Hi, welcome back!
& if you’re new to my channel, welcome to my kind of economical.
A summation of what this channel is about:
= cute a** dogs + 4everworkinprogress me + handywoman diaries + unfilteredthoughts + learn with me.
At 30, I quit my post-bachelors forensic economist job and enrolled in trade school.
I started with not knowing what a laser level is or how plumbing works to starting a handywoman business.
Amidst the above, I also realized I need to work alone and for myself. But like many others, I often doubt myself.
To keep myself accountable and to be able to look back on my progress, I decided to post all about it in video form.
I also have been blessed with first hand experience of a heartwarming community that could form from a single video.
So, I hope to provide that space through this channel.

Word of advice, i never confirm the task, until I’m 100% sure i can do the task, have the proper tools, and they send me pictures of the task at hand. If i feel i can’t do it, or it’s out of my skill set, i nicely refuse the job, and ask them to cancel. That way it doesn’t count as a forfeit.

Hey! New here - love your vids! :) Can I ask - When setting up your tasker profile, picking your skills, I see 'Help Moving' etc,.. if I select that, will I get a chance to explain that I don't have a van (I live in Manhattan, NYC, but I can drive) or any equipment, but that I've moved myself and others many many times and am pretty good at it..? Or does that task just assume you'll have a van and equipment? There are other skills listed that I could apply this same question to. And from the comment below I guess there's a setup fee? Can you tell me anything about that? Thanks for your thoughts!

All I can really do that's kind of notable is draw, sort of paint, and I have experience working as a teacher aid (not teaching). I think the popular ones right now are moving, TV mounting and furniture assembly. And as far as increasing your skill set for the trades, pick one you’re somewhat familiar with, watch a bunch of KZfaq videos to prepare and just get right into offering it on the app.

As a new Tasker, I am extremely upset with the lack of customer service from corporate. When applying to become a tasker I was never told outright that applications in my area had been suspended. The list of towns/cities that were off limits was pretty long as well. They have a "no money back" policy after registration. So I'm 90 percent done with registration and can't complete, and cant get my money back. Please please check to see if your area is off limits on the website before you make the same mistake I did.
@ahandywomanandherdog

Omg I didn’t know that was going on, that’s awful and messed up! I wonder if they’re not refunding you because the suspension is temporary. Though regardless, they should at least email you to let you know if it’s indefinite or temporary and give you the option to get a refund if you so choose. Sorry to hear this happened to you. I’m guessing you’ve already contacted them about this, perhaps you could reach out to them publicly via Twitter or Instagram if they have it.

@ahandywomanandherdog

I recommend going to your local trade school and taking a semester on a couple of trades. You’ll learn that they kind of intersect and once you understand a couple of trades, it’s easier to catch on to the rest. But if you don’t want to spend the money, I’d volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and network with other tradespeople. And lastly, I’ve noticed most people (not me, lol) know a little bit about handiwork from their parents or grandparents.

I can build basically any furniture with instructions and KZfaq video help if they have it, but I'm not as fast as professionals. Is there time limit on building something?
@ahandywomanandherdog
@ahandywomanandherdog 2 жыл бұрын
No, there's no time limit. But on TaskRabbit, you charge the clients by the hour so the faster you're able to complete the task, the happier your clients will be. Happy clients will rate you and review you highly and will make you more likely to get rehired or new clients to want to try you out over others. The more you do assembly, the faster you get so don't worry too much about being as fast as the pros in the beginning. Just keep doing it while slowly increasing your hourly rate, and eventually you'll notice you start to anticipate the next steps and you'll be just as fast as the pros. Good luck!

How do you know how long a job takes to do? Plus about the client meaning do you go to a dangerous neighborhood to do a job ?? or can you pick and choose what jobs to take ?
@ahandywomanandherdog
@ahandywomanandherdog 2 жыл бұрын
It depends on the job/task and your own experience to determine how long it'll take you to complete it. But when the client requests you to accept or forfeit a job, they'll usually estimate if it's a small 1-2 hr job, 2-3 hr med job, etc. But for your own scheduling purposes, you should have an idea how long it usually takes for you to assemble an average dresser (for me 1.5 hours), a simple bed frame (1 hr max), or 5 standing desks (for me 2 hours), etc. etc. If you don't have experience doing that task, do research, look up average time to complete "blank" and go from there. You can set your own work area if you don't want to work for clients in a certain neighborhood but you draw out an area from one point back to the same point so you can't cut out pockets within the work area. And lastly, you can pick and choose what tasks to accept or forfeit but the app may negatively affect your profile/metrics (acceptance rate) should your reason for forfeiting the task be not up to their standards. For example, just because you don't feel like doing it, if you don't provide in the communication with the client why you don't want to do the job and forfeit it under "I don't want to do this task" then they may lower your acceptance rate. The lower acceptance rate might deter future clients from requesting you to their task. Hope that helps! Thank you for your comment, great questions!

Oh no! I’m not sure why TaskRabbit does not give more direction for the clients that book someone for the first time. As a Tasker, we’re told by the app to communicate with the client before we schedule/confirm the task request. I’m guessing so if the client made the request by mistake, we don’t show up and have no way to contact the client. After requesting someone, the Tasker will message you on the app’s chat thread and will either ask you for more details regarding the task or to confirm the time, and the client has to respond in a reasonable amount of time or the Tasker can forfeit the request under “client became unresponsive.” The client can also message the Tasker there and if they don’t respond in a specific amount of time, you can cancel the task and find another person. Omg I totally forgot to say! The fee is an hour of your rate for that skill. If the client cancels within 24 hours before the task begins, the app pays you an hour at the rate the client hired you.

I was always told for years and years, you do not have to pay to work. Taskrabbit charges you a fee. NO THANKS. There are so many more apps out there that do not charge and probably generate more income. CONSIDERING ALL THE ADVERTISING COMPANIES PAY FOR, WHY CHARGE PEOPLE TO WORK?
@ahandywomanandherdog

It’s a give and take I guess. I agree there are other apps out there that also charge a fee to facilitate the connection of leads and providers that aren’t worth it. But TaskRabbit overall is great in making sure they have the client pay for their invoices and sifts through scammers for me so I think it’s worth it.

@@ahandywomanandherdog Thank you. You are very right. I guess a person can look at it like making an investment in themselves also. I dread losing money and being taken advantage of. Perhaps with more reviews I may eventually use it. Until then I got my eye on them :-)) Thanks again. Be well.

Ikea are a horrible business. The hidden costs of furniture delivery, furniture removal and assembly make this business a real scam. Taskrabbit is a terrible business from the end customer perspective. Luckily you meet nice taskers who can create and develop their own business and build their customer base. That the only good thing about this business.

Yeah the added costs at the end is pretty outrageous. I agree with you on that. But I still like the quality of the furniture at IKEA.

@@ahandywomanandherdog Change your zipcode to a California, less populated town. It does not serve all areas. They will charge you for registration and refuse to give a refund after telling you they have no service in your area. I have personally tested this as FACT.

@@charliechuckleberry5307 that is fucked up if they denied you from becoming a Tasker for that reason. They should tell you before you end up paying. I guess the only way to avoid that is to check if they serve your area first. Sorry, man, but if you ever move to LA area, you can definitely be a Tasker there.

@@ahandywomanandherdog If the app revealed that they don't serve all areas, then it would be less shady. They should have a map or list showing all the locations they serve.

Task Rabbit is a scam. You cant leave a review unless the task is completed which not all taskers are equipped to complete the task. The customer service is also horrible, they find all sorts of ways to end the chat before your problem is solved

I personally don’t consider it a scam but you’re entitled to your opinion. Customer service is definitely lacking so I’m definitely with you on that.
