Hope for a Cure: Treating Sickle Cell Disease with CRISPR

UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland has one of the premiere centers in the nation for Sickle Cell treatment and has been at the forefront of advancing the research for better treatments and a cure for over 45 years. A sickle cell-CRISPR gene therapy clinical trial - a partnership with UCSF, UCLA and UC Berkeley - will be the first human trial using CRISPR gene editing technology to replace mutated blood cells with edited cells - a potential cure for sickle cell.

I feel your pains because I have full blown sickle cell disease as I write the message on the 1st of July, im just coming back from the hospital and let me tell u this the painful crisis is real , this pain is suicidal I can't explain how I feel right now on a daily basis.....I pray to God to inspire someone to find the cure soon

I agree. The pain can be absolutely soul destroying. This is the part no one seems to address. Such a strange disease that can cause unfathomable amounts of physical pain and mental distress. It’s essential that we find a cure for all those affected.

My prayers go to all you battling this illness. My wife has sickle cell anemia and the bad days she has breaks my heart. I really hope this treatment is soon available to all of those battling this painful illness.

Bro I pray for you I lost my first wife to sickle cell years ago.she stopped caring about her health the battle wa adjust to much for her.be there for you wife be here strength hopefully this nasty disease can be beaten and I hope from the bottom of my heart that your wife is a survivor I’m sure she will beat this

It's painful I'm 14 but this crisis makes me feel so much different from others. And when I say I'm in pain people don't understand. I would never wish this pain upon anyone but it's like they should feel it eve if just for 5sec. In Uganda

I have read that those of the brown community may know not that O- blood donor's our able to give blood for anyone in the world (universal donor which I am.) I know blood donations are not a cure but, O- blood donor's are good if their blood type is not available.
