Jonghyun made the lyrics thinking about the moon, 6.23 is the date of a super moon in the year that he wrote. It's basically a love letter to the moon itself, he wanted to express the anguish of love something you can't reach. Also, Selene is a god related to the moon in the greek mythology. Since 2013, the moon has been connected to Jonghyun bc he would constantly wrote about or mention it

Selene 6.23 is a very personal song by Jonghyun. It happened when he was watching a full moon in June 23th, a "super-moon", hence the numbers of the date with the title.Selene 6.23 quickly reached the #1 spots on music charts like Olleh Music, Mnet, Bugs and Naver Music. The Hangul of this song title translates into "The Distance Between Us" in English, while "Selene" means "moon" in Greek, coming from the name of an ancient lunar goddess. He was insipired by the moon, the members and the fandom as muse, and and wrote the lyrics on the spot. The draft is even now on Exhibition at SHINee section in SM. It shows his exceptional skills in song writing, even though the draft looks like a scratch from a school book. Later in August that year the song was released with their album, and the arrangement assisted by Yiruma. And SHINee's vocals are so individually unique, but sooo magical together!! This song is very emotional to SHINee hyungs up untill today.

Every April, KZfaq gets flooded with heartfelt videos about Jonghyun, including cover videos of "Selene 6.23". Even though I'm not a SHINee fan, watching those videos makes my heart both warm and sore at the same time. I can confidently say that even if you weren't a fan, anyone in Korea who lived through the SHINee era still remembers and misses Jonghyun - and that's no overstatement. SHINee was a significant part of our childhood, a massive part of our memories, and Jonghyun was someone who was deeply loved. More than just his magnetic stage presence, he was someone who radiated warmth, kindness, and comfort. Through his radio shows and his music, he reached out and brought comfort to so many, and his music continues to offer solace to many people today. l just really hope Jonghyun knows how much he's still missed and loved by so many, and maybe that's why this song and lyrics feel so poignant

This song is about "the endless longing for someone you can't reach", metaphorically described as 'the desperate love for a moon that can't be reached'' So, the name 'Selene' is from the Greek-Roman goddess of the moon, and 6.23 refers to the date of the supermoon back in 2013. The Korean title is '너와 나의 거리,' which translates to 'The Distance Between You and Me' in English."

Selene 6.23 is technically NOT a b-side. it's the title track of the Misconception of us album, but it didn't have an MV. they DID promote it in music shows. Jonghyun was inspired to write this during the super moon that was on June 23rd, hence the name.

It's nice to see you're starting to actually appreciate shinee's vocals especially Jonghyun's! Means a lot because I feel like his vocals are so underrated nowadays as new kpop stans tend to listen less to those 2nd gen b-sides. Hope you'll check out more of his solo songs too, he wrote almost all of his songs!

This song is from their album Misconceptions of Us which was chosen top 4 best korean albums of the 2000s. Cover art was done by Key and Jonghyun has composing and lyrics credits of several of the songs. It's truly a masterpiece and one of their best works 💎

Fun fact about the title, in English it refers to the moon with the word Selene (bc that’s what Romans would call the personification of the moon as a goddess) and 6.23 refers to the date bc jonghyun was inspired by a summer moon. In Korean it literally translates to: the distance between you and me. So it began as a song for the moon but later jonghyun said it was a song for international shawols, because of the distance between us:(

Jonghyun's inspiration for this song was the moon.. actually supermoon which happened in June 23 that year the song was written). Hence the title Selene 6.23 (Selene is the goddess of moon in Greek mythology). Eventually SHINee said this is more for the international shawols since they are farther (in distance). There's another live from SWC3.. that one is very beautiful as shawols were singing with them. Through the years this has sort of become one of shawols anthems especially after Jonghyun's passing as some of the lyrics seem to speak about us trying to reach him but no answer

Selene means moon in Greek. 6.23 means June 23rd 2013 -> when there was a Supermoon phenomenon that only can be seen every 19 years. I copy from google. So basically it's a song about one sided love with the moon as comparison.

Selene is a name used for the Moon (a goddess in some cultures I think), and I think 6.23 is a date for a lunar eclipse or supermoon or something moon-related that Jonghyun experienced, which was the inspiration for the lyrics. Jonghyun's persona is often associated with the moon among Shawols. The song is about seeing something beautiful that is always out of reach no matter how hard you try, like the Moon. It's meaning has a bittersweet tinge these days given what happened with Jonghyun. I believe it was one of Onew's favorite songs, and he sang a duet of it during a variety show. Sorry I don't know more details, but I'm sure others could fill them in.

Jonghyun wrote the song after looking at the moon (Selene is the goddess of the moon) during the "supermoon", when the Moon comes the closest to the Earth. 6.23 was the date of the event. He uses the methaphore of Earth and Moon being always close, but never together, to express the longing for someone we can't reach. It's become a very important song for Shawols and SHINee members. We all know who they think about when they sing this song.

You should watch onew singing this song after we lost Jonghyun. God, it makes me choke every time 😢❤️ who has been a long time fan of shinee can understand the bittersweet feeling of this song. It is one of my favorites. I love all my boys for 12 years. All five of them.

6.23 means the day the supermoon was on June 23, 2013. Jonghyun wrote about his heart that the moon and the earth are closest to each other, but he still can't reach the moon. So "You" in this song is actually the moon. I hope the tranalating is right.😊
