I’m on my fourth for my grandchildren. Three of the kids spent a week at the beach and LOVED these ponchos. I got some ribbon for a fun trim around the sleeve openings.

Love it! Years ago, I made 3 for my kids. (and 2 adult sized ones) They called them their Jawa Suits because they were dark brown and looked like the Jawa from Star Wars. Now I have to make a little one for my Granddaughter!

My friend made my kids a hooded towel. She then sewed their names on them as well.They are 11 and 7 and I still have them.

I am a big lady I wear like a 3x, but I want a hooded towel that wraps all the way around me. I'm a mediocre sewer...lol. Does anyone have and ideas for me? I'd like it to be loose fitting so I can walk around and air dry.

I was just thinking about that my self. I think you would have to get a beach towel and a bath towel for the hood. That would be comfortable. And you might want to make a wrap around where you use a beach towel and a piece of good Velcro. you wrap the towel around your self and instead of tucking in the end of the towel put a safety pin in the place where you would have it tucked in to mark the spot where you want the Velcro. I would put about a 4 inch strip of the strongest Velcro they make. I love mine now I want one of these hood cape.

Penny Shaw A bath sheet instead of a bath towel might work.

You could make it the same way but join two bathsheets lengthwise. I just made some for my grandsons and I added a kangaroo pocket to the front and sewed the sides shut so they could change out of their swimsuits in public. I left fairly long armholes and the bottom of the sides I left open too below the knee. I appliquéed Spiderman cutouts on the pocket and trimmed the opening (front) of the hood with 2" wide band of the same fabric, just to fancy them up a bit. I had to lengthen them as they were a bit short and they're 5 and 6½ years old! (That's the part I left open.) This is a simple pattern so you can get creative BUT I wouldn't want to have to rip stitches out because they are buried in the terrytowel. You may want to consider a light to medium-weight fleece instead. You can buy inexpensive fleece blankets.
