I typically refer to "Grandpa Google" when attempting a new repair job that I have never done before. This is one of those times. I watched a couple of other videos and was not satisfied that I had a solid understanding of the process for replacing fork seals. Then,.... I found this video. I watched it twice because I was laughing too much the first time. I wasn't laughing at you because of the mistakes you made, i was laughing because I thought for a second,...."Did I make this video?" I have now subscribed to your videos and you are now my "Go to Grandpa Google guy." Thank you for your patience and perseverance!

nice work finding that vacuum pole for the seal driver. I just had the hardest freaking time driving mine down bc the PVC I picked up wouldn't fit right. Of course I was too impatient to wait till next day for the store to open so ive been at it the past couple hours trying everything. Hopefully I didnt beat on the seal too much to cause damage otherwise ill be right back at it again redoing the job. Thanks for the video
@Squisheyy
@Squisheyy 2 жыл бұрын
OMG, Yeah, I hope you didn't damage the seals. I bought PVC also and it didn't fit so I returned it and found the vacuum hose extension. Which was the next day. Watch out for the speedometer cable routing. I broke a couple of cables because I didn't route them back correctly. Glendale Honda guy told me to check it when I went in for my 3rd cable lol. An expensive lesson for sure. I also bought the fluid and seals from him. So, I guess he knew what was up.

Great video. Seems like it took you a couple of days but you got there. Hope the test ride went smoothly. It’s really hard doing things the first time but by number fifteen you should be good at it. That’s why mechanics do these standard maintenance jobs better than DIYers because they do them, if not everyday at least once a week.

You should break the bolts loose from the dampers before you relieve the tension of the spring. A impact driver is the preferred method. Do not remove these bolts because you will leak oil everywhere. Just break them loose and hope they come all the way out after the spring is removed. There is a tool to prevent the damper from spinning and blah blah blah. I assisted on these exact forks just today. All I did was get the damper bolts loose. The right side had four ounces of water and a shitload of rust. We only put the fork oil in once.
@Squisheyy

I leaked oil everywhere on one side, did it better on the other. I can't believe it had water and rust. at that point, i would replace the whole fork.

Thanks for the +. Inverted forks are on sport bikes. They do wonders for control on tight, peg scraping turns. But, when the seal blows it dumps for seal oil on the wheel and brakes. Bad news when knee dragging canyon twisties. lol.
