Just as expected. :) The system did not "fail miserably". The radar is designed to detect metallic objects while the camera is designed to identify vehicles and pedestrians. It's not designed to detect animals, trees, plastic garbage bins, or other non-metallic objects that aren't pedestrians.

Well two things: it did miserably fail at stopping for cardboard boxes. 😂 however I guess my misunderstanding of how the system works is to blame. However, I have an idea already for test 2. Will work on that soon.

I watched an official Honda video a couple years ago about this. It showed the system working fine with a cardboard cutout of a pedestrian in front of it. The fact that you imply the truck won't stop if a human steps in front of it is terrifying

When I did my test drive on pre purchase the salesman had me drive on the freeway. At 65 mph the vehicle performed flawlessly before re-ending the car in front and slowed down just fine with 2 car length set. I was freaked out but very satisfied.

If not mistaken the sensor is using camera to detect the object in front, and I believe the program has been code to detect car/people in front and not random objects. Maybe you care try to print a huge car image or just the outer shape of a car and paste it on the boxes. Its a good effort that you choose to do this kind of content to give awareness to people that we cant rely 100% on the technologies it self but it will be better if you can set up a better testing scenarios.

I dosed off while driving and the system saved me from hitting the car in front of me by braking super hard. It’s a sonar based system that only detects dense objects like metal and concrete. It will prevent you from hitting a pedestal or animal too because a flesh body is dense. It will not emergency break on the freeway if you run over a cardboard box as that would be more dangerous that hitting the item.

Ok. I think I have an idea how to go about fooling the system and making it work.

@Gordan Nichols, the CMBS uses a radar and a camera - not sonar. The parking sensors use sonar, but those only work at slow speeds and close distances.

When driving off road on a tall grass/weed overgrown field, the system will beep at you and not apply the brakes. on the highway this system saved me from hitting a car that was stopped, moved forward some then stopped again , I got "enforced" it put the brakes on and stopped short of the car ahead of me.

Something I’ve seen on my ‘21 Passport when using the auto cruise control the silhouette of the car gets filled white when the radar recognizes a car in front to pace. It’s a blank outline when no car is in front or way far ahead. The same with the lane keep assist - the lines are filled or outlined. When you had the auto cruise control on at 25, did the car silhouette for the acc fill white or was it blank? If blank then the crash mitigation might be using the same algorithm for vehicle recognition and not objects or hazards in road. I think I’m okay with this. A wall is not a likely scenario to encounter on the road but usually what stops a vehicle already off course. Someone already fucked up by then. Thanks for the videos! Keep up the great work.

Wow... today heading work a suv cut me off and my Ridgeline slammed the brakes at the point that a knew I was in control, I tried to override the coalition mitigation system from my Ridgeline accelerating but the vehicle didn't follow my action until this guy clears the way.... all that in a fraction of a second, that really impressed me, I was beeping like whennI get inside my garage close to the wall but faster and faster, i didn't heard you system beeping when you got close to the boxes, maybe the distance is not calibrated right, may good idea to check it with the dealer, it supposed to stop. Let us know what happens next. Good video.

The parking sensors that beep when you get too close to a wall in garage are based on ultrasonic sound waves - they operate only at low speeds and short distances. The automatic emergency braking system and adaptive cruise control use radio waves that travel much farther along with a camera to see cars and people. The ultrasonic parking sensors are short-distance, low-speed warning devices only - they won't stop the Ridgeline. Honda recently started using the parking sensors for low-speed automatic emergency braking in the Accord, for example, but the Ridgeline doesn't have this feature.

@@zroger73 I have the Black edition 2021, , I wasn't talking about the brake sensors, I am talking about the collision mitigation sensors in the front bumper, also I have a bull bar that doesn't interfere with the range or anything else and the only thing I can tell you that when I was about to get a collision with that vehicle I did heard a long beep and the Ridgeline applied the brakes for me and stop at the point I couldn't accelerated until this guy move out of my way, what ever it was that in my case works very good I have the range set to the middle not short or far. That impressed me, the vehicle took the control in order to avoid the collision.
@zroger73
@zroger73 2 жыл бұрын
@@07Review, the sensors in the front bumper are the ultrasonic parking sensors - they are not used for the Collision Mitigation Braking System. The CMBS (automatic emergency braking system) uses a radar unit mounted behind the "H" symbol on the grill and a camera behind the windshield.
@07Review
@07Review 2 жыл бұрын
@@zroger73 ohhh.... yes you right... thanks to point it, you r correct, now the thing here is why your vehicle didn't sense and avoid the collision?, lets say if you were driving behind a flatbed truck loaded with cardboard, what would have happen? Probably it must be something wrong with your collision module, If never had experienced that before that would be something to think about or maybe is not calibrated right. Excellent video my friend and good luck with that GBU!!!
@zroger73
@zroger73 2 жыл бұрын
@@07Review, the Ridgeline drove through the boxes because: 1) Cardboard boxes don't reflect radio waves from the radar unit so it can't "see" them, 2) the cardboard boxes don't look like vehicles or pedestrians, so the camera doesn't recognize them as such, 3) the ultrasonic "sonar" parking sensors will detect cardboard boxes, but these sensors are only effective at distances of about 47 inches or less and at speeds of less than 5 MPH. Again, these sensors only detect - they are not connected to any other systems and cannot stop the vehicle. Now, in your example, if you were driving behind a flatbed truck loaded with cardboard boxes, the radar unit would detect the vehicle because the metal that it's made out of would reflect the radar signals - the cardboard boxes are transparent to the radar unit, but the radar would see an empty flatbed truck and apply the brakes.

The system worked on my 2018 crv and we were saved from a horrible horrible rear ending accident a few days ago on a highway. The cars were going fast and I had my foot pressing the gas pedal to speed up and I looked away to the left to see if anyone was on my blindspot so I could change lanes and while my head was turned the cars Infront of me were like dead stopped and before I could even realize that they were stopped the car hit the brakes full on and stopped me before I could even know what happened. I know it was my fault but thank God the collision system worked. however, I have tried to see if it detects my closed garage door and it doesn't. It hits my closed garage door at low speeds of about 3 mph. I never tried full speed towards the closed garage door obviously but at least 3 mph doesn't do anything and hits the door.
