The show likely did NOT get “renewed” for a second season. They likely ordered a set number of episodes and split those episodes into seasons.

Anything is better than this. Be Cool. The live action movie, AND it's sequel. And the direct-to-video movies. Even Get A Clue. Scrappy is better than this. SCRAPPY! I'd rather watch Willow, the D+ series, and that show hurt my soul.

I agree 'What's new' was my scooby doo growing up. I also watched reruns of 'where are you'. I never watched Mystery inc, but I heard good things. Scoob! and now Velma, it feels like this IP is at an all time low. I feel bad for the younger generation.

My Wife pointed out that one reason that the original Scooby Doo continued in syndication forever is that it had qualities that allowed it to continue to be appealing to new generations of children. 1)Very predictable, 2)Dumb enough that kids feel smart in comparison, 3) Reassuring: No real ghosts or monsters - it's always someone in a mask Later iterations often ignored that last part, of course, but I am not sure it was really an improvement.
@trumpetbob15
@trumpetbob15 Жыл бұрын
Don't forget number 4, which this show fails at from the get go - stand-alone episodes! The best syndicated shows have few, if any, multi-part stories; instead, everything is wrapped up in a single episode. Makes it much easier to just turn on an episode and enjoy a rerun without having to think back and go, "Wait, where am I am in this series? Who is with who and doing what again?"
@jfess1911
@jfess1911 Жыл бұрын
@@trumpetbob15 Over the years I have decided that I am OK with a certain amount of character arcs. Otherwise, the main characters seem stupid because they cannot learn from mistakes. On the other hand, I do like when at least part of a story comes to a conclusion in one or two episodes. I'm not a fan of series where nothing is settled at the end of each episode and you don't get any satisfacton until the end of the season.
@trumpetbob15
@trumpetbob15 Жыл бұрын
@@jfess1911 I don't fully disagree but it depends on the type of show. In an animated series like the original Scooby-Doo, I don't need character growth. For some shows, while I may appreciate a character arc when binging the whole series, I'm less concerned when catching syndicated re-runs. (I'm thinking a mystery show like Monk that was mostly episodic here to keep it similar.)

The mysteries weren't overly convoluted - they were non-sensical, they couldn't even get the necklace/watch chain to match that was the 'main' clue. Plus, if she could swap brains or hypnotize people, then why not use that to swap her brain into Fred to take over the company or make him competent.

For years I’ve thought the death of the well written TV joke had its origin story in Modern Family-a great show in general-but it’s the first one I remember that relied so heavily on characters reacting to irritating or awkward situations with “Really?” “Seriously?” Or “Come on!” in place of an actual joke. Like placeholders that never got revisited.

Everything that once felt fresh but which is *easy* to do (meta-humor, referentiality, "jokes" that have to do with a character reacting at length to something) got run into the ground until we're all wishing they would go away.

The original Scooby Doo has a very special place in the format of my young mind, and it was very simple. The supernatural was never real - the solution to the mystery was always rational. Then came Ghostbusters, and the twist that the supernatural is *real* has been the permanent "twist" ever since.
@kazinadbiralamadit6905

True but even the newer incarnations of Scooby Doo like Mystery Incorporated managed to blend both like you do have schmucks who dress up in elaborate costumes to deceive people yet the show has an overarching mystery that is supernatural. Gravity falls had Mysteries that are always supernatural Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated managed to have both non-supernatural & supernatural elements at the same time that don't contradict each other
@CWargh63

@@kazinadbiralamadit6905 For the 40 odd years since Ghostbusters the throw away joke that the crazy person's conspiracy theory is actually the truth has become normalized and even a heroic trait of protagonists. Thank goodness that this has not proved to be a problem in our modern society...

Scooby-Doo still has a special-nostalgic place in my heart... The show used to air on TV at 2200 everyday and I just loved to watch it... I am '98 born and I think Cartoon Network launched in India in 1995, so they had this huge catalogue of shows ripe for a whole new audience Richie Rich, Scooby Doo, Popeye, Flintstones, Jettsons, Top Cat, Tom & Jerry etc... So you can say for us Indians this was our classics along with the late 90s-2000s airing shows like Ben10, Hot Wheels F5, Ed Edd & Eddy, Courage, Johnny Bravo and ofc the whole of DCAU shows among others. So these 40s-70s shows were new for us and watching HBO butchering Scooby Doo like this was very very painful... I just dropped out after ep 3.
