I appreciate the information/tips/feedback on this finder. I purchased a 16ft Bass boat and this unit came with the boat. I havent messed with it a whole lot but I do wish they gave an option to choose the color on the front for your 3 options in the top left. I mean you literally cant see them unless you change the screen. Hopefully with some of the tips you gave I'll be able to customize it for myself a little better. At least I'm not out any money on this unit and can upgrade if need be. Thanks!

Thanks. This is the best most straight forward info I've found anywhere. I've had loads of problems with my unit while on the water and Lowrance seems of rather limited assistance to say the least. Why they don't automatically release a step by step "how to" video like this on their web site with each new model as it comes out is beyond me. From what I'm reading there are lots of folks having similar problems to mine. I'll use your video to try to finally figure my unit out. Thanks again.

I'm charging the battery right now, and tomorrow I should get a chance to boot it up, pull the transducer plug out and reinstall it being sure it's all the way in, and then see what happens. I will for sure take you up on helping me trouble shoot this. Thanks. I just got back from a yearly fly fishing trip to Montana and I was looking forward to the unit being a part of that, but I could never get it into the basic mode of just showing the temp, the depth, and fish. No matter what I tried it just never responded. Really discouraging.

Just remember that the x series doesnt do any kind or mapping. Even with a mapping card.

The trails leave a line on the blank gps screen of everywhere u go. I do have a full Hook2 training course that covers everything you could ever need to know on udemy.com. I have a link to it in the video description.

Can you do a tutorial for the hook. 5x sonar chirp downs can sounder fish tinder xdcr. I have trouble showing fish arches or lines. I use it mostly in Auto settings. I fish fresh water makes and the deepest are about 25 to 30 feet deep. I fish mostly in depths 12 feet or less.

No the X series displays cannot accept mapping cards.

thanks! really helpful, question, how do I get my depth number to go back to "0" at top right of screen ....mine is at "7" at shallowest , can' figure out how to get back to "0" HELP! thanks

I would first maybe try holding the up arrow button or press the "-" button a couple of times to see if it will zero back out. If all else fails, you should be able to go into your system settings and do the restore defaults option. That should put it back at 0 but will also reset all of your settings as well.

Great video! It explains a lot for me. I have the 7x splitshot. I struggled a lot with this unit. I could not understand how i could install my 2pages on one screen. But it just does not exist. A splitshot that has no splitscreen. The box that its in shows you the split screens. I feel i have been had. A other matter is why can I not see my shad (7-12cm) on the screen in a waterdepht of 3 meter?? In auto and i ajusted the signals and customs. But still i do not see it. Had shad on 16cm. No luck on both screens.

Checked the box and the 2screens are not on 1 screen. Sorry about that. But a splitshot is a name that i thought that it was 2 screens on 1 screen. But i still have the question why dont i see my shad on the screen swimming above the ground?

I can see how that would be misleading. The original packaging on those displays had the wrong print on it and it did show it doing a splitscreen on the outside of the box. If you didn't get it too long ago, you can call Navico and they will let you trade it on for the tripleshot for the difference in price. I think it's $100. The 7x tripleshot will give you splitscreens as well as aide imaging. Tho the tripleshot transducer doesn't fit on a trolling motor very well if thats where u have ur xdcr mounted.

The term splitahot refers to the fact that it can do both 2d sonar and down imaging from one transducer.

Tho I'm not really sure why you arnt seeing the shad. The bait clouds should be showing up. Can you see them in deeper water? Also the tripleshot seems to have better resolution on its sonar imaging as well. Might be what you need to see the small shad.

I found out why i could not see the shad. I fish with a bellyboat. First mistake was that the transducer was pointing to the back of my bellyboat. Second the transducer was placed next to me. Because i fish in 3meters,4 meters max. The cone of the sonar is small so the shad on the bottom is not in the cone of the signal. So if i fish right under the boat i see the shad. So i am goiing to have to position the transducer more in front off me. Thirth mistake was the install of the sensetivety was on 80 and that was to high. It has to be on 40-45, it depends on the depth. I have more distorchen but i see the shad. Thanks for the help!

Unfortunately no. The 5x and 4x displays cannot do splitscreens.

Mine is out of demo and simulator mode but always will reset back to 5 feet even when I'm in 20 foot of water

You most likely have the demo mode turned on. That will cause it to keep switching screens every 20-30 seconds or so.

Can I work on my depth finder (4xhdi) with the motor off? will it turn on so that I can set my controls at home before I get into the water?

Ya you should be able to. Just depends on how you have it wired. Most boats have the ability to pull a power source even with the motor off. You can also connect strait to the battery if u want. Just make sure to use a 3 amp fuse.

I have the hook2 7x HDI Is there anyway I can spilt the green? Also to change the fish symbol. Right now it’s set at -“a actual fish I wanted to change it to a different symbol

That unit unfortunately does not do the split screens. You would need the hook2 7x tripleshot at the very least to get split screens. And what other kind of symbol?

So if I am fishing in a depth of 40m i will see fishes with numbers from 1 to 40 if there are? Which is the max depth that hook2 4x is quite reliable?

Oh which ever screen u are on, you should simply be able to press the Enter button to bring up the save waypoint screen.

I just used my hook 4x for the first time yesterday, and it kept switching between the 3 different modes (sonar, GPS and the circular display). It would not stay on sonar mode long enough to display the readings before automatically changing to a new display. Do you have any idea how to turn this off and keep it on only one display at a time?

Ya it sounds like your demo mode is on. You should be able to press your power button, then select menu, then go to simulator and turn off demo or simulator mode. Which ever is turned on.

You should be able to go to the Range setting and set it to auto when on your sonar screen.

I do have one question though. I got my Hook2 a couple of months ago and one thing I have noticed that on my depth finder is that it shows what looks like a double echo. Most lakes around my house that I fish at I know the depth and that is why I had to play with the depth numbers in the settings mode. The depth finder shows an awesome picture of the bottom of the lake. Am I doing something wrong to get this double echo or is this typical for the Hook2. Now I figured the in sonar mode the unit would show the contour of the bottom but at the bottom of the screen it looks like it shows the bottom again. I do hope I’m not confusing you with this explanation. Your help and input are very much appreciated.

Bass Pro sold me the Lowrance Hook 2 TS9 in October 2019 when I purchased a 24' Fishing Barge. They never mentioned the Hook Reveal Line. What are the differences between the two products? I just discovered a tutorial on Hook 2 for overlaying the sonar with fish ID activated which seems to do the same as the Reveal series, is this true?

There arnt a ton of difference between the 2 but there are a few. The reveal does have a clearer image on the sonar. Higher resolution screen. The Reveal does the genesis live mapping which records reql time mapping with your sonar. And it also of course does the fish reveal feature of overlaying the sonar onto of your downscan screen. If I remember correctly, the Hook2 does the downscan overlay which puts the downscan image on top of your sonar instead of the other way around.

@@nightanddaymarine8823 Thanks for the reply. Yes I was able to overlay the sonar fish ID to Down Imaging. Are there settings for traveling at higher speeds for the water depth? I have a tritoon with the transducer mounted on the rear of the boat and lose all readings when on plane.

If you just want everything completely in auto, you don't need to do anything with it. Simply press the power button to turn it on and thats it. Everything will be auto mode as a default.

Hello, I have a HOOK2 4x. I noticed today with this new unit that while I was anchored that a constant stream of fish symbols showed up and moving under the boat, this went on for several hours each time I moved and re anchored almost as if I had it in simulation mode. This can’t be normal. Is there something I’m missing. Please help, thanks Art!

No thats normal. If you have your fish I'd turned on and you are sitting still, and if there is a fish or object in the wTer suspended underneath you, the unit with continue to repeat the same image over and over which will cause it to continue a stream of fish symbols continuously until either you move or the fish moves. If you turn off the Fish ID, it will remove the line of fish symbols, and instead it will draw a multi colored line on the screen. Same as if you drop a large enough jig in the water strait below you.

Should be able to press your power button, then select Settings, then arrow down to the bottom where it should give the simulator menu option.

Recently bought a used boat with this unit already installed. Took it out to test on the water. Push the power button the start screen flashes on and I see "hook2" on the screen really quick, then unit shuts off. Anyone know why? The internet says my screen is too dark, but thats not it, the unit will not stay powered on, like, at all.

Well if pressing the power button doesn't help after it goes dark then u would check the voltage on the plug. Make sure it has at least 12v, I would also check where it's connected at for power wherever on the boat. Make sure it doesn't have a corroded fuse in line with it.

@@oisongusa9662 turn the display off. Then press and hold the Pages button. While holding it, then press and release the power button to turn it on. Continue to hold the Pages button till you hear it make a double chirp sound and then release.

Lowrance didn't do any favors adding the GPS without map capability. I have a Hook2 5 that came with my new tracker and it hasn't worked properly. I have had to use my old humminbird helix 5 and have just ordered a new humminbird helix 9 to replace this unit. I wanted to like the unit and possibly go to lowrance but this unit convinced me otherwise.

Did you have the 5 or 5x? And I can understand where your coming from. If it's been less than a year, I would call Lowrance and ask to speak to a senior agent. They can get you either a new unit or a new transducer. Their have been some issues with them but once you get it to work, their really actually pretty good unit. And of course the Helix doesnt do side imaging like the Hook 2 does if you have the triple shot. I just recorded a structure scan and sonar video for the Hook2 combo and recorded some really awesome clarity.

And I feel they did a service by adding in the GPS because they do make mapping version of it, but some people dont need maps and shouldnt have to pay for a unit that does. And for those people, Lowrance gave them the ability to have a speedometer and basic tracking abilities without charging for those extra capabilities.

Night and Day Marine Thanks for the quick reply. Excellent video showing the settings that are hard to find information on. Look forward to seeing future videos. It is the Hook2 5x. If I hadn’t had such an excellent experience with Humminbirds, I would pursue getting this one to work. As I mentioned, I really wanted to like this one and if the experience were different I would have considered Lowrance when I upgraded. Alas that wasn’t the case.

This is a terrible product for bottom fishing. Very hard to stay on a waypoint it lags when you get close and you basically run over your waypoint 1,000,000 times until you decide to give up

Hi, I bought the hook2 x5hdi unit. I love Lowrance normally, but this unit is junk. It is plugged in all the way and no matter how you set the sensitivity it does not want to read the bottom. There is another video on KZfaq that a guy shows his does what mine is doing. I think they will regret putting this unit out because it's just poor quality on my big boat I have the hds12 touch screen. I love this unit and would not trade it for anything but if you have a small boat don't buy this unit. You will probably not be happy. Spend the money! This unit is horrible.
