I was born in East St. Louis in 1957 and lived in Cahokia for a pretty good while (even in the early 1980s.I must have been the last white boy born in East St. Louis.My whole family was from there - not far from State Street (N. 82nd St.).

It was a HORRIBLE neighborhood, full of violent, stupid people. When I bought my house in 1991 I paid $32,000. I sold it for $12,000 and was LUCKY because the going rate for these cute, sturdy little bungalows was $8,000. Poor neighborhood. I feel sorry for the few good people that are stuck there among the abusive shitheads.

my step dad's side of the family lives in St Louis and my brothers and I would visit our cousins every summer. I HATED GOING THERE. The place is just terrible. We were kids and grown people would just want to fight you for no reason. You just have that 30% of people that are nothing but trouble and the fuck up everything.
