4 year old video saving lives. Thank you so much. Seeing how it works took me less than 30 seconds to unlatch. Lifesaver.

For those that don't have those tools, you can just remove the three bolts holding the latch mechanism (not easy, but doable with a swivel) and open the hood enough to reach your hand to the back of the latch and pop that latch. But thanks for the video, actually SEEing the latch made a world of difference
Informative video with clear view of latch was definitely helpful. Watched a couple other videos with no real view of the latch and they also wanted you to drill through the grill in order to get to latch. Thanks!

Although my Honda CRV 2003's hood release latch was opened by pushing the opposite than compared to what is shown in the video (probably due to different design) that it took me several difficult attempts to finally open my hood, still a great video as the actual mechanism is being shown. The cable got disconnected from the latch & so it was only the last option - and I opened the hood successfully twice. Still a lot to be thankful for than a costly trip to the repair shop.

Great thorough description! I have a 1976 Cadillac Eldorado but it looks like the same kind of latching assembly I would recommend cleaning the lock thoroughly decreasing it and then greasing it up with silicone spray and then adjusting your hood props the rubber little Rod things around the whole circumference of the engine compartment make sure they're adjusted correctly but he's on it that's a great way to unlock the latch independent of the cable good job!

I have a 2013 Honda CRV that the hood latch was jammed. Pushing from side did not work as latch got bent and would not release.. I got it open by removing 10mm bolts. You can get to drivers side with long extension socket by pushing down on grill. I used a flat ratchet wrench to remove bottom passenger side. You can reach it from bottom with left hand if your arms aren’t too big. Get it on bolt at about a 10 o’clock position to have room to move it. Latch will then rotate up on remaining bolt and you can raise hood several inches to remove last bolt. Passenger side top bolt is blocked by secondary latch while hood is down. Latch was bent so wouldn’t release. Got new one on Amazon. Thanks for posting this video as it help me visualize latch and what I needed to do. Hope this helps someone else.

Tried this and it works!!! We didn’t have your special dent tools but we bent a rod and used it and did exactly what you said and it totally worked! It did take awhile of trying but we got it open using your technique! So thanks man!

No amount of pushing did anything for me, and there was no space to access latch from the bottom after jacking up car ( however I did appreciate the angulation that helped me to do other necessities) The easiest way for my 2002 civic was to remove the three bolts that held the latch down, and it still got hung up a bit releasing the hood partially after. With some wiggling I was able to free it and open fully.

Good video, but lever is not the easy hood release latch. That is the Safety hood latch which stops the hood from blowing open on the highway if someone pulls the primary latch by mistake or forgets to push the hood down fully closed.

If you have access to the latch, it takes a hell lota force to push that inner latch over the edge, I tried after getting the hood open and the latched freed in my hand to push it over, and I could barely make a trajectory with even solid finger contact. So whatever tools you get you better be ready to do some serious earth moving pushes or that baby ain’t going to drop open for you.
@nick801342 жыл бұрын
If it takes that much force, it is either rusted or bent. Clean rust or replace latch. Grease it well after either.

Hey all, Just went through this. Took me forever to figure out which part I was supposed to be moving, and it was nearly impossible to see anything with how bright the sun was above. The part you're moving will be a small part BEHIND the large spring. I couldn't get enough leverage with any tool, but I used my hand and I was able to get it free.

@reviewittv18023 жыл бұрын
Try having somebody pull on the cable from inside the car firmly but not to crazy while somebody else pushes down and pulls up on the hood lightly all simultaneously and see if the release latch will budge or move at that point, also try spraying a little Wd-40 on the latch as well.

You could try a" flexible claw tool" to try to crab the cable instead, they're inexpensive and almost sold it every wal-mart or autozone. Google it and you may have seen them before. Just a suggestion.

Dude, three 10mm bolts accessible from just under the hood. Take the bracket off and save your time. That cable has plenty of play to pull it up and click it off by hand. Spent 20 mins trying it your way. Just so impossible to find it from a closed hood with no space for your hand. And you can't push the latch in unless you have a hand up there anyway. Point is, you say you did it blind, but the method wasn't demonstrated, just repeated.
