Approach on board B767 Gulf Air, sitting on left for the famous curved IGS 'Checkerboard' approach on runway 13.
Later in the afternoon changing to the South side of approach for heading the 'Checkerboard' in view.

My first time landing at Kai Tak was on a Pan Am B747 on January 4, 1980, enroute to SFO.

Amazing footage! I'm astonished more views haven't logged to see this! One thing this footage shows that you don't see a lot of is how fast these aircraft are moving after the r47 degree turn at the checkerboard! I seriously believe that when we as passengers look out the window of the airplane as we land, that our brains don't let us know how fast the plane is really going, because humans are not meant to move that fast. Thanks again. One funny note is near the beginning you have a medium long shot of a worker on the outside of a block of flats. The shot goes on for a few seconds. I'm wondering, "I guess this is kind of an art film, comparing..." then WHAM a VSa340 FILLS the screen!

It’s funny, when they closed Kai Tak, Hong Kong began to decline soon afterward. Of course, this has nothing to do with airplanes, but rather the CCP. Hong Kong will never be the same without Kai Tak and British Empire rule. Sorry Beijing. You don’t have what it takes to run that once great city. P.S. I’m not British.
