About the artist and the song:
Bobby Goldsboro (born January 18, 1941)[2] is an American country and pop singer-songwriter. He had a string of pop and country hits in the 1960s and 1970s, including his signature No. 1 hit "Honey," which sold over one million copies in the United States.
"Honey," also known as "Honey (I Miss You)," is a song written by Bobby Russell. He first produced it with former Kingston Trio member Bob Shane. Then he gave it to Bobby Goldsboro who recorded it for his tenth album Honey.
The song was released as a single in the U.S. in 1968 and spent five weeks at #1 the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart, from April 7 to May 11 (the 200th song to do so), and three weeks atop Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart. It was preceded on the Billboard Hot 100 by "(Sittin' on) the Dock of the Bay" by Otis Redding and was followed by Archie Bell & the Drells' "Tighten Up." It was Goldsboro's only #1 hit on the Pop Singles and Country Singles charts and it was his first song to top the Adult Contemporary chart. "Honey" reached #2 on the UK Singles Chart and a re-release of the single in England in 1975 (see 1975 in music) reached #2 again. In Australia, it spent four weeks at #1 on the ARIA Charts, replacing The Beatles' "Lady Madonna", and was the #6 song of 1968.

My wife, soulmate, best friend, and the LOVE of my life passed away September 29, 1973. She drowned in the Atlantic Ocean in Wilmington, NC. I pray when I pass away I'll see her in Heaven. It's been a long time. This year it will have been 50 years ago she passed away. Even today I still shed tears because she passed away. We both were very young. I still love her very much.

My mom used to listen to a 70s CD she had with us in the car a lot. This song was on there. I lost her to cancer 14 years ago when I was 14. My dad listened to it with me after she passed. I lost him 4 months ago to cancer as well. I miss my mom and dad every single day and words could not describe it. This song never fails to make me cry, even as I’m typing. My wife, partner, soulmate, friend, Love, LaVonne, went to heaven early in the morning of May 19, 2024. Yesterday, May 30, was the 27th anniversary of the day we met, at a church dance, when she came up to me and asked if I wanted to dance… we were married the next December and I miss her SO MUCH! “…and I’d love to be with you, if only I could.” “And it was in the early spring when flowers bloom, and robins sing, she went away.” I love you LaVonne. Thank you for sharing all those wonderful minutes, hours, days, years with me. I’m glad you’re in Heaven now, free from pain.

Being only 19 years old now, I didn't know about this song growing up. The first time I heard it was in the car with my then 58 year old dad in early 2010. My mom had passed away in September 2009 from kidney failure. When it came on the radio, he told me that she used to love this song, while he used to think it was lame, given he was just a wannabe macho high school boy when it came out. Listening to it with him, I realized that Honey sounded exactly like my mom, who was a very emotional person. I think he got the picture. He was in tears by the end of the song. I finally realized what it really meant. Before they were my parents, they were just a young couple in love. Married over 30 years, he had just lost his long time sweetheart. And now I get a chill down my spine whenever I hear this song.

I met a beautiful native American gal right before the pandemic. She was thrilled we met and so was I. She worked in a hospital lab. When the virus hit most of the lab staff quit for obvious reasons. She stuck with her job. With the shortage of workers, the hospital scheduled her for more hours. I tried to tell her NOT to work too many overtime but she told me she needed the extra money. She was a single parent. One day I visited her and she was fine. In the back of my mind I was keenly aware of the pandemic and her job as a lab technician and the real possibility of her getting exposed to it. Anyway, I saw her and a week after she told me she was sick. This was in March of 2020. She stayed home and didn't go to work for obvious reasons. Then two weeks went by. She texted me saying she was going to the hospital because she was just too sick. I received about 2 or 3 texts from her while in the hospital. The last text I got from her said, "When is this going to end?!!" I continued to text her despite not getting any replies. Almost 3 weeks went by. I continued to send her encouraging messages. Messages like, I missed you and hope you get well soon and go home. Still no texts til one day in one of my texts I told her, "I'm beginning to believe you may be upset with me because I failed to visit you in the hospital." I added, "I'm sure you're home now recuping and you may have decided I'm not the kind of person you'd want to associate with so I'll wish you a fast and full recovery and the best of luck. Love, M." Well, another week went by and still no answer from her. Then one late afternoon I was driving to another state when I got a call. I answered it and it was a young lady who asked me if I was Mike who "was leaving my mom text messages." I said I was. She told me that her mom had passed from the virus two weeks earlier. My heart broke. I had to pull off the road. I miss her sooooooo much. 💔 x 1000000000000

I planted a small tree in my mam's garden this summer. Mam is nearing the end of her life. No longer able to tend to her beloved garden, I found the tree still in it's pot, looking forlorn. Whilst visiting and helping to tend her garden I found it and planted it with loving care. I thought of this song. Love you mam.💕

@@jimreadey4837 In my opinion it doesn't. Today's music isn't music for the soul or heart. This song means a lot to me too. You can call it living in the past or wharever. but one thing is certain. I played out late at night, I chased fireflies at night and could walk alone anywhere without being afraid of being kidnapped or shot. We never had to lock our doors. My mama and daddy were textile workers. We weren't poor and we weren't rich but we had real childhoods and teenage yrs . and we had love. My sister and I would sit on the front porch in rocking chairs , play records and sing our hearts out. Song's like " Honey " was a story telling song , as were many. .If life had a rewind button...I'd hit it hard. I'd go back to my childhood until a teenager of 14 yes old. Life was simple then ..Running, laughing, dancin, skating and we all ate meals together as a family. So I'll keep listening to Honey and many others because they remind me of things and times I wouldn't have wanted to miss for anything. Yes, life was precious then.

@@janetbrowntlc, just because you enjoy remembering your early years, and selected (though, certainly, not all) music from that time, doesn’t mean today’s music doesn’t deal with today’s life and reality. I never implied that today’s music lifts the heart or feeds the soul... only that it reflects the time we live in. I think your issue is that you don’t like the times you’re living in.

@@jimreadey4837 FYI , I know every song from that era . What you can't comprehend is life was so much simpler then for everyone. The dancing was classy not trashy. The music wasn't spitting out curse words..half naked. The music told stories. I was raised on Cash and Elvis but I love all oldies music including but not limited to ,Paul Anka, Jimmy Clanton, Procal Harum, Percy Sledge and Johnny Rivers, etc and music from the 80s.As for my life I have a very nice Apt.in town and a beautiful house on the lake. I drive my truck or my Jeep but I'd give everything I own to go back to that simple life for just an hour to see my mama , daddy and brother again . Nothing wrong with reminiscing about how simple life was back then. I know things change, I'm no idiot, but for the better..hell no ! Some people now days don't have a place to lay their head or food to eat unless they're someone with 15 baby daddy's. I worked all of my life but I got it backward. I should have walked the streets with a sign on my back..with the words "curb service".Most people have been more in reverse than I have forward but that's another show all together ( if you get my drift) I'm honest to a fault.America is in the worst shape it's ever been in. We're snowballig to hell...eyes wide open ! So yeah it makes me feel good to remember when life was simple and music was music. People need to start looking up to the one who's looking down.God help us all.🇵🇷 🙏

One of my favorite songs ever. Reminds me of a young girl barely in her teens chasing fireflies, sitting on my front porch singing and hanging out with friends at the street light every night and happy, not a care in the world, only joy. I've give anything if I could go back to those days. Best days of my life, only I couldn't see it then. Well, I see it now. I was in such a hurry to grow up but time changes everything, especially our journey in life. Dreams fell by the wayside and its been a long journey but I keep going. But Honey will always be a very special song to me because it reminds me of how happy my life once was.If I could have one wish come true, I'd be that young girl again but I'd done alot of things different...if only I could.

I will always miss her and cry tears remembering her laughter and joy. She was only 32 when she died. She was murdered and her life was taken and yet, I still sit up and call her name. I cry for her love, the memories lost, I cry out to her. She was beautiful and lost before her time. This song sums it up. I love you Mom. I dedicate this song to you....Mom

2 Months Ago My Beloved Mother Passed Away At The Age Of 94. She Died On April 12th,2016. This Beautiful Song From 1968,Makes Me In Some Ways Wanting To Cry To Show How Much I Miss Honey Of A Mother I Had.I Will Miss Her Loving Smile Because She Was Always Happy To See Me. Later On September 2nd, 2016 I Had Another Death In My Family. My Niece Jessica Gordon Died From Liver Cancer At The Age Of 34.She Was Always Happy And Smiling And Never Gave Anyone Any Trouble. She Always Had A Positive Outlook On Life. I Will Always Miss Her Loving Smile And Presence As Well Missing Mailing Birthday And Christmas Cards To Her. She Was My Sister Donna's Daughter.

My Honey: She DID wreck the car. But what the heck. She surprised ME with HER puppy. She DID cry at TV shows when she thought I wasn't looking. Now my home is the empty stage. I sit in the back yard, listening to the robins sing and looking at her garden, and the clouds do cry for her, and I miss her so. She planted this yard, and was fussy about it. She was 58 when the Angels came 51 weeks ago, July 1, 2018. But who's counting...... We were married 20 years, and 2 months, but really, who's counting..... Honey, I miss you, and I'm being good. And I'd love to be with you, if only I could. This song is so sad, but fits her perfectly.....

This song has made me cry ever since my West Highland Terrier, Fluffy, died giving birth. It's been on my watch/listen later list for months due to that. As a child, I substituted Fluffy for Honey, & there really was a flower-bed that Fluffy dug (loved) in the front yard. I grieved for yrs over that dog, even tho all six pups survived, including Barney, the runt, whom the vet said would die. Barney outlived all his siblings, lived to be 14, he did. There's a giant chamber of sorrow in one, mixed w/happiness, heartache, love, mourning & memories, for everyone & everything we've ever cared for & ultimately lost. Bobby G's music, from the very 1st time I heard it, opened wide that chamber, more often than not leaving me bawling like a babe over passed pets, family, friends, projects, et al, including Goldsboro's poor ol' "Snuffy, the Elf who Saved Christmas." If u don't recall, Santa was sending Snuff to the Old Elves' Home cuz his increasing age had slowed him down, often interfering w/the faster, younger elves' work. Snuff felt he still had more to offer, & didn't appreciate being thrown away after a lifetime's svc to Santa's cause. At 57, I still cry for Bambi & Dumbo. Other songs strike that nerve, too, but none so thoroughly & consistently as, "Honey." I may still have the single I bought while grade-school-age shelved dnstrs. Hope so.

This song was played at my dear friend Rowena who died in November 2021 she was 68 and had Alzheimer’s which my dad died of in December of 1991 And the best teacher you could ever have mr John Cawley who helped me with my dad as I was a young boy. He is my Hero. But I worked with Rowena and we stayed as friends for over 20 years she was an amazing lady and I miss her so dearly. Her husband Kieth who was married to her for 57 years is devastated. Alzheimer’s is a horrible disease 🦠 and watching the long goodbye is so painful to see what was once a fit and well and then to see them dwindling away day by day breaks my heart ♥️ they may not remember you but you remember them and that all that matters.

I just looked this up after watching Lawrence Welk. Yep, I grew up listening and learning the 40s 50s 60s 70s songs from mom who now has advanced Alzheimers and Dad is gone. I'll be 60 this year, and funnily I had a crush on Bobby Goldsboro, but more than that, I learned about love and empathy from mom n dad way back when Honey made me choke up as a very young girl.

OMG! Everytime I hear this song, I cry. So very sad, and, at the same time, projecting such a beautiful love. The other thing is, as I listen to the lyrics, I also envision. And that's when I lose it. Not to mention, during the entire song, my never ending goose bumps. It's just such a powerful song. Whereas, I relate to most of my life to music, good, and bad. I rely on my music, to continue to give me strength. To, persevere, as difficult, and life threatening, as it has been, I have the music. We need to hold onto something, that is/will, be dear to us. To continue to fight, what will become, the inevitable.
