This guys whistling put me at ease and told me that I CAN fix my mower
@cindydenning1502Ай бұрын
This worked for me but I also had to adjust the springs to the Governor which was the main culprit. Just put in a new carburetor and mower was revving way up and revving down. Problem solved. Thank you!

did the same thing on a HRR216 gcv160 i resold last year. The person who I had got it from had messed with it and to get it to run and the carb needed replacement, also carb gaskets were in very bad shape. The person who I got it from had went all STHIL all electric for everything. I also got a KM90R I need to replace the carb on,

So I had to # auto choke system in order to find your video. It seems that when you type in GCV 160, it takes you to the other Honda frame that has the throttle lever in order to place in full throttle mode. So I am going through the same issue of high revving. I'm thinking that someone had gone in and bent the linkage so minor that you can't tell or feel any kind of bend. These two Hondas were waiting on replacement carbs.

Great video. Just purchased a used HRR2164VXA and it's over revving a ton. When he was checking RPM's was that a non-contact tachometer he was using? If it was would anyone happen to know the brand, model or part number of it?

I have the same mower, same problem. The shaft won’t adjust at all. It’s completely solid. But I may be using the wrong pliers I don’t have the kind you have in the video. Maybe it’s time to take a trip to the hardware store.
@TomDobyMowerRepair Жыл бұрын
try loosening the nut... pull the arm off the shaft... push the shaft into the block and rotate it to the right and pull it back out. then reinstall, and rotate the shaft right while you're pushing the arm to the right and tighten the nut

@@TomDobyMowerRepair bro it worked! Thank you! Okay I’d tried fixing it a dozen times with my needle nose pliers and I couldn’t get that governor piece to budge it was just frozen in place. I removed the air filter housing thinking maybe one of the springs was stuck or disengaged but everything seemed okay. Today I stopped by Lowe’s and bought a pair of Channellock Linesman pliers (my first made in the USA tool I ever bought actually). They seemed to grab the governor piece much better and I rocked it back and forth like you did in the video. To be honest bro once I got it loose with the new pliers I turned it counter clockwise because all the videos I saw before yours said that’s the direction you want to make the adjustment because that’s what lowers the RPMs. It didn’t work. I turned the choke all the way on, started the mower and then slowly eased off the choke and the RPMs shot up again like all the other times. It was getting dark outside and I said I’ll try one more adjustment I’ll do it like the guy (you) in the last video I watched. So I adjusted it clockwise, started it up with the choke engaged and eased off the choke and the RPMs FINALLY sounded normal! We got it running. I don’t know how it worked because everyone was saying clockwise raises the RPMs? Just glad it did. And I got a new tool today so I’m happy haha. Thanks again bro! Appreciate your video. I’m subbed.

Your video helped me reset my idle, many thanks!!!! Question, I have a craftsman with the Honda 160. Is there anyway to adjust the self propelled speed, it's pretty slow. I attempted to raise the idle thinking that would help, that's how I got into the high idle jam:) It just has the normal two levers, one for the dead man switch, and one for engaging the blades.

Thank you sir, I'll check it out!!! I snagged this mower off a tree lawn last Fall. I think the people were moving and just didn't want to take it with them. Took it home and had it running in 15 minutes. Had it up on the operating room table today and cleaned the wheel adjustors and lubed the wheels, axels, and gears. Did a full service on it last Fall before storing, one of the best running engines in my fleet!!!@@TomDobyMowerRepair

where the spring attaches to the gov arm... bend it to increase tension and the rpm's will rise

I can't find the damn spring in mine. I'm not sure what year it is. Its an older 5hp 22 inch Murray. Thats all i know about it. I was mowing and suddenly my rpms dropped. It has very little power and isn't able to cut anything. I also noticed a little oil leak that only drips while running.
