For every week of work, the ‘ČSD’ would give me a free train ticket anywhere in the country. That would be four to six tickets a year, and I travelled the whole country like that, at age 16-18. Yes - different times… 😀 Český Ráj was one of my most visited areas, I even organized a traditional late spring school trip for the whole class at my high school…. Cimrman is actually fictional character created by Jiří Šebánek a Zdeněk Svěrák. It was joke to their plays that became so famous thoug our country and through all generations. So bacicly he is inventor that invented unuseful crap or invented something grounbreaking 5 minutes too late after someone else. He is part of many of our jokes. Like when Bell invented telephone, he already had 3 missed calls from Jára Cimrman.

I think originally the character Cimrman was created as a mockery of our pride in great "czech" personalities like Gregor Mendel (born in german speaking family, died long before czech independence) or Sigmung Freud (born in german speaking family of jewish immigrants, lived most of his life in Vienna). Cimrman was supposed to be another "czech" genius, i.e., czech father, austrian mother, born in Vienna and he has a german name with czech spelling.

@AdriLaivaeDosi3 ай бұрын
Yeast dumplings are made from coarse flour and yeast (of course, there are also eggs, milk, salt, broken Czech roll from the previous day). It is a yeast dough. After rising, it is made into buns and cooked. It is thrown into boiling water and cooked. Or they can also be steamed. Traditionally, ideally on a canvas. Potato dumplings have a different texture than leavened ones. It is a potato dough, meaning that there is no shortage of cooked type C potatoes (the kind that are spreadable after cooking and are good for mash). This dough is also cooked in boiling water. And then there are cottage cheese dumplings, which are often filled. Yeast dough can be used to make stuffed and steamed dumplings. And then there are the Karlovy Vary dumplings, which are the most luxurious. Don't compare dumplings to bread under any circumstances, because it will lead you to a completely different place. We actually don't eat that much classic bread with main meals. In addition, we have a different one than anywhere else in the world. You can still find a similar one in southern Poland and then at most in specialized bakeries.

4:18 Wikipedia says that "Jára Cimrman is a fictional Czech polymath, presented as a universal genius. Playing along with the pretence of his real existence is part of his characterization". I don't know who "calculated" that center of the world ("střed světa", in Czech), but if it was a Czech person then it's suspicious that it's conveniently located in Czechia (I'd ask to see the calculations if those were real, but just the mention of Jára Cimrman probably means it's not) 😛
@midpavelvon97853 ай бұрын
Ooooooo man. Thats all just a joke. let's repeat the lessons of the first grade of elementary school. Where is the center of the sphere (Earth), is it really somewhere on its surface? If you believe that the word is flat, then it can easily be in the Czech Republic, otherwise I would advise to give it a little more thought :).
@pedrostormrage3 ай бұрын
@@midpavelvon9785 ...I know it's a joke (since Jára Cimrman isn't real). Also, from the context I assumed the center(s) Janek was talking about was geographical (surface-wise; see the sign at 4:02), not geological (solid-wise). As it turns out, people have already calculated the geographical center of Earth (which is far less obvious than the center of a sphere), and the most recent calculation says it's near Kırşehir, Turkey (as I expected, it would be an incredible coincidence if it was actually in Czechia).
