Were you actually a part of the band or was it just for the live band? Either way, that's so cool. That album is one of my favorites from his discography. When I first started getting into his music, it was always my dream to somehow work with him, whether it be in a concert or studio. Hell, even just meeting him in person would've been great. He'd always been good at exposing and working with other artists, so it wasn't such an unlikely dream. The day he died was so sad.

Jonathan Morales I was his bass player, and we played shows in Houston, and Austin including SXSW. And I got to be in his doc The Devil and Daniel Johnston for a few short scenes. Jason and Bridgette (gtr and drums) were my friends and that’s how I had this crazy chance to play with him! I think he didn’t like me too much not sure why except that I was shy around him and he didn’t trust me being the “new guy” in the band.

I gotta say this Lucius version of Walking the Cow is my favorite. I knew Daniel long before the rest of the world when he was just a dark curly haired energetic and sometimes troubled young guy. I think at some point he was happy and that's all that matters. It amazes me that so many people loved what he did. Seems kind of strange but that's how everything was with Daniel. Daniel Johnston is more important to me then any other musician. I first listened him this year by complete fluke due to the fact built to spill started making an album of his songs. same month as UK went into lockdown. I lost my job, I lost my mind, I lost myself but I found Daniel Johnston at the time I needed him most. Daniel said that "There's a devil and he knows my name" The only thing he was to me was an angel. He saved me. Thank you, RIP Daniel.

This always makes me think of Daniel: "Sometimes it makes me sad though- Andy being gone. I have to remind myself that some birds aren’t meant to be caged. Their feathers are just too bright. And when they fly away, the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up does rejoice. But still, the place you live in is that much more gray and empty that they’re gone. I guess I just miss my friend." The place we live in now, is much more gray, but We had you Danny, We still do, but we used to, too. Love you Danny.

I wore the ugliest sharpie shirt to school that said Daniel Johnston is Jesus or something like that LOL. I agonized over his lyrics and creativity and even made a journal for songs that weren't on rejected unknown and drew dead dogs eye all over it. As much as it sucks to never had that dream realized I know that in person maybe he wasnt the same as the superhero with grand illusions that helped me so much in my youth. So thankful for everything he ever brought into this world and hearing these covers so he can live on. HE WILL LIVE FOREVER.

I read an article in the Seattle times by a guy criticizing the resurgence of Daniels materiel as somehow making fun of mental illness. It was clearly written by someone who doesn't understand what it's like to experience "mental illness." I view Daniels art and musical achievements through the lens of understanding of what it must be like to be that empathetic and emotionally raw as I imagine Daniel was. What a brilliantly expressive soul and kudos to him for capturing his beautiful and sometimes brutal insights into what it's like to exist here in this world everyday.........Some things Last a Long Time......for a very good reason

@@punpunpunyama9271 No one one knew who Daniel was in 1981. Also, it’s well known Daniel was inspired by Neil Young. It's sad listening to these songs, and imagining the trajectory of Daniel's life, and how wild the ride was. His mania made him fearless at times, and it took him places, but the lows were dark. To keep going between those states has to be tormenting. One minute you feel like you can do anything, and the ideas just flow and the next, you're seeing demons. His life was fascinating, tragic, and an example of what can be achieved if we just lose the fear, and go for it.
