I have an 2001 last year gear cams. I put ABM straight bar on, so comfortable. Also givi windshield and x-tra little screen on top so no wind problem at all. And new D.I.D. chain nickel rated for 1300 . I went up 2 on rear sprocket, oh boy she comes alive. Cruise all day at high speed. Practice practice become one with your bike and it's in your soul and blood. Ohh-raw.

I've got a 2000 with 128 miles on it. I bought it new and shortly thereafter had a significant injury coupled with a diagnosis of an extremely rare disease. I don't want to get rid of it, however I'd be willing to take offers on it. It's in absolutely perfect condition.

I really miss this vfr gen 5. I had to let it go during the lock down here in Greece. Now I run around with my Busa and I'm looking for a xx also. Hondas are so versatile and comfy.

Great review. Just what I need to hear as someone looking to buy. I have watched a lot. Great to hear someone who has owned a vteck and has a good foundation to compare. Thank you for the review. I'm so gonna get me one. God willing. 👆👍👏😁

Thanks for this review. This bike is a true gem, I agree get a low-mileage one as long as you can. I have two right now, I also had a '99. Besides the difference in horsepower I think there is a significant difference between the '98-99 and the '00-01: while the first is a better, more relaxed, smoother tourer, the latter has a much more agile throttle response and can be insanely ridden like hell. It provides so much sensation on top of the stellar engine sound...yes, maybe suspension and the lack of ABS might render this proposition a little dated, but honestly in all other terms this bike is still on par with the current offerings or simetimes even better.

Yes, great to watch this, it's winter now and my bike is snugly tucked away under a tarp waiting for the spring to come. I love the bike and bought it after having ridden the VFR 750F RC24 for about 20 years. Thanks for your onboard review, love your accent, must be Irish, cheers from the Netherlands

I'm proud owner of a 98 VFR 800, and i can say that it's the opposite. MY '98 got a better punch in the midrange. '00-'01 are slightly tamed but they have an huge improvement in fuel consumption ('98 is VERY thirsty). Still a great tourer bike - i'm still using it even for long range trips. I would say it's like a 10 years old bike, not 20 as in the reality.

@@cuoccimix4433 Excellent way to say it. With the grin it always inspires and with the comfort it provides, really makes it feel less dated. Got a low mileage 00' with a roaring exhaust, revalved CBR front suspension, an aftermarket rear shock and steel brake lines really make this bike competitive with the newer bikes. Not shy in the mountain roads and an all day ride type of tourer. Only love love love for this thing.

@@alexmorgan3435 At the final hour (literally) Staintune has been able to secure a sale deal. This will assure the name and more importantly the product, quality and customer support lives on! The Australian based company Torqit www.torqit.com.au of Beresfield NSW, saw the opportunity for Staintune to be able to be incorporated into their production and business plan. The deal was done! Torqit specialize in the innovation, development, manufacture and sale of high quality 304 stainless steel performance 4WD exhaust systems. They also develop and sell throttle control systems and plug in ECU programming tools to get the very best out of your 4WD. I have no doubt in my mind that the team at Torqit have the ability, passion and energy to take the Staintune brand far into the future, bringing in a new era of the iconic STAINTUNE ethos and quality of product! More details of time lines and product availability will follow, we will try to minimize the down time during the exchange as a new facility is set up and put into operation, STAINTUNED for more information. Please share the hell out of this post! Kindest of regards Adam & Sandy Staintune Aust Pty Ltd

Do you think that the vfr could be a beginner friendly bike? I have 2 years of daily riding exp on a scotter. Im a repossible rider ,so I think I can handle the power , what worries me it the weight and the seat height ( I'm 5'8 / 5'9)

Its hard to say and will depend on many factors regarding your experience /skillset/training etc. It may be possible for you to get a test ride from your local Honda dealership albeit on a brand new VFR .

@@NomadAdventureBiker First of all thank you for taking you time to responde. I'm trying to buy a vfr 800 from 1998 . It's cheap and seems the type of bike that you can get good value in terms of experience and money. I will try to arrange a test drive and see if the weight is something that I can handle. Once again thank you for you time.

If u haven't yet tried one for size, I think the only thing that may be a slight issue on longer rides are the relatively high set foot pegs. There are of course peg lowering kits available to solve this if it is uncomfortable for you.

Not, maybe mid-term. My everyday-VFR (`01) has still just some 17.0Tkm on the tacho and I haven`t found any other propositons which would came even just as close in terms of value for the money, performance, reliability and craftmanship...My 2nd VFR(`00) is put aside, annually serviced and conserved. It has just some 9.6Tkm, so I keep it for my retirement or for my sons. It is still relatively easy to get good ones, because demand wise most bikers just do not realise what they miss/overlook, so the prices are still reasonable YET...
