I just got my first classic, a free 1977 Caprice Classic. Just in time for my 18th birthday. I’m loving finally working on an American V8 and carburetor! I got super lucky with the 350 4 barrel too. Video of it on my channel more coming soon.

Nothing creates more random electrical issues than metal shavings in wire harness plugs. To prevent that from happening, clean the threads and after that the whole body/frame, before installing any electrical components.

I have made various tools for my usage also. Felt nice to be able to do it myself and use just stuff laying around. I didn't waste money on a tool that i would only use a couple times and then it would be useless after that. I can always reuse the made-up tool parts for something else too:)

I made the same sort of tool out of a socket for Honda CB175 swingarm nuts over 30 years ago and I still have it! Thanks Davin, you just brought back some great shop memories when I was a boy.

We wish if only there timelapse engine rebuild videos of legendary and iconic Japanese engines. Such as toyota engine 4A-GE, 2JZ, 3SG engine. Or a Honda K20, K24, or B16 engine. Before clearcoating, painting, or plating thread in sacrificial bolts into threaded holes to keep from having to tap later.

Made a lot of specialty tools like that over the years for things I only needed for one or two uses instead of spending big bucks for a Snap on or Mac tool.

I don't like to be a party pooper but being a Limey I guess it goes with the territory. Firstly I must say I enjoy watching Davin do his stuff and explaining in detail How and why things are done. He always takes to time to explain that when dealing with things that can inflict injury when they fly (springs) and burn (welding etc.) its wise to take precaution. I was therefore somewhat surprised to see him with no guard on the milling machine and no protective eyewear. You cannot repair, reuse, recycle your eyes! Also tapping out the holes in the frame/chassis after the loom was installed would surely contaminate any electrical joints? Keep up the good work Davin but please take care!

Knotch a socket wrench for the spanner and then you have two sockets in one, plus it connects to a ratchet already.

I've created at least a dozen of my own spanners and tools. Most were much better than the cheap stamped things offered by consumer parts stores.

These engines are still widely used in South east Asia. It's the most common engine design in Pakistan. Still riding these bikes in Pakistan.

When I was repairing the clutch on my Honda 1100 Goldwing I needed a spanner like you did. Did not have a machine like you so I used a dremel to cut slots in an old socket. Worked fine...................Jay

I got one for free in 1978 when i was 12 years old, so i was a happy kid alright. It ran perfectly because it had almost no miles on it and was a little neglected, so my dad took it to a shop to make everything work as it should, and i did ride on it from dusk to dawn for 4 years. i even could sit backwards and while i rode on it, i ajusted the stationairy screw and then stand upright on the seat so like on a surfboard. Yeah those were one of the best times in my life arlight.

The tap tailings look like orange zest a good bartender would garnish a cocktail with. I don’t recommend using them that way.
