The Hooded Grebe is a Critically Endangered bird that breeds on a few basaltic lakes in the interior of Santa Cruz, extreme south-west Argentina.

@@matjamesmusic i would say that you are wrong. Yes mating is driven by hormones, but its not hormones that have the "structural" information on how the brain is built. Thats the job of the DNA. The piece of DNA that specifies how the brain is built probably contains a smaller piece that hard codes that dance into their brains. Subsequently that dance is triggerd by the mating hormones. Take chickens for example. I have a farm and i incubate eggs using an artificial incubator. The small chicks know how to drink, eat, walk, flap their wings in order to get somewhere high. Who taught them that?? No one. They have these actions hard coded into their DNA and subsequently their brain.

@@dieselgeezer18 chickens being pre programmed how to eat, drink and basically look after themselves isn’t the same as a courtship dance. The desire to have and be capable of learning the courtship dance comes through dna but the actual moves are learned by younger birds watching older birds and trial and error. .the same in birds of paradise. The young males learn by watching the older males and by trial and error. This is all well documented in David Attenboroughs the life of birds dvd’s

@@happybee7725 Another great example of learned behaviors is the "apprenticeship" method used by long tailed manikins in tropical montane forests. During the breeding season, aggregations of males form groups called leks where the females select which male has the superior gene pool by their courtship presentation. They will subsequently copulate, but the females might mate with multiple males to both ensure fertilization and to combine the genes of all of the males in order to produce a genetically diverse offspring. This is a purely instinctual breeding paradigm, and they have evolved to perfect their displays to increase the chances of their genetic code being passed on to future generations. This applies to all species who exhibit lemming behavior, but the long tailed manikins have complex intraspecific breeding dynamics that showcase a unique aspect of sexual selection.

For anyone who dosen't know the "Rhinoceros Hornbill Bird" is now on the endangered list which is so sad because this creature looks very intregaing and I became horrified to know it became this way because of plantations of oil palm trees. And theirs alot of food we didn't know that has palm oil in it For Example : Tastykake products have Palm oil in them so if you are a person who likes Tastykake like me that didn't know about this information then you and I are unconsciously hurting the RHINOCEROS HORNELL BIRD! Please be aware of what your eating and what's inside the food your eating! And spread the word if you want to!

Grebes have the best courtships displays, love the Great Crested Grebes we have in the UK, although they are nothing compared to this, it genuinely puts some pro ballroom dancers to shame!
