Thanks for another informative video Rich. I just purchased that laser head to replace the original one on my LM 2 that was not a fixed focus lens. I added the adjustment ring and Z axis from King Grubby and the G8 lens and still spent more time trying to focus than actually using the laser so I’m really excited and waiting for it to arrive. Keep up the good work, love watching and learning from you.

Thanks Mike! I actually love the manual focus myself! I have two of them. I use a black 3D printed dish with a tad of water in it and I can see the spot much better than the black paper.

No need to apologize for your "long" video, Rich. I'm enjoying every single minute of it. I did find one "small" error in your assembly, but it is not relevant to the function. You have swapped the two X-axis profiles. The front one belongs to the back and the back one to the front, because the scaling lines always point to the inside and the numbers to the outside 😉

Rich, thank you for another GREAT video! I am currently watching all of your videos - or at least that’s my goal. I do have a few questions: 1- where do you source your wood? All I’ve bought is some 12 x12x1/8 baswood from Amazon and some parietal board (4m). 2- Do you condition or dry the wood for a week or two? 3- if you are cutting with your honeycomb, do you place a metal plater f something underneath it to protect your waste board? Mine is pretty burned all over, so I can’t imagine people making a nice board- then NG racing all over it. Thanks in advanced Rich!
@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy
@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy 2 жыл бұрын
Hi David, Most of my wood now comes from Amazon and I put links in the description. I used to get it from a local specialty lumberyard and a cabinet maker in 4x8' sheets, but with all the supply chain issues right now, I'm just using Amazon. I don't condition it, I just leave it in the sealed bag with weights on top. I use aluminum foil under the honeycomb and raise the honeycomb about 1'4" off the foil so the fumes & debris don't get trapped and my ventilation unit can remove them. Thanks for watching, new video posts at 6am!

I actually ground down the end on the air assist because it was so close that if your material isn't perfectly flat it can rub against the materials. You should do a video on using more than one laser at a time in lightburn. I read somewhere that it could be done but haven't got around to trying it yet.
@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy
@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Atienne, Yes, you can run two lasers at the same time, however, you need Win10 or 11 (as I understand, I don't have a Mac) to do so. And you need to run two instances of Lightburn. In other words, you can't send the same job to both lasers from the same instance of Lightburn, unless you have a C02 with a Ruida or Marlin controller that stores the job (send instead of start). To control two lasers, open Lightburn, connect to the laser and start the job. Then open a second copy of Lightburn (the 2nd laser has to be on a different COM port) and send another job.

Rich, I bought the LM2PRO when it first came out. I'm glad I did because you paid double what I did. But even so I think the laser is worth it. The z axis adjustment is one thing I would recommend. This machine has been a workhorse for me with hundreds of hours on it and still works as good as it was when it was new. If Ortur comes out with 10 watt head I will probably buy it and replace the one that is on it now. I also bought the rotary attachment and followed your instructions to a "t" but it didn't work (I probably should do a firmware update). With a few work arounds I did get it working however. This laser does an awesome job on engraving glass. If your viewers need to convince their wives about buying a laser just tell the little lady that they are cheaper than a bar tab.(and a lot more fun)
@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy
@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy 2 жыл бұрын
You must be a *BIG* drinker Kris! 🤪 I agree, it's money well spent! Funny because I didn't have problem at all with the rotary, but I wanted to try something new, so I didn't enable the rotary. I just set the steps and diameter and it worked like a charm.
@krisknowlton5935
@krisknowlton5935 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy that is what I kinda did on the rotary too. Actually I don't drink much at all (but I have seen folks that could pay for a laser in a couple of nights worth of drinking) and I don't smoke so I guess laser engraving is my vice. But what you said is funny. I got quite a chuckle out of that one. I forgot to mention. I 3D printed an air nozzle that is pretty much like the one you have and have not had any problem with the lens getting smoked up until I turned the air assist off. Then you will need to take the nozzle off because it will put a cataract on your lens pretty quick. It may be different on yours but if you suddenly loose power check for a dirty lens.

Rich, thanks for the honest review. I ordered the LM2Pro S2 with the SF laser direct from Ortur and they sent me the original LM2Pro with the 2-4 laser. They acknowledged the error but have refused to replace it, send me the SF laser, or offer me anything other than a $30 refund despite the 30-day guarantee. I will say that for what it does, it seems to cut and engrave well but it wasn't what I ordered or paid for. Just a heads-up for folks considering ordering the laser.

Hi there and thank you for the very informative video! I've been thinking to buy a laser for quite some time but never been able to decide on what to get but after seeing a couple different good reviews on the Ortur brand I'm thinking to go with them. There are a couple things I'm wondering though, first, how much difference does the SF vs LF do? Right now I'm planning on doing mainly engraving and some cutting but who knows maybe I'll really get into it and want to cut more stuff... And you show clearly in your video that the LF can do good engraving, so meybe it makes sense to get the LF? Second, did you look at their Aufero Laser 2 machine? I've seen good reviews on that as well but as a beginner I find it hard to see what the difference is between that one and the LM2 Pro.... All thoughts and suggestions are most welcome, thanks :)
@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy
@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ola, The difference between the SF & LF is marginal, the LF can cut better, but both engrave equally. I'm not really sure why the even offer the SF. The Aufero uses the same laser modules, but it's less expensive with less features. I personally believe the extra features on the Pro are just fluff and I actually like the horizontal V-wheels on the Aufero better, since dust and debris won't accumulate in the track of the extrusion. I don't see much difference between the two models. I chose the Pro because I knew I was going to setup the camera, and the Pro frame accepts the frame for the cam.

@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy
@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy 2 жыл бұрын
Not really Mike. Diode lasers are for engraving and cutting hobby wood. Cutting real 1/4" ply is a task and would take an expensive 10W to do it really slowly. A Co2 would be more up to the task.
