China has restructured Hong Kong's electoral system to give loyalist parties a greater majority in two key decision-making bodies: the Election Committee and the Legislative Council. The Election Committee responsible for picking Hong Kong's leader has been granted new powers to send 40 representatives to the city's Legislative Council, which has been expanded from 70 to 90 seats. A committee will also be formed to determine candidates' eligibility to run in local elections, using information provided by the police's national security unit, with no judicial review or appeal of the decision allowed. Opposition activists say the changes will quash dissent and snuff out democracy in the former British colony. But the government says the moves are vital for Hong Kong's long-term stability.

I get the idea. For me it was that businesses used to have the majority of the power, which will only lead to corruption, and now the government has the ability to create the government. It will take just one corrupt powerful official to make the system fail.

"HK belongs to China, you want anti-Beijing to govern HK?" I want HK to chose who will govern HK. It is up to HK to chose whether pro-Beijing or anti-Bejing people govern HK. "Does US allow anti-Murica to govern or held position in the white house?" Yes. It does. "Does US allow pro-Beijing to in and out of the white house?" Again, yes. If Americans want to elect a president that is pro-Beijing, they have the freedom to do so. About a third of this country even idiotically believes the current president is a Chinese puppet. "Does any states from US allow pro-Beijing politicians to be their Mayor or Senator or held any political position?" Again, YES. Voters in each state can elect whoever they want to whatever position they want in the US. ANY us citizen who has lived in the US long enough is allowed to run for office in the US, even if they are pro-Beijing. The reason why pro-Beijing candidates don't run is because not many people would vote for them. Giving voters the freedom to elect whoever they want is part of democracy. "No country would allow non-patriot to govern the country. That's is why you teach your kid to respect and love your country in the first place." What makes this so funny is that you have now idea how western democracies work. ALMOST EVERY western democracy allows voters to elect non-patriots to govern their country. This is kind of the whole point of democracy. In Britain, the Scottish national party wants Scottish independence. In Canada the Bloc Québécois party wants Québéc to become independent. Neither party is "patriotic" because they both advocate for independence from their country and yet both parties have seats in each of their countries governments. The Scottish national party even has a near majority in Scotland and governs it with another pro independence party. I can give you countless more examples of countries with local parties that oppose their national government. What you are saying couldn't be further from the truth.

I hope it continue to develop into a meritocratic system, like those in the Mainland. Many people think it is best to elect leaders by one man one vote. But we persistently see liberal democracies failing to choose an effective leaders. If one man one vote is the best system, it fails to explain why all the CEOs of all successful corporations are not selected by votes of all employees. Instead they are selected/hired by merit, by senior management. Don't tell me running a country is easier than running a country. A selection process based on meritocracy that evaluates the candidate's experience and capabilities is the way forward.

@@serbanandreimarin5988 If you're from US, US have only 13 states when they got independence. That are in the east coastal areas of US. Other areas which US caught by conquest. British Dutch French Portuguese Spanish Belgium Italy Germany have colonies at the time when there're no technologies. So most of their atrocities are being buried in history. Now, you fake human rights and violence making countries claiming free the areas of other country makes ironic.
