Hong Kong’s iconic Jumbo Floating Restaurant sailed away from its long-time home in Aberdeen Harbour on June 14, 2022. Talks to save the struggling 46-year-old tourist attraction failed, leaving its parent company with no option but to move it to an undisclosed location. As tugboats arrived to tow the boat away, Aberdeen residents showed up to bid it a final farewell.

@@presidentjiang6762 Pricing, food quality became subpar, and it just takes too long to get there (reach Aberdeen then take the boat) Totally makes sense that why it is out of business so quickly during lockdown. Not somewhere that most locals would want to dine in once per every few months or even years.

Psychologists say that seeing the HK Jumbo Restaurant be towed away due to old age is like a representation of your own age, or the passing of loved ones due to old age. Hence the sadness emotion even though youve never seen that restaurant before

Are they towing it to Macau? Or Manila? No insurance accessor worth his salt would let it be towed in open sea. That thing is technically a top-heavy barge not built to withstand the high winds and waves prevalent in South China Sea. It will be torn to pieces before making it to Manila (or Singapore) as the trip takes days and weeks, during which there're bound to be six-foot and taller waves en route. As we said in my sailing days, "That tub ain't got a prayer."

The restaurant left because it became unprofitable to operate. It's just capitalism. Things get created, then things get destroyed. No value is ever attached to anything. It is ironically the way HK has always operated. The boat should have been preserved, but it is now at the bottom of the ocean.
