freeway, I see vehicles pulling away from the merge lane, or slowing down to give me space, to let me in ahead of them - completely unnecessarily - probably because they are incorrectly assuming I won't be able to accelerate fast enough to fit in without them doing this. In India, and some other places, you can get climate control but not in the US. Weird. I like climate control. There you have a choice of 3 engines! 1.3 liter petrol, 1.5 liter gasoline (gasoline is sort of like petrol), and a diesel. The front windshield is at a very steep angle. Great for limiting wind resistance but the bad side is that in hot weather, interior heating from sunlight is quite a lot. Makes it hard for the AC to keep up. As soon as the sun goes behind a cloud, the interior feels cooler, even though the outside temperature has not changed. The horizontal dash section gets painfully hot. Open one door, for just 2 seconds, and the cabin temperature immediately gets much higher, and then it takes a good few minutes to cool down again. I haven't road-tested similar cars from Nissan, Mitsubishi, Mazda, Toyota, Scion, or Ford, but I've been told the Jazz-Fit handles better than all of them, except for the Ford Fiesta - which has much less cargo space.

I won't go for a turbo engine, it's not long lasting. Just google how many issues cars has with turbo's. I prefer natural aspirated engine. Car of this size, i don't think someone will be rallying in there. If someone has more money to burn, and more time to spend in the workshops, go buy Germans cars..

Please, my 23 years old Subaru is Turbo and has no issues of any kind, turbo related and rust related, so please.... it depends how you built the car in the first place. Most Honda cars are N/A because they have VTEC instead.

My 2015 1.3 Honda Jazz EX just died after only 3 years and 165,000 Miles mainly on the motorway and country lanes so much for most reliable car going, I probably should have bought a diesel Civic

What I don't understand is there is a 1.3 option with 101bhp and a 1.5 litre engine with 129bhp. My uncle in Singapore has a new Honda Jazz and it has a 1.5 litre engine with 129bhp. I wish the UK had that model

There are a number of American website that feature Honda Fit camping. It's called the Fit in America, if you hadn't figured that out. There are some really nice designs that make the car into a legitimate, if somewhat small camper.
