Created by Ben Long or the John Dory Oyster Bar in Manhattan NYC. The Story goes that when Ben Long submitted this drink to his boss Sasha Petraske (who was consulting on the cocktail menu at that time) he was not enthused as he was not a big fan of Mezcal in cocktails. He thought that Mezcal tended to overtake the other flavors in drinks and just generally didn’t work that well. But when he tasted this drink, he loved it. Mind Blown and it went on to become an instant favorite. Sadly The bar was shuttered in 2019 without an explanation and curiously, ten days previously the same group had shuttered Hearth & Hound their Los Angeles Restaurant.

Recipe
Oaxacanite
1oz (30ml) Mezcal
1oz (30ml) Tequila
3/4oz (20ml) Honey Syrup
3/4oz (20ml) Lime Juice
Scant 1/2 tsp Angostura Bitters
Add Grapefruit peel into the tin (Regal Shake)
Shake/Strain/coupe

reminds me a little of a drink called rising sun, 1 1/2 oz mezcal (I use Vida) 3/4 oz grapefruit juice 1/2 oz lime juice 1/2 oz maraschino liqueur pinch of salt, shake n strain. like a riff on a Hemingway daiquiri.

greetings from mx, first of all, great video - I would call the cocktail oaxaqueño (that's how we call people from oaxaca here). also about that mezcal, personally I don't like it much but it's from the same producers of amarás, a very good mezcal. again nice video, I'm going to try it tonight with montelobos ;)

Hey Chris....that's actually exactly the drink I was imitating when I created the Oaxacanite. I even stole the name from the Brooklynite, as a Oaxacan wouldn't be a "Oaxacanite". But in Brooklyn....while drinking Mezcal.....then they would be.....a .........Oaxacanite? lol

Agave would be closest but you may have to dial in the volume to account for its differences

The old raspy voice videos where actually the first videos I've seen from your channel so for a while I actually thought your voice just sounded that rough and raspy and it weirdly kinda worked with your long haired metal/rock band frontman look at the time XD. On a side note, just yesterday I was actually wondering if there was a named and established tequila variation of the Bee's Knees/Business template^^. Is there a rum + lemon/lime + honey version that you like and might do a video on in the future?

Specifically when you shake with a Grapefruit peel. The name "Regal" for that was solidified by Theo Lieberman, one time head bartender at Milk and Honey 23rd St. Also of note, shaking with an Orange half moon is a "sunshine" call.

I have heard the word Hearth pronounced differently. You say it like earth with an h at the beginning and I say it like heart with th at the end. H-Arr-th and Hound. Potato potato I guess.
