I had the same thought. If the melee was going to be this repetitive, then the least they could do was add some additional melee weapons. But nah, that would require some effort, which this game seems to lack. Its so odd that for a game that relies so heavily on melee they give you only one melee weapon, while they give you multiple firearms but so limited ammo. It makes ZERO sense. Its like they DON'T want you to have any fun, only frustration.

@@paranoyd70 It's a classic survival horror trope of exploiting melee combat or first level guns to preserve ammo for your main weapons, a derivative of item management. Used to do that A LOT in The Evil Within, Cry of Fear and Bioshock. It can be good, as it encourages your tactical thinking, but only if the correct gameplay balance is preserved. It's evident that this is what they've had in mind developing this game, but they've completely broken the balance, giving you basically a hack n' slash shooter, which sounds good, but means that none of those things are seeing their full potential.

I honestly feel like alien isolation did what Callisto wanted to do but better in alien isolation you feel hunted scared and stalked by an alien it’s genuine horror

First time was a pain, cue me turning it off at third encounter, seriously people there's so much potential for different mini bosses

@@Normandy1998 You could tell that they were either running out of time or out of ideas. NOBODY thinks it's a good thing to recycle the same onehit boss monster four times. It's just really poor design.

that very end got me into full on hysteria. I was yelling "what" non stop followed by laughing psychotically. i couldnt believe it. the worst part is, i was liking the game a lot up until that point.

Exactly this. I know why i felt no tension tho... The melee combat makes the enemies into jokes once you learn it fully and sucks all the tension out of the game as soon as you figure out that this is just how all enemies in the game will function (minus the robots)

I also got it for Christmas, almost done with it (I think) and I'm gonna be honest with ya... It is so damn frustrating to the point that I'm getting more less scared of this game! Hell I'm enjoying Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion (which I also got for Christmas) morethan The Callisto Protocol and that's just a freakin remaster of PSP that came out back in 2008!!

@@thefirstofthelastones8952 it switches between boring and frustrating for me. Enemies are either real easy or somehow bullet sponges and the final boss became more tedious then engaging and once I somehow triggered the final cutscene I was relieved I was finished it.

So I (finally) beat The Callisto Protocol and I'm just gonna say it, if I finished this game back in December I would've put it on the crappy section of "2022 games I've played" because how the f**k you gonna make a horror game but make it so damn boring and frustrating instead of horrifying!? That's like making a shooting game but with no aiming or a action RPG but with no lock on or a fighting game with no blocking! If you wanna play a real horror game, play the first three Resident Evil remakes!... Which I'm currently playing to get ready for the Resident Evil 4 remake.

I dont understand how so many people got mad at the combat system is the easiest in any game to master the dodge as well. Im not joking i share the same opinion of John Wolfe about the combat system.

You’re supposed to dread encountering these monsters knowing they come close to me they’re gonna wreck me . Here you’re just fighting animations more then you enemies lol

@@sirmrguitardude Definitely one of their staff played on launch day beaten it and see no reason to replay it like 90% of people that bought the game. Literally no reason to play just cause they added skip button 2 weeks after release in a game with little to no replayability lol.

Yes. It really is. I just feel this game handled it all very poorly

Spent about the same(convertion n' stuff) 1 day before launch, went to sleep, woke up next day and before going to work saw the reviews on Steam "oh boy what the hell", saw some topics on the community board, saw some videos about it, played and fiddled with it a bit before the 2 hours limit then "yep, refund it is" haha

Aw man. Physically hurt my heart to read that. It looks like such an amazing game. People ask for way too much from games nowadays. I was happy with 20 fps slideshows of people whose hands were blocks when I was a kid

@@achronicblunt I grew up with Intellivision, NES, etc so I understand where you're coming from. I also love a lot of underrated (current) games, but this is not one of those.

Always tell them. If they really cared, they kept the receipt for you. When I was a kid, my mother picked up a game I'd already rented and didn't like, because she mistakenly thought I'd enjoyed it. I told her, she'd kept the receipt, and what would've been one lousy present turned into *_five_* amazing ones when I returned it for store credit during a boxing day sale.
