I find Frank's singing to transcend all generations because you can understand his lyrics, which are powerful for most songs. The music is beautiful and something that stays with you. Thank you for doing this!

I know, right! Grew up listening to the greats. My favourite of this genre was Dean Martin for the men & Julie London for the women. There is something about Frank though. His stage presence is off the charts.

What a wonderful way to start the new year! Frank was and still is a treasure for us all, and I suspect most of us of my generation can relate to this song. Hearing it I’m both sad and hopeful at the same time. 😢😊 So many emotions… Thank you, Bethany! Happy New Year!

I said "phrasing" even before you! The way he can just fit in the words, in multiple different ways, every time he sings a song - or even within the same performance - is quite magical, to me. A one off!

Yes, you can! But I admit Frank Sinatra is great! It's his signature song! I love it. But at the same time there is even a better version (IMHO) - many might call it different version - by the one and only Elvis Presley (in Honolulu in 1973)!

Sinatra's voice got even smoother and more astounding as he got older. His voice became much more deeper, clearer, a lot more richer and soooooo unique, even his phrasing improved more than any male singer that I've heard so far. In contrast, Shirley Bassey, the female singer who sang ("Goldfinger" the James Bond soundtrack) and Karen Carpenter also have wonderful phrasing and marvelous voices. Now, getting back to Sinatra, his voice was not only fabulous, but so unique, his phrasing was perfect, just perfect. That by itself is a huge talent. There are a lot of good singers out there with very good voices, but Sinatra had it all...that awesome voice, his phrasing, the swagger, the talent, the presence, the confidence, the charisma, and believability. I recommend, if you haven't heard his older songs, to listen to... "You Go To My Head," his Nice & Easy Collection. Also, "Why Try To Change Me," among many, many other of his older songs. His voice and phrasing are just fabulous. Frank Sinatra... AKA, Ol' Blue Eyes, The Voice, The Chairman of The Board,...etc RIP. Good old days are gone, with a few exceptions by and large today's generation haven't a clue what is takes to be a singer.

I made the mistake of making my first purchase Sinatra's recordings from the 40's. I have to say I much prefer his deeper, raspier vocals that came with age (and perhaps a little smoking) which might be unusual to say of singers. Ian McCulloch plays guitar and sings with a cig dangling from his mouth on occasion to this day, and kept his voice intact for 35 years, but his vocals aren't as strong lately. He used to go from beautiful, smooth vocals to a deeper growl so effortlessly, but in his case, losing some of that smooth quality in his 60's hasn't been a positive. Still, the best live vocalist of the 80's though!

Another GREAT reaction and analysis of such a wonderful song! If you like Frank Sinatra, may I suggest the album "Sinatra at the Sands". Recorded live at the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas in 1966 with Count Basie and his orchestra. The banter and chat between songs is something many never saw from Ol Blue Eyes. It's been remixed and remastered, so it is most excellent played on a higher end audio system or headphones.

Thank you for expounding on the different techniques he utilises in this performance. There are other great singers - many with 'better' voices. But what sets him apart is that he rarely just sings the melody but always tries to sing the story in the lyric. Indeed, while his voice and musical styles between 1939 and 1994 radically changed, that quest is a constant and can be heard in countless songs and performances.

Bethany's personality ALONG with allowing her viewers to first listen to an extended (uninterrupted) sample of the subject piece; and, then always replaying the part she just commented on - to really get an understanding on each technique - ALL Adds up to a wonderfully enriching format. It's nice to know WHY I have always loved certain Vocalists for so many years.

I hope you see this Bethany. I’ve been following you and get excited when you drop a new reaction\analysis, especially Triumph :D. I heard a song I haven’t heard in years today and I thought “you know who would love this? The Vocalyst!” The song is More Than Words by Extreme. Two men. An acoustic guitar. One of the prettiest love songs ever by a rock band. The harmonies are incredible. The flip to falsetto after the chorus so, so, so just RIGHT. I would love to see you take this one apart. I know you won’t be disappointed.

Great to hear Frank again. What a voice. Here is another old one to check out. Lulu has been an International recording artist since 1964 and has been performing for decades although she is not widely known outside of the UK except as the wife of Maurice Gibb of the Bee Gees. She reprised one of her iconic songs “To Sir with Love” from the 1967 film she stared in with Sidney Poitier. In this recording, which is a KZfaq recording session from 2019, she was 70 years old and to me it sounds BETTER than the original recording. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a810eb16utqmhWQ.html
