It's crazy looking back on this and how Franz has worked so hard to turn his weaknesses into his strengths and raised his ceiling. This is such a good scouting report because he was right on the nose about his finishing in college and how his ceiling would raise tremendously if he improved on it, in which he did by a longshot as he's now one of the best finishers in the NBA. He hit on all of the swing factors that were mentioned and is arguably the best player in his draft class. This should be how every scouting report should be because it actually focuses on how and why a player can improve on their weaknesses.

There used to be this channel called draftexpress years ago and they would put out these phenomenal scouting reports for each player, breaking down their strengths and weaknesses. Then they stopped and it hasn’t been as easy to follow the draft since. I still love to follow the draft but those videos had me knowing everything about every single player. Anyway, thank you for putting these videos out. they’re great videos and it makes following the draft even more fun. Been looking for a channel like this since draftexpress stopped doing videos like these

Yup same here. Draftexpress was my go-to for draft vids and info. Now it's behind the ESPN paywall. Big thanks to Hoop Intellect for the draft vids.

The best thing about Draftexpress was the combine measurements. One wonders why that was discontinued. One can only suppose that the powers that be don't want us to know the actual height and actual verticality of players. Presumably, because they want to hype them up.

One site I seen that Wagner's wingspan is 6 ft 11. This is my favorite scouting channel. I hope you do scouting on Corey Kispert next

One thing to remember with Wagner is he broke his wrist his freshman year and seemed to reinjure it at the end of last season. Once it was hurt he couldn't hit anything. He didn't even try to shoot when wide open in the tournament against UCLA because it seemed to be bugging him a ton. If Livers was healthy I bet he would have sat a lot more to try and protect that wrist but Michigan was already down an elite wing.

I see a lot of Kyle Anderson in him. Maybe some Nic Batum too. I think an Andrei Kirilenko ceiling is possible, but more likely he ends up as a Kyle Anderson type role player imo

Yeah he’s not explosive, but he’s smooth and agile, those were two very good comps. I hope teams don’t try to small ball 5 hi, he’s a 3&D wing defender who can switch onto guards. Franz needs to work on his body though, doesn’t look NBA ready and Michigan has nicer facilities than some pro teams have so work ethic is a question for me, he faded away and you almost forgot he was playing at times during his time at Michigan.

thanks for your comp takes. i’m a magic fan and couldn’t figure out a comp for him. I’ll take Kyle Anderson or AK47 anyday. I just wish he showed more 3pt shooting but i hope that comes in time (lord knows that’s what we need!).

Definitely see him as a sf/pf long term, with huge potential. Future all star? Quite possible. Needs to work on dribbling and off hand scoring. Sick layup and finger roll though. But he’s got everything you want in today’s NBA from a forward. Best non-obvious pick by Orlando since Mo Bamba, who is so underrated and is being held back behind WCJ. Free Bamba!

I want the Orlando Magic to get a top two pick in this draft, and then draft either Cade or Green, then if they land the Bulls pick around 8-10 range, I want them to take either Moody (unless they get Green) or take Franz Wagner, Franz Wagner is a better defender than Mo. This draft to me is deep and if I have a lottery pick, I'm not trading out of it.

Moody might be good. But you dont pass up someone like Keon johnson or josh giddey for Wagner if you have the 8th to 10th pick, No way

The Magic got screwed in the lotto, but still managed to get a top 4 player in Suggs (thanks Raptors 😆), and a good all round player who will probably play well with Suggs in Wagner.

Reminds me of Kyle Anderson. Your fits for him are perfect. I think his weaknesses are fixable and he’ll be a good player. His shooting blows my mind, watch a lot of Michigan and a lot of his 3s were in and out it became a joke.

I am a Michigan fan...I hope he does well but sometimes I think he relies too much on letting the other guy get a step on him and then trying to block the shot. His foot speed is concerning at the next level

This guy will be an allstar one day! He has a great understanding of the game. High IQ. Just outsmarts other players. If he is not an allstar, he will be a staple role player for any team!

What's puzzling? He's the exact kind of role player every team wants: a switchable 6'9" wing who actually plays defense, projects as an above average shooter and can run secondary actions in a multi-ball handler offense. Cam Johnson went 11 and Wagner is Cam Johnson with passing.

@@lakeshoresubtleties He's not 6'9" 220? He didn't shoot 83% on free throws and 34% on threes? He'll forget how to make rotations? He didn't show the ability to defend both the screener and ball in pick and roll? Cam Johnson wasn't a lottery pick? I feel like at least some of that is accurate, no?

I can see him playing with Keldon in high octane offense.. But I really like Josh Giddey as well.. It would be great to get them both and send Lonnie Walker/Jakob for the 14th pick to GSW..

@@Mario-nl3jo they're both scrubs and were both projected, and taken, before the 12th & 14th picks, anyway. Then they reached for Primo, who was projected late 20s/early 30s, which is almost just as questionable to reach like that, but he's the youngest player in the draft and they must see some tools or iq they think will make him great.

Im a huge Michigan fan and grew up right down the road from Ann arbor. But ive just seen too many Michigan players get hyped up for the draft and do nothing in the league. I think hes a late first rounder.

Not quite...I like how it turned out better. Here's a possible depth chart that's got tons of positional overlap because of the Magic's love of versatile players who can play multiple positions. PG: Fultz / Suggs / Cole Anthony / RJ Hampton / Michael Carter-Williams SG: Suggs / RJ Hampton / T Ross / Gary Harris / Bacon / MCW SF: Franz Wagner / Chuma Okeke / T Ross / James Ennis / MCW / RJ Hampton PF: Jonathan Isaac / Otto Porter Jr / Mo Wagner C: Wendell Carter Jr / Mo Bamba I left a few guys off...and some of these guys will get traded or released because the Magic have way too many PG's and wing players. I like the core though...very young but lots of potential.

Some people have him top 10 in mock drafts which I find crazy. He’s a late lottery pick or even top 15-23 I’d say. I feel like he’s a little too overrated.

Why? They already have two premier forwards who can ball handle and make plays, for themselves and others. Plus Naji Marshall, who is all of that and a good defender. They needed shooting, defense, and length. They got it in Tre Murphy III by staying put. They probably got a major steal, even after his draft stock rose so much. Lottery talent. Wagner is not.

@@mcgb7490 We don’t need to draft role players in the lottery, this guy has Joe Ingles ceiling once he gets a consistent jumper. We need to find hidden gems in the late lottery like DBook, Mitchell, Bam, Giannis. 2021 draft class is deeper than their draft classes. Why settle for a role player when you can find star talent in this deep draft class. The top 6 pick will be a superstar, we need another guy that has potential @14.
