Honduras has historically held a reputation for being one of the most dangerous countries to travel to in the Americas. However, in recent years, a lot has changed. Is Honduras still the violent, corrupt country it used to be? We decided to see for ourselves.
As part of the Pan-American road trip, which started in Canada, Honduras would be the 6th country for the truck. Initially planning to spend a few weeks on our way to Nicaragua, a change of plans would force us to loop around the country, going from the northern border to the Caribbean coast, the southern border, and all the way to the Pacific.

If you're planning on travelling to Honduras you can definitely make a much more streamlined and optimized trip, for us, it was sort of thrown in our lap and we went with it. Overlanding in general is tough in this country, and camping is almost non-existent. But the coffee is good, the people are kind, and there is ample opportunity for some off-road action and wildlife spotting.

I am Honduran and, like my wife, we often feel frustrated that we cannot even separate the waste that we produce since there is no proper handling of it. Thank you for picking up the trash you found on your way through our country! I wish you the best!

I too live in Honduras now, the burning of trash (plastic and all) its everywhere. locals don't seem to realize the consequences of inhaling all that damn plastic.

If more people realize in Honduras that if they clean their streets, cities, oceans, and forests and refrain from a criminal life, they can bring more investments and tourism in their country, improving the lives of many Honduras.

@@jacqueslee2592 You are 100% correct but my people are so shortsighted. I suppose constant hunger, lack of outs contributes greatly to the shortsightedness. In Gracias Adios region I used to plead with the locals to protect our natural gifts; and like you said so that tourists/investors would take interests like in Costa Rica. My reward? getting fired at while helping patrollers remove nets from a lagoon.

A Content Producer from Honduras (now living in the northern US) here, THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH for this delightful documentary, Honduras is a beautiful natural jewel ruled by corruption, unfortunately, but we have a lot to offer for this kind of trips, you missed some really sweet spots but definitely showed a lot more than regular travelers/nomads/content producers do. Yea, I suggest you take a little better care, specially camping about. I caught site of a Machete in your vehicle, sadly vermiscious knids pack heat. I too drive all over Honduras and Nicaragua as I straddle the two countries, but never sleep in my car. Big word of advice to anyone who stumbles on this transmission, ALWAYS PARK YOUR CAR LIKE BANK ROBBERS USED TO, PLEASE! Always have your vehicle ready for a quick get out of Dodge.

I too appreciate you guys sharing the example of keeping our country clean. I too devote time to literally cleaning my block; once a week I grab a bag and clean my block. Two years I been cleaning, I've yet to have a neighbor join me. Perhaps this will be the year I'm joined on this cleaning project.

Night time is dicey. If you do, I would suggest reviewing GPS routes in major cities like SPS and Teguz, because the GPS may send you through a really bad neighborhood. Outside of cities, livestock and other vehicles are the biggest issue.

I hope your return path gets cleared soon my brother; I drove by San Juan Pueblo two days ago. Wonderful people in the area, wonderful people in most of our countries. Just that a few scoundrels ruin it for the masses. I too landed in America when I was 9, stayed 50 years! today I'm truly in paradise loving every moment. America has all to offer good and bad, stay on the good tracks, take full advantage of opportunities and before you know it; you'll start visiting home and someday decide to do like me. PEACE,

I traveled through Honduras and Guatemala about 20 years ago. All but one place was safe. The people were nice and it was beautiful. The one place we were unsafe a lady rushed out, told us to get inside her business and wait for the next bus. She told us Americans weren't welcomed there and we would be attacked. She took care of us and got us on the next bus. Enjoy your trip and be safe.

I just got back from Guatemala 🇬🇹 city, like all cities it has its good zones & bad, but it can definitely be dangerous if you get lost and don’t know where you are. My advice is to stay away from the city and go to touristy places like Antigua or Tikal & don’t got out at night

I'm only just came across your channel but yall were in Honduras at the same time as i was, it was my first time back in a bit more then 10 years, with all honesty yall missed a lot of good places to visit, thanks for trying to keep my country clean, its definitely a struggle between bad habits and the government, the new government is trying to fish many of the problem with the roads and other problems you encounter but due to lack of budget and man power, its definitely something that will continue to be present for a while, thanks for doing my Country a favor!

Thanks for making this nice video about my country, i could only wish it was a more ideal place for a better experience for you guys, the government has really put everything in shambles, poverty, drug smuggling, gang violence, lack of education, etc. I left the country over 20 years ago and whenever i visit all I feel is a profound sadness because it seems things just keep moving backwards over there, growing up there as a child I have nothing but my best memories, Honduras was never a rich country but at least it was safe and most importantly we were happy. Greedy politicians in power would do anything for that coke money. I can only hope for things to improve. btw you guys have big balls for camping out there in the wild!

"The government has really put things in shambles" Everyone seems to play their part in the lack of progress, corrupt actions are partaken in by the 5 year old and up. nearly everyone side steps taxes at every opportunity. Others mismanage/waste national resources, in the end WE ALL LOSE. The most selfless politician I've ever witnessed in life has just been retired; the man changed the trajectory of El Salvador, let's hope the new presidenta continues with his forward thinking approach. The great Bukele shared concepts with his sister countries, I'm still waiting to see results. Don't stay away too long, the country is improving on many levels.

Guys, I love the outdoors and have been part of it since my childhood in Scouts. We were taught, what you bring in you take out. No garbage. Don't blame politicians. Garbage is created and managed by each one of us and not respecting nature is on the person. And like you, I find myself picking up garbage on my daily walks by people who just don't care. Anyway, nice vid. Glad you both safe.

They were blaming the politicians because you could take the garbage out with you, but there was nowhere to take it after that, no effective disposal infrastructure, unregulated garbage transport, no public dump points, etc.

First time seeing your videos, the title drew me in, I love Honduras🇭🇳. I stayed there up in the mountains near San Antonio de Cortes. I can't imagine not having them as a guide/protection. They kept their head on a swivel when they took us to town. People did get killed near where we were. Sadly the trash is out of control, I tried to get the kids to stop throwing their trash on the ground😢. You see men, women and children do things like fill potholes in the road,of which there are many, (probably what caused your vehicle issues), hoping that you'll toss them a dollar or two. The country and people are beautiful, I think you captured some of that, and also your many skills are impressive, great content, life doesn't always go smoothly and you portrayed more than just the Instagram worthy shots.

Hello My name is John. I've lived in Honduras for over 11 years now . presently in the mountains. I liked your video. I'm sorry that no one told you that the beach areas of La Ceiba are not the best places in Honduras. the beach town of Tela is much smaller but much better. It is typical for the locals to say that their area is extremely dangerous and they fear for foreigners safety. I've traveled into the most dangerous areas of Honduras to do Humanitarian work and I never had trouble but precaution is necessary. Camping is almost unheard of in Honduras so unfortunately, there aren't many places to stay. I really liked your vehicle. I wish I had that for my work in the mountains . that is one heavy duty vehicle.

I'm from Honduras but I live in Europe for 18 years now. I recently visited Honduras again and I was shocked how destroyed the whole country was. It never got better at all, it only got worse. And a lot! I'm never going back to my home country again😢

Yeah I'm originally from Eastern Europe, and when I went back to visit my grandparents it was also a true culture shock how the country had deteriorated! Poverty and high-level political corruption really lets infrastructure deteriorate.

Very cool trip & honestly very brave to pull it off. One thing i will say that is incorrect, not all water in Central America is not drinkable; Costa Rica's water supply is very drinkable in most parts of the country.

Much of that corruption was also caused by US. US has a military base there and continues to support the narco government.

Awesome video! Informative and great shots. One suggestion would be to mix your voiceover a little louder against some of the music. Made it hard to hear sometimes. Keep it up!

It's important to approach traveling to other countries with thorough research and understanding. Camping in someone's neighborhood without permission in a place like Honduras can be risky, as some towns are controlled by cartels and gangs, and locals often have to pay them taxes. The way you explored and camped with your girlfriend was certainly daring, considering the potential dangers involved. In such situations, the unpredictable can happen, and it might be challenging for anyone to find out. As someone who was born there, even my own family members would hesitate to undertake what you've done. These circumstances also raise questions about privilege and the different experiences people encounter while traveling.

You bring up a very valid point actually. In our experience, and from everyone who's doing a similar trip, it does seem foreigners do have the privilege of being somewhat protected (not to say it's completely safe).

Great, honest information that can be used from your adventure, thanks. Central America is beautiful, most people are honest and peaceful. After saying that, most crimes are committed by people who lived in extreme poverty and lots of time with many children to be raised. If you want to adventure into any Central American country, please, don’t go alone. Find a local guide, there are many available and for an affordable fee you will enjoy your experience without the hesitation of going or not going somewhere there. The guide will protect you and himself. I have a comment about the background music, it’s a bit too loud and hard to understand what you say. Thanks again.👍

"Honduras looks brutal" It's an extremely beautiful land, I drive it regularly for fun (the coastal region that is, Colon, Gracias a Dios, Lloro, Atlantida, Cortez but only her coastal areas).

Hey bud just like some of your viewers I'm as well from Honduras. If people are traveling to Honduras I recommend Comayagua. It has a lot of Spanish influence. You will see amazing coffee shops. The people are super friendly and the weather is Ideal especial in the morning and evening. A lot of people like to visit the coastline near Tela, Ceiba but it can get extremely hot. Roatan is beautiful but the island has too many real-estate foreigners with over price properties that the locals can't afford. As much as it pains me to say avoid Progreso and San Pedro Sula especially barrio Cabanas. It can rain bullets if you know what I mean. If you are a traveler seeker don't go unless you have a someone trust worthy with you. People will tell you to come to Honduras but they are full of crap, blind or lucky. Back 25 to 30 years ago Honduras was a beautiful calm country. There was no such violence. Heck its shocking that el Salvador is a safer place now thanks to their new president.

I agree with you, it’s the truth. Some people don’t like President Nayib Bukele, too bad! Most people do t know that El Salvador was absolutely destroyed, first by corrupt…. Everyone that had access to the country’s treasury, oh yeah! The maras had complete control of the country. Murders were in everyday menu, not kidding. Government looked the other way as long as they were NOT BOTHERED. Few years ago natives that got out of the country in late 70’s to early 90’s wouldn’t dare to go back. I didn’t blame them. Now, I have talked to some people that went there and….. were able to come back😃 Yes, it was that bad! And they were amazed of the very positive changes that President Bukele is making. American, here. I lived in Hondo for 8 years. I will NEVER go back. I made great friends there, had great food, wonderful experiences, played in a band, graduated from high school, met my wife, learned to scuba dive, etc. But this country is SO corrupt and dangerous, for a while it was more deadly than Afghanistan and was the world's most dangerous place in terms of murders. And the worst part is that much of the riff raff that makes it so bad now comes to the US to corrupt our country as well. When I lived there, there was literally a scheme at the airport that would inform bandits of potential high rollers that had just arrived, who would then rob these visitors just down the road from the airport. If there was a way to go to Copan and the Bay Islands without having to set foot in the mainland (this might already exist), it would be a start.

@@goaloneTV Been there. Had to do my tranny rad and cooler 2 months ago. Now just a power steering pump and tie Rod ends. Alaska seems to as remote as anywhere else lol. Especially when you get the pump and it’s the wrong one. 🤦‍♂️

I stayed in Campamento for a month. Yes the crime is no joke but I honestly never saw anything concerning or anything to make me regret my decision to go, in fact I with I had stayed longer as it is a naturally beautiful country and the locals are very kind and hospitable ❤

@@ravenoverlanding I use a Yeti mic, one of the standard black ones I'm not sure the model, picked it up in a mall in Guatemala. Then I just use the voice recorder that comes with windows. Toughest part is usually different parts of the voice overs are recorded in different hotels and such as we move and there's echo and all sorts of stuff. So I manually go through the clips and adjust the audio. Davinci also has a bunch of great effects like multi band compressor and de essor and whatnot. Just search how to make your voice overs sound better on yt and there's lots of good material
