The stuntman falling was A.J. Bakunas. This was a record distance stunt fall at the time. After the record was broken shortly after, Bakunas attempted to regain it. He tragically died from his attempt, in front of about 1000 people including his father. RIP Dude.

I think I had read that at the time this was shot this was a world record free fall jump. Still a great movie. I bought the bluray when it came out.
