I posted this song on the other day as a tribute to my father, who passed a year ago. I got my love of Jazz music from him.

Horace Silver remains one of the giants and geniuses of the jazz forever. Song For My Father remains one of the masterpieces not only of jazz but of ETERNAL MUSIC.

I remember purchasing my vinyl copy of this masterpiece sometime during my college years in the 60’s in downtown Boston. It has always stayed with me.

This was not at Montreux, this was at Montreal 1996. Théâtre Maisonneuve, Montreal, QC. Mr Silver never appeared in Montreux. Still the best of his performances we ever seen!

Bien sur c'était à Montreux, on le voit sur l'affichage au fond de la scène. Ce n'était pas en 1996 car le premier Montreux Jazz Festival débutait en 1967. J'y avais joué le premier jour en quartet.

His right hand piano technique is unusual. Very little use of the 4th and 5th finger. Mostly using the elbow and wrist for articulation, instead of the fingers.

Joe Henderson with a pinch of Pharaoh Sanders I suppose. Maybe a tad of Junior Cook as well. And a lot of originality as well.
