Honda Odyssey Check Transmission Flashing D P0873 4th Gear Pressure Switch Replacement

Got the dreaded Check Transmission message and Flashing D. Car is a 2008 Odyssey and all of the existing videos are from 2007 and earlier transmissions, 2008-2010 is different. My code puller did not pull the code but the shop got a P0873. Part number for OEM 4th Gear Pressure Switch is in the video.

This video was extremely helpful today as we fixed this problem, thank you! Also, for what it's worth - we had to find the part at the Honda dealership as many of the auto shops in town did not carry it and had trouble knowing how to find what I was looking for.

Just did this on my 08 Odyssey on the weekend, the video really helped. Removed the air box and the cable bracket (mentioned at 6:20) and accessed the sensor from the wheel well. I was going to use my 22mm deep well impact socket but it was too thick. Luckily I borrowed a 7/8 oxygen sensor socket from the neighbor. Make sure you have a regular deep well 22mm or 7/8" socket. Also used a wobble as it made the correct extension length. I used a cheater bar on my ratchet handle to get more leverage but a long handle breaker bar would work as well. Good video. Thanks

just did this on my 2002 odyssey. i was able to go through the wheel well after removing the tire and some trim clips.

It's just a deep socket, I don't remember the size, seems like a 17 or so. I added a wobble so I could angle the ratchet a bit.

I have 2007 Odyssey blink drive it show check transmission then suddenly went off should I changed?

The check transmission light can be related to a number of codes, not just this sensor. You should pull the historical codes and see which code triggered the light and determine what that code is related to. A parts store can pull the codes or there are devices you can buy.

znatezz thanks for reply scan it but there no code car runs fine there nothing sign having issue do think good idea just change my transmission sensor.

I figured it out. When you put the van in drive the D starts blinking....its the shifter gone up ...lol the check transmission light comes on ..then will disappear..engine picture comes on ..now transmission fluid was 1/2 ct low. Im learning fast..also the tighten cap lite really tighten gas cap and also check the gasket inside the cap

Yes, I didn’t clear the light to make sure it would clear on it’s own and it did after a short time of driving.

You know where is located the tranmission filter

Transmission filter is located INSIDE the transmission, you have to pull out the transmission to clean and replace. As long as you keep up with your atf changes and add a atf cooler if will last forever.

It's under $50 from a number of places, www.amazon.com/Honda-28600-R36-004-Automatic-Transmission-Pressure/dp/B00LIS6QX8. Probably a bit more at the local dealer.

Thank you for the info. I got one more question.The Honda dealer said I need to replace two AT Oil Pressure Switches (part #28600-R36-004). Do you know if this is true?

It's hard to say from here. If they can show both are bad that may be true but I would think it would be odd that both would go bad at once. They may just want to replace them at the same time in case the other were to go out soon. There should only be one switch for each gear so I don't think it would be two of the same thing. I would ask for more information on how they diagnosed both as bad.

Have you had a shop or parts store check the code? If you just see the Check Transmission error you will need to get the specific code. If the code is the same as the P0873 that I got you will need to have the switch replaced as shown in the video.

that is not a breaker bar, it is a torque wrench

Technically you are correct sir, however that specific wrench had the torque stuff broken so I pulled the bottom out and I just use it as a small breaker because my other one is larger.

Si es el mismo problema codigo P0873 , tienes que cambiar el sensor de presion de aceite del 4to cambio de la transmission, Numero de parte 28600-R36-004, el video te da la guia como hacerlo, ahora bien si no es el sensor, tienes que reconstruir tu transmision, esa generacion de honda sufre de quemar el convertidor de par, es el problema mas comun en ellos.- Suerte
