That’s what I do about every 20 acres. I take care not to overgrease as well as that can do just as much harm. A lot fewer grease points on a 488 than a 479. The reel only has 2 zerks.

I think it was plugging under the wobble box because my springs were so loose. How do you set your height if you don’t use skid shoes?

@@TheScientistHayFarmer I dont adjust the height. I leave it on the ground. Its much more important for the floatation of the head then anything else... to prevent any damage to the sickle. With the head all the way down it still cuts at 2 inches. However many farmers dont trap gophers ( if they have them ) Thats where issues start. And pick up the rocks ! If it takes more then about 40 pounds to lift the head up ( in the center of the header)....its too heavy. The skids / shoes weigh that much alone. Try....... tighten the springs totally..... if the header keeps bouncing off the ground its too adjusted to light. The side with out the gear box will need to be lighter. Maybe around six inches from the end of the adjustment. You can see if its too lightly adjusted. Sometimes .... on the side of the gear box ( wabble arm ) .......there isnt enough treading on the re-rods to make it light enough. Thats a problem.

I move the belt back and forth to see how much play the wobble box has. Mine has none. The machine has very low acres on it…almost new. I do not know how far the wobble box will go with a little play, or how much a “little” is. I think you have the right idea in rebuilding it before it gets worse though.

The carrier bearings, those that support the three shafts, usually aren't the issue. Its the bearing in the center of the wobble eccentric that is the costly one. If you can wiggle the pitman and the pulley does not move, more than likely that bearing is going bad. Best to fix it before it gets worse or it can get very expensive. I haven't seen the breakdown on the NH eccentrics, but the John Deere one uses roller bearings. The HN may use bushings, or may use rollers. One other thing to check, make sure the pulley is tight on the shaft, that can cause some play too. The wobble box is a rather cool item, the input shaft rotates in a circle, and connects to a fork that rides an eccentric which moves the bottom shaft back and forth.

What do you mean by “yoke release in order to connect?” The hoses go to the SCVs on your tractor. Exactly where they go will depend on how the SCVs are laid out on your tractor, but it doesn’t really matter. One hose extends the cylinder and the other hose retracts it. It’s all a matter of if you want to push your lever forward to make it lift or drop. If you don’t like it, switch the hoses around in your SCVs.

No, one hose will send pressure to lift it, the other will send pressure to drop it. It entirely depends on which way you want to move your remote lever to make it raise or lower. I like to move my remote lever forward to raise and back to drop, so I plug them in that way.

@@rickmaldonado418 That is a deceivingly small tractor for the amount of power it has. A haybine like this only requires 25 PTO hp to operate so you have more than enough. My 4610 runs it effortlessly. You can actually turn the entire haybine just by turning the PTO by hand. If the knife is set up correctly so there's no binding, the entire thing should be very easy running.
