As a much younger man, i thought the Hoodoo Guru's were the best thing since sliced bread. I was ridiculously into them as a teenager, and im still very fond of them. Haven't heard this one in a while, still sounds like one of the best summer songs ever!

❤ Hoodoo Gurus, Dave Faulkner, lead singers voice and those guitar riffs. Brings back lots of memories from it's realease in 1987, a much easier time.

Great party music. A relic from the days when Dave Faulkner had hair. Saw them touring December 87 after this. Newcastle Workers’ Club. I Was The One off this album too.

They're still at it, touring and recording. Their most recent album, "Chariot Of The Gods" was conceived during lockdown, and recorded and released as restrictions in Australia lessened. They couldn't get out and tour with it until 2022. There's a great video on youtube of "Get Out of Dodge": from that album, if you want to see what they look like in their 60s.

You are doing a lot of Aussie stuff. Thank you. Hoodoo Gurus are still performing with some concerts coming up in Perth. I live near Belmont (Perth) and the local public library is named after his mother, Ruth Faulkner.

Brilliant song, funny video.. Always loved seeing the Gurus at local pubs and venues in the 80's. This is a great song for barbeques and drinking with mates, and the words are something we can all relate. Hate to be a Debbie Downer, but we lost quite an enigmatic figure in Australian popular culture named Ignatius Jones. He was in a short-lived, but outrageous band called Jimmy & The Boys. They're best remembered for ''I'm Not LIke Everybody Else'' and ''They Won't Let My Girlfriend Talk To Me'' (latter written by Tim Finn). Some tribute to the great Iggy Jones would be appreciated. At least here in the Great Southern land. RIP Ignatius Jones

Ah my song then and now, still can't figure it out. Love Hodoo Gurus and love that they're still out there for us to enjoy. 💖🥰 Oh I love butterfly ball and pull it up every now and then, great song and clip to it, so joyful.

Ever since I seen recently their track that was recorded on the tube I’ve developed a wee soft spot for these guys .. honest to goodness party pop song , nothin wrong with that . 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

This & Come Anytime were alternative radio hits in the states. Great Bass 🔊 player & distinctive vocalist. Great live act.

I never tire of Hoodoo Gurus. Dave Faulkner is a songwriter with depth and one that has addressed subjects that many would shy away from, including homosexual themes like ''Come Anytime''. Another group that addressed uncomfortable subjects in a more brazen manner was Jimmy & The Boys. Sadly, the band's frontman, Ignatius Jones, has joined the others up there in musical heaven. I remember thorougly enjoying Jimmy & The Boys on Countdown, and the sharp-wit and intelligence of Ignatius Jones. The man went on to do amazing things including Sydney's Vivid festival. He proved to be a larger than life figure even though he wasn't quite a household name. Jimmy & The Boys had a few hits including a Disco-punk cover of The Kinks' ''I'm Not Like Everybody Else'' and a Split Enz reject called ''They Won't Let My Girlfriend Talk To Me''. I always thought about making a request for either song, especially when transvestite keyboardist, RIP Billy O'Riordan (aka Joylene Hairmouth), departed earth in November last year. I think now is the time to take a look and listen to Jimmy & The Boys. Cheers, Hayley

@@DogInSpace I only saw them in the Countdown studio doing ''I'm Not Like Everybody Else'' and ''Products Of Your Mind''. Still an event even though it was only Ignatius Jones doing the live vocals. I had all their singles, their two albums and Ignatius's solo single ''Like A Ghost'' (written by Steve Kilbey).

Thanks for the video! "What's My Scene" is so great! It's been way too long since I've heard this amazing power pop tune. I'm glad so many people requested it. If you guys ever want to expose your audience to a power pop masterpiece that I bet no one has requested, check out 1979's "The Shape of Things To Come" by The Headboys. Scottish rockers that wrote one of the greatest hidden gems out there. Everyone I play it for says "Why have I never heard this!"😉 Cheers! -Scott

I adore Hoodoo Gurus so much. I followed them in their early days when they were Le Hoodoo Gurus. I'm a little sad right now because Ignatious Jones of legendary Sydney band, Jimmy & The Boys, has passed away. The band did a version of ''Not Like Everybody Else'' (Kinks song) and had a hit called ''They Won't Let Me Girlfriend Talk To Me''. RIP Ignatious Jones

Kaity, I found myself in tears when I heard the news of Iggy's passing on the radio. I met him on a number of occassions - on Countdown and about town - I even worked for him years ago. Shit! Why are they all disappearing on us?

@@liveitup67 Tell me about it! I used to see Jimmy & The Boys a lot in 1979/80 and I also got to know Iggy Jones. He taught me how to drink particular types of alcoholic beverages and I was only 17. Really funny guy, and a big success in the events field. I wouldn't think he'd go at 67, but there you go...

@@kaitlynbatt_ I met him when they performed on Countdown (ep. co-hosted by Elton John). He scribbled some autographs for us and muttered ''Make me a star you Countdown army''. We didn't! Ha, ha. It took ''They Won't Let Me Girlfriend Talk To Me'' for us to dial our favourite DJ's and have them play the record. Years later I did some contract work for his company as an interior designer and we had a few yarns about the Countdown days. And I also saw him on and off over the years. Bloody hell! I'm still sad about this.

Sad to her that news about Ignatious Jones .. The J&TB version of "I'm Not Like Everybody Else" was one of my favourite post-punk / new wave era songs ! .. Bought both their studio albums .. Never saw them live, but I reckon it would have been a great experience, particularly in their early days.

Another good tune off of this album is Good Times. The Video features footage from the Gurus' U.S. tour supporting The Bangles in 1986. I saw them on that tour for the first time in a gymnasium in Lancaster, PA. I got hit by the sweat flying off of Debi Pederson's drumstick that evening. I've the Gurus four more times since then, and it's always a good show.

This is a good song, but massively overplayed (like "Live it Up" by Mental As Anything) and was used as a promo here in Sydney for the Rugby League (not Union) as "That's my Team" The National Rugby League (NRL) used it from 2003-2007 on the recommendation of my team's then assistant coach (Parramatta Eels assistant coach Alan Wilson)

Yeah, not a bad tune. Not my fave band to be honest, but still worth a listen. I just read of the death of Ignatius Jones, the singer from Jimmy and The Boys. They had a few hits, I'm Not Like Everybody Else and the Tim Finn penned song, They Won't Let My Girlfriend Talk To Me. Great 80's songs.

@@notanotherenigma7759 I used to see them live back in the 70's and early 80's. They were just insane with the burning baby dolls and Iggy's contortions. He also taught me how to drink certain types of alcoholic beverages when I was 17. I agree! We need more contortionism in pop!

@@hanierfamily my second car i ever owned was a five year old ford 1991 xf Falcon panel van it cost me more than i paid for it to get rust removed from under all the window rubbers and repainted and left me on the side of the road many times it was a black hole for money just like my first car a 1981 500sel Mercedes i loved that car it was 17 years old when i brought it and dad said can you afford a new Mercedes? Hell no!. Well then you can't afford an old one he said. What ever dad. 13 months later engine and gearbox rebuild $13.000 $2000 more than i paid for the car FARK DAD WAS RIGHT AGAIN I wish he'd stop doing that. He hasn't don't buy a Subaru he said i did and I've regretted it ever since biggest money pit Ive ever owned and not worth selling because I'd get $5000 if i was lucky and it owes me $22.000😠😡🤬 and I'm not going to the Skids tonight because it won't start alternator is FARKED and it's 240kms each way to Auckland and back i am not happy about it 😠😡🤬

I guess I'm one of the boring few that like early Gurus but not too hot about this one. Just too pub and football association for my liking. Anyway, if you react to anybody dead this week, you might want to do a tribute to Ignatius Jones. He sang is a band called Jimmy & The Boys. They had a song called ''They Won't Let My Girlfriend See Me'' which I think Split Enz covered or originally done(?) and they had another song called ''I'm Not Like Everybody Else''. They were scary to see live because half the audience wanted to kill them for Ignatius's antics and for having a transgender member. Crazy band but a fun night out. RIP Ignatius Jones (more enjoyable in 1979 than Iggy Pop).
