Beirut, Lebanon ➖ After a quick trip to Dubai, I found myself returning to Lebanon with a full beard! As much as I love looking 28 and shocking people when revealing to people my real age of 21, it was time for the beard to go.
My friend Uptin recently got a shave from Fawaz at Phil & Joe's Barbershop, so I decided to check them out and get a proper makeover. With my last makeover costing 500,000 Lebanese Lira, I decided to give Fawaz a little reward for the clean-cut and shave he gave me.

@@panathasg13 don't say that.. in most countries discretion is standard when handing or receiving money. You never know who might be watching you and try to take advantage of you. Especially in such developing countries where $100 is smth you might get robbed or killed for. Not every country is like the US where KZfaqrs can run around giving away 1000 bucks and you scream it out and show it everybody around lmao

Luke paid 180K LBP at the register, which was $9 USD at the current exchange rate. Tipping the barber $100 in cash was comparable to two months salary in Lebanon these days.

Today lebanon is in crisis , the black market you don't care about is what rules every singke tiny or big shop, business, education system or whatever . And tbh, that black market doesn't even care about you either, be grateful and if you got something nice to say pls do, if not , enjoy the video with silence you in denial.

Do you know if its safe to visit right now? I'd like to visit for a while. What's the normal price in usd that the barber quoted? Sorry I'm asking all these questions here but I've no idea. He said 100 or 200k? Is that like 5 dollars?

@@HotdogSosage the cut was for 180k which is approximatly 9$ (the $ rate is 20000 leb lira) and even that is a bit expensive considering he went to like a fancy and big barbershop , if you go to like small and smaller one you could get it for like 50k which is about 2.5$ . Now is lebanon safe? in normal days yes its safe but i wouldnt recommend coming here soon because a lot is happening lately like the heavy deadly clash that happened in tayouneh few days ago. Maybe just wait for now and if things get a little bit stable then yeah id definitely recommend coming here its a great country and its very cheap for foreigners. Peace

Hey Luke. It brought tears to my eyes as I watched your transformation. In fact I lost my baby brother who was a very skillful men's barber just like this gentleman. And what a generous reward he got. I watched you from Sweden where I moved to as refugee back in '87. I'll subscribe to your channel. Visit Armenia. My parent's origin homeland who were also survivors of ww1 who were welcome as orphans by our dear 2nd homeland Lebanon. I'm a 3rd generation born there. Stay safe son. A motherly advice though. I've been told that smoking water pipe for 20 minutes is equal to more than 50 cigarettes.

I almost moved to Beirut 12 years ago to get married but it fell through due to legal issues passport etc.etc. but I absolutely am going 2 move to the middle east at some point in my life! I've always felt a sense of belonging & connection with the culture,people language,& traditions. Love to all my Brothers & Sisters!

As an Australian of Lebanese background I can't recommend it enough. For such a small country, Lebanon sure has a lot packed into it. Always try to have a guide or someone familiar with area as this will make the trip much smoother!
