2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz
In the red corner we have the 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz.
Powered by a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine cranking out 277 horsepower and an impressive 311 lb-ft of torque. This gives the Hyundai Santa Cruz a 0-60mph of 6 seconds flat.
It’s got AWD as standard and power to the four wheels comes through an eight-speed dual clutch automatic with a lockable center differential.
Fuel economy shows around 24 miles per gallon in mixed driving. Starting price for the Hyundai Santa Cruz? $25,215. Not bad for what you get!
2022 Honda Ridgeline
In the blue corner we have the largest unibody truck of them all - the 2022 Honda Ridgeline.
Powered by a 3.5-litre naturally-aspirated V6 engine putting out 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. It’s a little slower to 60mph which it completes in 6.2 seconds.
Power is transferred to the wheels via a ZF nine-speed automatic transmission and it’s equipped with Honda’s torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive system. In addition it also has a proper limited-slip differential on the rear axle.
It’s thirstier than the Santa Cruz with a combined rating of 21 mpg and it’s also a lot pricier, the basic Sport trim for the Honda Ridgeline starts at $38,115. Quite a gap from the 25k price of the Santa Cruz.

I always find myself preferring one of those designs over the others depending on the day lol. There have been times where I've thought all three were the best looking out of the trio lol. At this moment it time, I find myself liking the design of the Ferrari the most, the P1 the least. Before that, the 918 was my fav, before that, the P1 lol.

I would always choose the Honda - few brands can match Honda for reliability and having owned a couple of different brand cars myself, I can attest to that reputation. Even if you argue that the Hyundai is a lifestyle car and the Honda is a more traditional truck, reliability is still a factor the moment you go off-road.

I beg to differ and Hyundai clear has one of the best if not the best warranty on the market. They stand behind their products and towing 5000lbs says all u need to know about the Santa Cruz. Its just as tough if NOT TOUGHER and better 4x4 clearance and torque. And as far as LOOKS!!! WELL.....one clearly says Kaitlyn Jenner owns one and the Santa Cruz is not in the category. The Ridgeline should be hold the banner at the 🌈 parade. Santa Fe.....is sweet and its the new sheriff in town.

You can get a Santa Cruz with front wheel drive and a regular 8 speed automatic transmission. But it's not the turbocharged engine. To get the specs you mentioned for the Santa Cruz you're going to spend at least $40k, which is more than a base ridgeline with the V6 + 9speed automatic as standard.

Not sure what you chose the rebel for, but the ridge line meets the needs of many people that are looking to do truck stuff. I am a property manager and I want versatility and a usable bed and some towing capacity when I'm pulling a trailer and ergonomics and good on-road performance when I'm driving around the downtown area. There is literally no other truck that would do this as well as the ridge line

Same here. I owned the gen 1 ridgeline since 2008 and have built and remodeled numerous houses to preSent day. I’ve picked up and hauled lots of loads people thought we’re not possible. I can tow a 21’ boat with ease and fit the truck in a standard garage. I gave my old one to a family member in need and just bought a 2023 ridge rtl for myself. Plan to keep it just as long. One thing not mentioned in this video, the in bed trunk. I can fit all my tools in there out of sight and still have the usable backseat which is priceless in a pickup

The Ridgeline started out the same way, more SUV than truck and oddly shaped. Some love it and some hate it. Then Honda changed the shape to look more like a truck... Every Ridgeline made before the redesign was 4 wheel drive and same 6 cylinder engine with towing package standard. The ridgeline has very high quality and trouble free for owners. My Santa Cruz is what I would call a smaller version of my wife's Ridgeline with a lot of cool electronics but nowhere near as functional. Ridgeline will tow better, has a good bit more room, definitely more storage under the seats and the underbed storage compartment big enough for a couple bodies. The Santa Cruz is loaded with technology. Dependability is uncertain.

I researched heavily and compared before buying my Ridgeline, so obviously biased option coming… but the pricing and specs thing always gets me when people do these videos because they give the best specs with the lowest prices, if you wanted the Santa Cruz w/ the better engine/ and and tow hitch (comes standard on the Ridgeline) they’re maybe a $200 dollar difference between the two.

Your mention the huge difference in starting price between the two but fail to give proper comparison. You described the Santa Cruz with the optional 2.5 turbo (4 cyl) and DCT transmission which starts at $40,000+ but you give a starting price of $25,000 very deceiving. Yet the Honda has as standard equipment a V6 and automatic for starting price of $38,000.

I'm a Honda Ridgeline owner (2023 Black Edition) I previously owned a 2013 Ridgeline and I have owned several other makes & models of P/U trucks over the years. I'm pushing 60, and when the terms "crossover"or "not real trucks" are noted or mentioned regarding these vehicles, I instantly flashback to the day's when a couple of vehicles were made by Chevrolet & Ford, called El Camino and Ranchero. Essentially, station wagons that were modified by replacing the passenger compartment with a truck bed. Not everyone liked them, but they were liked enough that they held their own for many years. In a way, history is repeating itself in regard to this concept, just with some off-road capabilities thrown in which is in my opinion a good strategy. Just thought I would throw that against the wall, and see if it sticks. Cheers!

The Ridgeline actually has a tent for the bed for camping. The bed can fit an ATV and a double sized air matress. Plus all ypur camping supplies fit right in ypur trunk. good luck with that in the Hyundia. The santa cruz doesnt even come factory with a hitch unless you order it with one. So you might aswell get an SUV. That way your not attempting to fit things in the back that dont fit; pretty much anything bigger then what most SUVs can hold.

I owned the 2022 Honda Ridgeline HPD Black. The quality was questionable , entertainment system had long lag time, the HPD plastic wheel flares was coming off slightly in the front, the tonneau cover was leaking, the trans was slipping, my girl friend who knowns absolutely nothing about cars road with me and ask why was my truck doing that lol. I traded it, paid off the loan dealer paid me $37,291.63 for it, so I purchase the Santa Cruz and so far been very happy with it. Don't get me wrong, I like the Ridgeline, I think I had a bad one, this doesn't mean they are all like that. At least Honda holds good return value, would buy another one in the future once they re-design it, because they are quite dated, and boring old design compared to other new trucks of today.

Hyundai have had a nightmare with their current frontend look. It looks like the final design had been amended time and again from the creative department's original design. As though a tonne of people (the executive board?) all had their own amends to be made to the original design. As though the CEO sent a group email to the executive board asking, "Can you all please send me your updates for the Santa Cruz?" And then they all sent them back separately. And the CEO just provided the designer with a list of everyone's changes, without any thought for cohesion between them all. I reckon. :)

Ridgeline for the win. The Hyundai is reeeeeeaaaaalllly a lot smaller. The Hyundai bed is unusably small. And, maxed out, the Hundai is only a few thousand dollars less. They Hyundai is for a very niche market of people who BARELY need a bed. The Honda is an actual pick-up truck.... Also, on the interior. The Hyundai is solid black. Combined with it's tiny cabin, it truly feels claustrophobic as a space. Whereas the Honda is not only physically cavernous, the top half of the interior is a lighter shade of gray, which really lightens up and accentuates the openness in the cabin.
