Honda S800 racing with Datsun, MGB and Mini Cooper

In-car video of vintage race at Roebling Road in Savannah. I finished 3rd overall after finding a way past an MGB and a great race against a Datsun B210. There is also some very entertaining footage of a fast Mini Cooper leaving black streaks on the track as he slides through the corners.

In a recent article in New Zealand's Classic Car Magazine, Eion Young revealled that Denny Hulme (drove Can-Ams with Bruce McLaren during the 60s in the States) enjoyed driving the S800 and was amazed how nimble it was. He qoutes saying it was one of the best cars he had driven. 3 years later he became F1 World Champion..... For me, I drive an N360 =D. Thanks for uploading

Not V-TECH, twin cam and 16 valves plus four carburetors but no variable valve timing.

@@StephenMalbon actually just 8 valves. but four carb, twin-cam, cross-flow, tuned 4 into 1 exhaust, roller bearing crank and 10,000 glorious rpm!

is that you driving if so massive props, to have a slower car and to still exit corners faster and keep up with faster cars, actually means you have quite a talent for racing... Well Done, credit where it's due. :)

What a great little car...I wish they still made cars like this. All the electronic nannies, emissions junk and safety standards have turned cars into obese, dull, soulless appliances. It doesn't make sense to me at all...manufacturers can't sell cars like this but you can buy a motorcycle that is a heck of a lot more dangerous.

The Datsun's owner is Dennis Moser. His company is Alloy Welding Company in North Wilkesboro (336) 667-7783. He did the complete ground-up build of the car and it is a really professional, first rate job.

The 5 dislikes are from the MGB driver you passed. He created 5 accounts to just to dislike this.

Doug, wish you had posted a picture of the car. Looks like it has a nice paint job. Is that windshield flexing at speed? Did you sell the car? I tried to buy an S800 after seeing one in Okinawa at a Honda dealer in 1967. I wrote to Honda and they advised me not to buy it as I would have no parts or service. Ran into a guy in Long Beach, CA in 1969 or so who had a fast back S800. It was him, his wife, and the kids packed behind the seats like sardines. He told me that he just took his to the Honda Motorcycle shop for service. Fun looking race!

I sold the car last summer. Yes. the plexi windshield would start to flex around 90mph - cheater "active" aero!
