Centipede at the arcade was so much fun as a kid.

They really should stop mixing horizontal and vert games, it makes more sense to keep them on cabs with the correct screen orientations.

This is my favourite cab so far. I’m hooked on Tempest. I just got 160k. I love it.

I'm amazed they got Akka Arrh, the legendary prototype game that was only location-tested on a total of three units but never released, on this very unit.

i was able to fix my stock spinner by disassembling it and cleaning the bearings with WD40. I can spin the spinner, go get a drink, come back, and the spinner is still turning. The stock spinner is actually really good if you unfoul the bearings.

You know, there is just nothing like standing in front of a quality cabinet. While I don't shy away from couch play or emulation, I just can't get enough of my lone standup cabinet. It tickles that nostalgia in just the right spots.

Nice real world review. 1up needs to do rotatable monitors like the Atgames cabinets. Pull off bezel and monitor, rotate 90deg and snap back in. Kinda a must have for 70s, 80s arcade cabs. Or only include vertical or horizontal games to match monitor, 30-40 games, vs 10-12 games they do now.

I’d love if 1up came out with an Atari Black Widow. That was an awesome game which actually was a conversion kit back in the day for Gravitar cabinets, since Gravitar was not a hit.

Just ordered the Couchcade version of this one, hope it performs as well as yours did for this review. Can't understand how this Cabinet version has the Missile Command buttons so wrong. The Couchcade just has three buttons in a line but they are to the left of the trackball where they have to be to mimic the arcade version. This review has me seriously considering sending a request to Arcade1Up (with an accompanying pile of cash) to rework the button placement to be similar to the original arcade format. Great review, really enjoyed it and very gratified that this cabinet performed so well for you.

Love the channel. Thanks for this review. The cabinet looks great (sorry about the minor shipping damage man!). I bought the original 12 in 1 and really like it and actually prefer its game line up over this release due to Lunar Lander being included in the 12 in 1 Deluxe, but they're close game-wise. This cabinet caught my eye as the improved menu and settings are a nice plus. However, seeing that Missile Command and Asteroids are my all time favorite arcade games the button layout kills this for me unless I wanted to do up a custom control panel to correct that. Also, I have previously contacted Arcade 1 Up about this...but I'm hoping for a Cinematronics cabinet with Star Castle at some point.

Walmart has the cabinet w/o the 13" base for $199. I'll make my own. :) Seems like a great price. Nice review, Erik, you gave me incentive to buy. The last time I really played Centipede, Asteroids and Millipede was in the early 80s when I was in the USAF. :)

Thanks for the great review Erik. For the amount of money these cabinets cost, you'd have thought they'd just included an extra button on the left side, instead of fudging with the P2 button.

I have the GRS spinner for my Asteroids cabinet and the TurboTwist2 on my Atari 12 in 1. The sensitivity for the stock spinner for the Atari Legacy is more arcade accurate than the GRS spinner; I can play pretty well with it. I did spinner sensitivity tests for all three spinners; the GRS spinner is way too sensitive. I would have also preferred a vertical monitor, but I do like how Tempest looks. The aspect ratio is correct.

Major Havoc should use the Spinner…that’s how I remember playing it as a kid. I was intimidated & mesmerized by this game…and now on my ATARI VCS-800 with its 🕹Spinner Classic🕹 have been able to get very, very far into the game. Major Havoc was/is so difficult like Gravitar…they are Gamer’s Games and just brilliant ATARI arcade games.

I bought this based on the Review! I got it a week ago from Walmart..$199.99... no riser included... Awesome Cabinet...I am becoming a Millepede Master... But I think I'm gonna have to oil my trackball... Notice it not wanting to move right... No ball bearings... Apparently 3 metal rods with gear spinners. Definitely my favorite cabinet !!! Highly Recommend.

I don't understand why they wouldn't use the spinner for Major Havoc instead of the trackball. The original has a two-way roller, but the conversion kits, which usually went into Tempest cabinets, used the spinner control.

I loved playing Tempest in the Circus Manor back in early 80s. Played it and played it. They didn’t maintain the spinner and it had that whirrrrr. Don’t like the sound the spinner makes on your cab. Appreciate that you are honest about the arcade wear.

I have been lucky of late..... The STAR WARS / PACMAN LEG / MKII LEG all came perfectly.... Cab and Comp's all in perfect shape...... ATARI LEG came.... A few very very small blemishes... Nothing anyone would even notice.... Guess I only noticed bacause I had to put it together.... Then the audio issue.... Cab was fully put together and back plate screwed on (which I never due until I have powered the thing up and all is good). Audio issue was... well, very lower audio through only one speaker... UGH! But got lucky... Just had to get into the back and re-seat the audio plug.... FIXED! Have to say, that is is one of the best cab's to date.... With the exception of that Missile Command button thing.... No reason that they couldn't add the additional button to give you 3 right / 3 left....

IMO, Arcade1up is finally hitting the mark with the right balance of cost/build quality/aesthetics with the recent crop of multigame cabinets Having followed vintage gaming and the emulation scene since the mid 90s with the first releases of DOS Mame, ColEM, and similar arcade/console emulators, I think these machines hit the sweet spot re: looks, size, game selection and cost. Appears they are made of 1/2" MDF, just right for home use. Glad they didn't go particle board The first 1up machines or similar from other vendors were too big or too costly vs the game selection for home use. Many of us would like to own many vintage arcade machines, but the size, weight, power draw and maintenance issues are just too much. Yes, we could use basements or garages, but just too much hassle and WAF to overcome. The downscaled cabinets with lighted marquees and appropriate mix of 10+ games with correct controls (spinner/tracball/sticks/etc) for game selections makes it feasible for most vintage enthusiasts for own several of these to get that arcade look and feel in a room or basement of a typical house. I started building a 1:1 scale Defender replica with 3/4" MDF around 2008, but it still isn't completed. By the time all the materials, controls, computer, software, electrical, artwork and labor is done, you've expended far more time effort and money vs getting several of these. Or a used one and putting is an Rpi or PC with Emu loads I still plan to complete my Defender replica, as the cabinet is physically done, still need to make bezel, but bought replica side art and bezel art. Plan is to have 2 or 3 DIY's and several 1up low profile Partycades for my basement arcade.

Just put mine together. Whew!😅 1st The authentic arcade game wear-doesn’t bother me at all. 2nd I think the spinner is better it feels good, gameplay is good feels alright, your spinner seems to spin longer and faster than mine. Yours and mine have a little wobble, not a big deal to me. Like I said gameplay feels good. Might opt for the heavier spinner in the future at some point just to check it out. Edit: As predicted, my spinner only spins 1 to 1 1/2 times vs yours at 3. BUT, if I remember correctly from back in the day (a few decades ago) even with the real arcade that happened with spinners. Some were thicker than others. Again, not a big deal for me but, I will get the off market spinner just to see.

Glad you were able to get this one. Mine was sold out from under me, by GameStop, who later blamed Arcade1up, for not sending enough, as their excuse as to why mine never showed up, after waiting, since January. I had to call the bank, and stop payment on it, this week. Just checked Walmart. It's not their. Maybe it's only available in store, or you're in Canada. By the way, I think you'll find the GRS spinner will NOT function correctly in this cabinet. I tried to put one in an Asteroids Party Cade, and it didn't work. But it did have the same new spinner, which is in your Tempest cab. Oh well. I still have my Atari 12-in-1. maybe Tempest will be one of those cabs that's "evergreen", for a while. Sorry to see the "authentic arcade wear" detailing they provided. LOL :)

I have 3 cabs(Pacman Legacy, NBA JAM, TMNT) and barely play. Basically turn on at night for room ambience and background noise. ...this one caught my eye though. It's the arcade machine Reggie is playing at beginning of Night Of The Comet. ...which if you're old like me, is pretty sweet. Lol...btw, you look like Doyle Bramhall.

My bezel came with some weird damage, but other than a warranty claim, I only had to flip around that crap-tacular coin door sticker to better black for now. Ordering a decal to fix that problem from Arcade Graphix.

I have the original 12 in 1 and just got this one in the mail. Pretty much the way the cab looks is why I got what is essentially the same cab. But I wish they kept lunar lander instead space duel though

The raw number of games included should increase, which should be as many as possible IMO, 10 min, though 30-60 is a nice range of similar-control games. BEsides the number and accuracy quality of the games, 1up needs to start adding custom 80s style arcade games available only on specific cabs, and/or add new levels to classics. Ensure the orgonal levels are code accurate, but also add new levels based on original code and gfx- ie more PAcMAn/Ms PAcman mazes with new obstacles and ghost beviors to learn, new RallyX mazes with different gfx and enemies and tricks, etc.

Not sure- but methinks I'm detecting a hint, ever so small though it may be, of sarcasm. ;)

Coin door graphic kinda cheesy, but gets the atmosphere right. Should include ability to knockout and add real coin door. 1up branded tokens would be nice, though using real vintage tokens from early 80s arcade even better ;) Props to 1up for standard lighted marquee's on recent machines Would like to see more emulation options though, ie a Settings page that allows options for scanlines and similar retro-look/emu stuff

I have an original Tempest. I've played the game retrofitted with an LCD monitor, and the picture looked terrible compared to the color vector monitor. It took a massive amount of the appeal away. I've also found the same for raster monitor games, they look significantly better on an retro CRT monitor. I've outfitted my MAME multi-game cabinets with classic CRT monitors and original controls. That said, this machine looks better than some of the other 1Up machines I've seen. The controls seem improved. I'm curious why they didn't keep the extra button on the left side for Missile Command instead of expecting the player to play it with backwards controls? They could have made the player 1 button double as hyperspace for Asteroids as it's away from the other controls anyway. The game selection looks pretty good. It's reasonably affordable at $350. I'm probably going to have to pay someone a couple hundred dollars to fix my Tempest PCB again, and I had the monitor repaired a few years back. No doubt operational costs of the originals is higher. I think the best thing about these 1Up's is you can probably fit them in a larger regular car, and you probably don't have to get a friend to help move it. I think they should have provided a black trackball to better blend in with the cabinet as it's supposed to look like Tempest, and would have been better to not see a beige trackball jump out when you quickly look at the cabinet. The game selection is excellent I must say. I love all those titles. I also have a color VectorMAME in a Space Duel cabinet and a b&w VectorMAME in an Asteroids cabinet running the original vector monitors for authentic look, and the original controls for most games, and interchangable panels too or planned on most of my MAME machines which I prefer to over crowding control panels or changing the position where the controls should be placed.

Well I’m finalizing starting to accept that arcade 1up buyers are more lenient on what is “Acceptable”. Scratches and peeling on graphics on a new cab, controls on Missile Command off, the aspect ratio on centipede and millipede way off. Only a few issues with a 1up is nothing to complain about I guess.

I have 3 cabs by A1Up. I like them all. A lot of fav coin op games i always enjoyed playing ( i picked my spots carefully), but even with these slight improvements they still need to step up their "game" pun intended. Love the look of this Atari Leg cab but can't get passed the improper screen ratio for most games on the list.. especially Centipede and Millipede..Improper button layout for Missile Command etc. I'm pretty much done purchasing cabs from them. Still cool seeing you guys mess with yours though. If they ever do a Donkey Kong cab release...i will be back! lol

I think that the centipede 1up is about the same as the tempest 1up , I can't find centipede 1up no where ,so I'm going to get tempest. From this review I think this tempest 1up will be good for me.

It's fantastic! Spot on! Donno why alot of gamers put down Space Duel. That's bad ass, play as much as TEMPEST.

I have no qualms about the quality of the cabinet filled or the Marquis. There are some issues with the emulation. In both versions of asteroids and asteroids Deluxe, your shots and that of the saucers are both very bright so they attract attention, here they're just very hard to see. Also the motion of your shots is rather wrong, especially when you do hunting small saucer with one or two small asteroid onscreen. It's supposed to drop the shots nearly behind you and they're supposed to drift off in a tight pattern and here they don't, very disappointed. I'm not sure how they messed this up supposedly they're using the original ROMs for this. Trackball is actually a slave Improvement for Missile Command is some of the larger ones use that really large black trackball in it's very hard to handle if you have smaller hands like most people do. So the Improvement. I wholeheartedly agree though with your assessment do of the buttons for firing from your bases when you're using your left hand for that. Major Havoc should use the spinner not the trackball. This is obvious because major Havoc was retooled Tempest machine with new ROMs

It seems the 3:4 aspect games that are rasterized are too wide, the Tempest is proper. It looks narrow due to the overly-wide "Pedes".

Yeah you can tell their testing is minimal. No way the Defender 40th would have been made with smart bombs being almost unusable had they done sufficient testing.

At $315 now without the riser at Walmart, although I found online deals from last year where it went for about $250 with the riser during a sale. But either way, I like what Arcade1Up is finally doing with their new cabinets adding WiFi and Global Scoring Boards through the internet -- so I will wait. That feature of head to head online gaming (in their new Street Fighter and perhaps other games) and the global top score tables is worth the extra $ to me for updated cabinets. I do wonder why a true vector graphics monitor is not viable for retro asteroids, tempest, battle zone, etc type games. Can anyone make such a cabinet? Would the tech be too expensive? I’m having a tough time deciding something. I have 3 arcade 1up cabs and loving them. I love the arcade idea and look of the cabs. Then I read about the legends ultimate adding 1000 games etc with coinopsx but apparently high scores don’t save. I have had the experience of having thousands of games and then don’t play any much but I am wondering if I made the right decision with arcade 1up or should I look at legends ultimate. Either I won’t have all my favourites but will have an arcade atmosphere and get excited about new cabs like Tron or buy the one and I’m done and have all the games but not the look I want . Thoughts ?

I got mine from Walmart too. It's good to know yours is just as bad shape as mine is from Walmart. Even the box shape is bad lol.

I freaking hate spinner wobble. Spinners should be solid and weighty and sensitivity should be adjustable in the settings. The A1U Trackballs don't seem bad, OTOH. The Legends Gamer and X-Arcade Joysticks have adequate trackballs, also. On Asteroids, I prefer joystick control which is enabled in my MAME Cab. For Asteroids, I never really memorized the button layout in the Arcade version as a kid. I more preferred the Atari 2600 version as far as controls and unlimited plays at home were free for a 9-year-old on an absolute budget at that time. The Vectrex clone of Asteroids 'Minestorm' was absolutely perfect in that regard, though. I own a Vectrex. Sometimes, I think these A1U's simulation and emulation of old machines isn't even close to 'TRUE' because I've played all of these when I was coming up in age and later as a teenager. Authenticity and Preservation of the games and experience is important to me and A1U hasn't quite gotten there yet, IMO. However, I'm a big fan of the A1U Star Wars. It's pretty much a good interpretation. Yeah, some guys like great-looking game rooms with these modern cabs and there is nothing wrong with that. In my game room video, you'll notice that I have a lot of original hardware (and vintage computers) from back in the day. GREAT VIDEO! Cheers!

Any issues with asteroids with the 2 buttons on the left being a bit far apart compared to the arcade ? Usually I used the 2nd and third fingers but maybe 2nd and 4th bow ? Love this cab and nice review !

Just got this cab and very disappointed the astroids has two lazer sounds instead of one when you fire just does not feel right at all can anyone confirm this I'm hoping its a bad pcb cause this is not good😣 may return🤧

How do the tempest graphics look compared to the vector graphics ? For some reason; I find non-vector style tempest so boring but the glowing neon vector graphics seem to keep me interested. Do they have a neon "glow" like the original? It's hard to tell on camera. Thanks./

I bought one of these last week. The trackball was total garbage. Centipede, Millipede, and all the other trackball-oriented games were mostly unplayable. Tempest did play well thanks to the spinner. Asteroids/Asteroids Deluxe/Gravitar/Space War played well, only because they didn't use the awful trackball. I wound up returning the whole thing to Wal-Mart. A huge disappointment. Arcade 1UP customer support was awful, which is why returning it to Wal-Mart was such an easy decision to make. That's too bad, because I really enjoyed Tempest.

So now that you’ve had it for 9 months, is it worth $450 for someone n the fence about it? Any issues?
