Hey Luke! I enjoy your walking vids. I know you were Shinichi's guest here, but it's the first time I heard you talk at length. Usually you have only a couple of words on your channel. Nice to see and hear you. BTW - The park's name is Mother Waldron Park/Playground.

The murals are nice. They take the industrial/neglect away. And when there's pretty plants directly in front, the murals become as though 'sky'. A walk in cloud.

That tree looked like Melaleuca quinquenervia, what we call a paperbark here, though there are several Melaleuca species that are called paperbarks. It’s not a eucalypt but in the same family (Myrtacaea). They grow in warm climates, often in damp places. You can use the bark to wrap a fish before putting it on a barbecue. This steams the fish, just as if you had used foil. There are lots of paperbarks in the wetlands near where I live, not far from Moreton Bay.

This is one more Australian plant species that has found a home in Hawaii. The best known one, of course, is the macadamia.

The tree that you were curious about is a Melaleuca, which there are 300 species. The common name is a paperbark , honey-myrtles or tea-trees. The bark of the tree was one of the first mediums used in the construction of paper.

I love REAL street art that is done with the consent of the owners of the building like these obviously are and becasue they don't need to rush their work they can pull off outstanding things.

Wow! That was fun! Kaka'ako has changed since I was last there--the art is fabulous. So colorful and vibrant! Thanks to wonderful Luke for being your guide. I really enjoy his channel. And thanks to you, Shinichi (and Satoshi), for always taking us to interesting local places. Just some random tidbits of info (they fill my head): The I'iwi is otherwise know as the Scarlet Honeycreeper (it eats flower nectar) and is most plentiful on the big Island. And, I believe the tree you were looking at is a Cajeput tree (Paperbark or Tea tree) which is native to Australia.

The building across the street looks like the back of the old Fisher Hawaii warehouse. Also, Italian Ices is like a sorbet. If you grew up in Hawaii, Maui folks called it Goodie Goodie (“guri guri”). Looks like you can have it with shave ice and boba from that truck.

To clarify about the rail plan on O'ahu... the train route is only being shortened by one station under the present revised plan... instead of ending at Ala Moana Center, it will be ending at the place you were doing this waling tour... Kaka'ako! So people can take the train from the airport into Honolulu, but they won't be able to transfer onto buses to Waikiki at Ala Moana Center.

If I'm not mistaken that's the park where a Japanese couple was attacked by some drug addicts a few years back. Some homeless people came to their aid. I think the husband had to be hospitalized as a result and the community crowd funded to cover his medical expenses. It was a big issue when it happened. The Consulate of Japan in Hawaii even issued a warning for Japanese tourists of the dangers in that area

Beautiful building artwork. Yes, I agree Shinichi Masks are 100% effective. When c19 was first reported I was wearing a white N95 medical mask. I am a prepper I was ready. These were high quality and I wore them each for 2 days sometimes just the gross gey/black stains that appeared just from common pollution make me want to wear a mask randomly even after this is all over. btw 7 of the 15 people I work with came down with Covid and 2 of them have passed away. None of the 7 wore masks until it was law here temporarily. For some, it was too late.

The reason we don't actually reduce the spread of flue is because Americans love sick leave. Unions get support from employees because one of the things a union can get you is more payed sick leave. Americans use sick leave like a needed break from work for family issues or vacations. Employers are fine with this arrangement too. Flue goes around every year because we Americans want it to.
