One thing to be aware of. When removing or replacing the battery take care to NOT break or bend the 4 battery retaining tabs. Otherwise there is a good chance the FOB won't work correctly. Don't do this with a cold FOB (most FOBS give the error indication when they are cold (winter)). I would do this with the FOB at room temperature or a bit higher so the plastic table are not brittle. Less chance of breaking them.

Again, straight to the point, no bells and whistles, just how to do it and do it right. No muss, no fuss! Thanks!

When I said I could probably find an instructional video on KZfaq, he said: “Oh, don’t do that, you could break it. Better to take it to the dealer to have the battery changed.” I’m sure glad I didn’t listen to him because I followed your instructions step-by-step and my key fob is working perfectly. BTW, I’m a mechanically-inept 82 year old female. If I can do it, anyone can do it. Just follow these excellent instructions.

The only thing I had go wrong was not lining it up perfectly which caused the alarm to go off. I took it apart again, realigned, and then it was done. Just take caution to not do this procedure in the middle of the night when people are sleeping😁

Using the key to pry it apart is a helpful step you mention. I've watched other videos, and they talk about prying it apart with their hands

Be careful when you separate the two side of the keys. The entire fob fell apart on me along with all of the little components - took me a while to get it all back together - pain in the butt. Btw, if you were wondering, replacing a Honda fob takes 3-4 hours and it's about $400 bucks at the dealership - the car and key must be programmed together! Big pain. I was going to replace my fob, but after hearing the $400+ price tag and 4 hours, decided to double down on my efforts to put the fob back together - it worked and saved me $400 and having to deal with snarly Honda service people. I waiting for the replacement battery. Honda - big rip off.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! The first time the battery went dead, I asked the dealer to show me how when I had it in for service. They just took it and changed the battery. I guess I was lucky that they "only" charged me $10.

Warning: I have a 2016 CRV and when I opened the key fob, the little push button face plates for lock-unlock-trunk-hold fell out. They're light pieces of plastic so they're hard to handle. To reinsert them, lay the proper half of the fob's frame face down and position each plate in place (make sure their images are oriented properly so they won't be upside down), and then lay the battery gizmo on top, with the battery facing up. Make sure the face plates align properly with their respective buttons. Then carefully place the other half of the fob on top. If everything is aligned, the two halves of the fob will snap back into place as shown in the video. I particularly liked the idea of using the key to pry the two halves apart and the rest of the directions were helpful as well.
