I believe Hackman refused to come in and do the final voice over work because he thought the movie was going to suck. He got sent a rough copy and was in disbelief of how good it was. He then went in and did the final voice over work.

@doogboh 3 жыл бұрын
Correct. Similarly, Anspaugh, Angelo Pizzo, and producer Carter de Haven screened the film for Jerry Goldsmith, who had very low expectations. At the end of the screening, Goldsmith was so still that the other three men thought he had fallen asleep. He turned around, his eyes filled with tears, and said to his friend de Haven, "You son of a bitch, you knew I'd fall for this movie." Jerry's asking price to score a movie was well outside of the HOOSIERS budget, but after his screening, he told the filmmakers that he'd score the picture for whatever they could afford to pay him. He got an Oscar nomination for the music -- and should have won!

Apparently, Gene learned something from the experience because he willingly did the final voiceover for a real POS movie, The Replacements.

I guess I'm bragging, but my team really stood out - a very happy, focussed and productive team and almost no turnover. One of my colleagues finally asked me...man, how do you do it (cause there was a lot of infighting and disharmony in the other teams). I told him - watch Hoosiers. 95% of who I am as a manager I learned from Norman Dale.

It kind of makes sense. If someone described the movie to you -- or if you read the screenplay -- you'd probably conclude that it's formulaic, predictable and hokey. And it is all those things. But it works anyway because all of the pieces fit -- the performances, the pacing, the music etc. The whole is so much greater than the sum of the parts. That's the magic of cinema.

It was because it was thought that international audiences would not recognize the Hoosiers nickname as referring to Indiana.

@@rmsmith2396 -didn't say It was not a sports movie - It Is a comedy rather than a dramatic movie - I consider Hoosiers to be the best dramatic sports movie I've seen with Eight Men Out a close second. Now , In sports comedy movies I go with Major League my personal favorite with Caddyshack a close second ( Jmho)
