It’s still fairly gentle considering it hasn’t full force kicked his nuts. Horses can easily get you hospitalized for life lol

I like that you use that drill-sander. It's very effective at cleaning up the outside of the hoof wall. It's also very satisfying :)

It can also be terrifying at times lol, I've watched one explode twice on the same horse. Spooked the poor horse bad both times

Notice how he has to hold the horse's leg at first. Then the horse seem to sort of realize what is going on and just holds the leg in place. Wonderful chemistry with the care taker there.

Horses have to get their hooves trimmed every 6 weeks I believe, so one would assume it's gotten used to it.

I'm a welder by trade. My farrier told me once that a farrier is a welder with his brains kicked out lol I have always wanted to go to the school in Oklahoma but I'm too old and don't have time away from work for it. Great job.

Watching these great videos , makes me think that shoding has been done for a VERY long time the same way. Decades, if not centuries now. I see artistry when I watch this/these videos..I am from a very old farming area in the Tennessee/the South. I still occasionally find the odd horse shoe that managed to get “thrown off” decades, if not centuries, ago, and they look pretty much the same as today’s, usually just more worn. I don’t think much has changed between then and now with regards to the artistry of what a farrier does. Farriers are so important to the wellbeing of horses, ponies, mules, and maybe even the occasional compliant donkey helping to keep a herd of cattle safe.

Another good lookin foot! I think that you're the only farrier that I've ever seen use a rubber/plastic tipped soft-blow hammer to clip the nails. I guess that's a little less shock to the horse, as well as you. 🐎👍🇺🇸

Not enough before blood comes out of the sole unless the farrier can justify it.

Most of the Farriers go to Farrier school to get taught the trade.

From a curious mind: I feel like this hoof is a lot longer than most other hooves I see being shod. Do you leave length on these because they are strong and aren’t cracked or because of the type of work the horse does?

It’s usually what is needed to give the hoof and pastern the correct angle. Of course if you trim a hoof too short you’re going to have a tender-footed and lame horse
